Zub probably falls in here. There were some outliers like Gudbranson but 4 years deals in the 4s seems to be consistent with a more defensive guy. Adam Larsson is a good comparison

Most defensmen that have signed that are similar to Zub don't get above 5

He absolutely does not fall in there, let us not kid ourselves, brother. He's better than every single one without question (barring Jonas breakout).

He's in the company of Larsson and co.

5 of our 10 best players missing time to injury means nothing? Who the f*** are we to overcome that and thrive? We were hoping to be a bubble team/low seed playoff team, if everything went well. Our current top 2 centers are a rookie and a guy on his way out of the league but sure the GM is incompetent because our injury situation finds us near the bottom end of the standings. Excellent analysis, I'm sure TSN are drafting your contract as we speak.

He's not overrated in the slightest. He is incredibly unique actual good shut down D men especially on the right side are few and far between. I find you have underrated him as a player his entire tenure. Its very hard to find a player like him there was only one in free agency last year and that was Manson. You literally couldnt think of one earlier this year when I asked you. 22 minutes a game thats what he plays, his dollars per minute are the best on the team. The team took advantage of a situation and he signed for shorter term than I think anyone hoped. Its still a good deal for the team though.

Dorions a gonner sorry man.
Some people certainly over rate him, just take a look at the poll asking if you'd pay Zub 6.7, there were people arguing that we should, that's madness.

How friggin g crazy is it that we've been so bad at acquiring d that your arguing a good defensive D is incredibly unique... The reality is other defensive D don't play 22 mins a night becauseost tes don't have the lack of depth we have. Chabot hasn't averaged the most icetime per game in the league over the last 4 seasons because he's uniquely great, he's done it because we lack depth. On a good team he averages far less icetime, same applies to Zub,

I don't think this post helps your point. Only Norris and Zub have missed significant time.

Stuztle and Chabot not so much. We should be able to overcome or atleast hold on.

This is why a poor start should have been unacceptable. We bled way too many points and there is no margin for error now.

Can't always come up with an excuse for poor starts. Last year it was covid

Right now we're missing Norris, Zub, Stutzle and Joseph. Also not listed is Formenton. Take the 4 worst forwards and worst dman on the team and swap these 5 in, do we get better results or the same?

In terms of injuries were around the 10th most impacted teams

This site does a good job of looking at the impact in multiple ways

Right now as in for the last week? Also we can't count Formenton as he is not injured

What about the time where we bled points when we had Stuztle?

nice site. It looks like our biggest loss is Norris which makes sense

Ouch to Vegas forgot about Lehner

I have been critical of this management in the past. But I can see that the team is starting to gel without Norris and without Stutzle and Zub missing time.

So I guess my point is that this was a great signing by PD and when everyone gets healthy and back in the lineup we will start crushing teams IMO.

Looks like this smug prick is out of favour with the organization. Why else would they let him hang himself out to dry on last night's broadcast?

Nothing imminent? Good job, Bruce. Looking forward to more embarrassingly bad takes on upcoming broadcasts.

Assen na yo!
Might be the best part of all.

If this team wants to be modern, hip, trendy or whatever you want to call it, then they need to get Booboo the f*** off tv and stop associating him with the team so much.

It really says alot about how great the dressing room is, and how players feel about the team's future under Dorion. Everyone seems to be signing at discounts right now!
Who would you say gave discounts? I haven't seen any of them as discounts other than maybe this one, and I'm more surprised by the term than the AAV. IMO, they've just been accepting the bag early and potentially giving a discount as a side effect, but not a true discount at the time of signing and arguably in some cases, getting paid a little more than they should early on.

Personally, I like the page where they compare game by game, so it takes into account your opponents man games lost to figure out which team had a health advantage each game as well as on the aggregate.

Dorion has done a pretty damn good job of getting a core to commit to ottberia without really having to overpay. Chabot, Batherson, Tkachuk, Norris, Stuetzle, now Zub. Then getting a player of Giroux's stature to commit We're set up pretty well. If only we could get them healthy.

What are @Sweatred thoughts on Dorion getting these guys signed in Ottawa. Curious what the inventor of the term ottberia has to say

Only the really good ones play this much. Hence why he is really good. That's what top 4 d men play.....

We would never know now what Zub would get as a free agent. Sens hit the home run here with term and AAV.

Every team is looking for a right handed top 4 D , especially one that can sun into a top pair. It’s not out of the realm of possibility a desperate GM would have given him 6m over a similar term. Basically the 1.2m diff is the salary of a 4th liner.

I was expecting this to get done in the mid 5s that 1m savings can help with Debrincat now.

The issue is that that isn't the reason we play ours that much, it's incredibly obvious we overplay the top pair because of a lack of depth.

I mean, unless you think Ceci was an awesome defensive Dman his last three years here since he played 23 mins a night? Or Zaitsev was an awesome defensive Dman because he played 22 mins a night his first two seasons here?

5 straight years of us playing our top defensive RHD 22+ mins a night regardless of their ability...

Does this feel like one of the most important signings in Senators history to anyone else?

Losing Zub at this juncture of the rebuild would have been devastating and possibly KO.

Also really happy Zub loves Ottawa and signed to a sweet heart contract. What a beaut.
Only 2.1 million less than your poll question, shocking you got 10% of fans to agree with you though.
