"in Senator's history"? No! There are many others before this: Spezza, Karlsson, Hossa, Alfredsson, Chara, etc.Right behind Tkachuk and Chabot deals IMO.
I think he was pretty kind to us here on both price and term. 5+ likely would have been available on the open market and probably could squeeze another year, maybe two. 5x$5mil is about what I thought we'd have to do if we kept him, so this is an excellent surprise.LOL @ everyone who thought he would get over $5m
Gudbranson got 4x4 and Ristolainen got 5.1x5, GMs have been paying wild prices for RHD so it was a reasonable assumption given Zub is better than both of those guys.LOL @ everyone who thought he would get over $5m
Perhaps I'm miss-remembering, but I distinctly recall people suggesting he could get 5 mil and that the only reason Wpg were able to sign him for 3 was because the pandemic completely messed up contracts that year.people said Demelo would get 5m?
5 would be high. The search is not good. ThanksPerhaps I'm miss-remembering, but I distinctly recall people suggesting he could get 5 mil and that the only reason Wpg were able to sign him for 3 was because the pandemic completely messed up contracts that year.
I tried to do a search, but the search function keeps coming up with errors, all I was able to find was a sens fan on the mains saying he wanted to the sens to get him at 4x3yrs
LOL @ everyone who thought he would get over $5m
Chára signed 1 2 year contract with the Sens, Hossa was traded right after signing. Karlsson, Spezza and Heatley were all important signings but the difference is the state of the franchise when they signed but none were pending UFAs."in Senator's history"? No! You have an insider contact so that makes you a reliable source of useful info for us.Ehhh, I can’t take much of the credit.
I wouldn’t have asked if it wasn’t brought up in the pre-game.
Not exactly a scoop, but I was told it was 99% done when I asked. Like basically just waiting on paperwork, which Zub was not available to complete until after the game.

The phrase used by the poster was "one of the most important signings in Senator's history"; not UFA nor pending UFA signings.Chára signed 1 2 year contract with the Sens, Hossa was traded right after signing. It really says alot about how great the dressing room is, and how players feel about the team's future under Dorion. Everyone seems to be signing at discounts right now!I am not sure this has ever been confusing. If I am Zub or his agent I would have done the exact same thing. If you believe in your abilities why not get to UFA as quickly as possible. I don't blame Dorion or the Sens management at all as I am sure Zub's camp made it clear buying UFA years would cost a considerable amount.
Yep. $4.6m is actually a very fair deal for both sides. He's 27 years old, he's not someone you should expect big leaps forward from. He's certainly not going to be better than Chabot or Sanderson, and we've been rumoured to be wanting to add guys that could push him down the depth chart.
We're aweful without him because we have no depth on the right side, that's less about Zub and more about the alternative options
He got 4.6 for a reason, he and the team are realistic about who and what he is.
In all honesty, this is all reminiscent of people saying DeMelo would get 5 mil, Zub is better than DeMelo but the same over rating is going on here imo. There are a number of teams on which he'd be a 4th Dman on. That's not slight, the gap between 3 and 4 can be negligible, unfortunately on our team it's the grand freaking canyon
No it doesn’t.Does this feel like one of the most important signings in Senators history to anyone else?
One of my friends has always been a bit of a pessimist. At one point I suggested that he join a pessimists club. He replied "Nah, they probably wouldn't take me".easier to expect the worst and hope for the best
Does this feel like one of the most important signings in Senators history to anyone else?
really low bar we have for our GM hereYou know, I'm starting to wonder if Dorion really is as incompetent as some of you keep saying. What a great deal for the team and an important piece of the puzzle locked up during, what should be, our competitive cycle.
Pivotal signing. Adds clarity moving forward and sets us up really nicely to continue to improve the roster.
He easily gets 5+ in free agency. Acting like you are a genius here and not recognizing that the term is shorter and they got him to sign when he is vulnerable is why its such a team friendly contract.LOL @ everyone who thought he would get over $5m
