What incredible skill Dorion has displayed with getting worked over in 80% of the trades he made and tearing down a team with all its core players in their prime after an ECF run. 5 straight losing seasons spent in the bottom 5 of the league with a bare prospect pool and 3rd last in the conference. What a tremendous job....

Good riddance.
I feel like our prospect pool is only "bare" because we've done an effective job getting the really good ones into the pro league, and only really busted with Logan Brown. It's almost what successful prospect development looks like.

When I think of a bare prospect pool though, I think of what we had in 2010 with Jim O'Brien as our top prospect, and Joshua Hennessy as 4th or something; this being the year Karlsson graduated of course. I like Sokolov, Greig, Crookshank, and even Lodin as better forward prospects than JOB. I think JBD is going to be top 4D for us as well.

OT I know... but this thread is going in that direction now though haha.

So we light the torches, grab the pitchforks, and go after PD when a player chooses not to sign, but then are all like “so what, he did he job” when beloved players choose to sign.

There is a reason why no one cares what fans say or think, we pretty much display lunacy at every opportunity possible! Hahah

Dorion has done a pretty damn good job of getting a core to commit to ottberia without really having to overpay. Chabot, Batherson, Tkachuk, Norris, Stuetzle, now Zub. Then getting a player of Giroux's stature to commit We're set up pretty well. If only we could get them healthy.

What are @Sweatred thoughts on Dorion getting these guys signed in Ottawa. Curious what the inventor of the term ottberia has to say
I mean “Ottberia” is pretty funny and fitting when you’re from there lol!!

Right now as in for the last week? Also we can't count Formenton as he is not injured

What about the time where we bled points when we had Stuztle?

nice site. It looks like our biggest loss is Norris which makes sense

Ouch to Vegas forgot about Lehner
Yes, in the last week, where we lost games to Minnesota and Winnipeg, giving up 9 goals and scoring 3. And Formenton was a big part of this team last year, doesn't matter if he's injured or not, his absence makes a huge difference, especially when he's replaced in the lineup by Chartier and co.

All signs pointed to Dorion letting Zub walk so this is great news. Hitting the off-season with 3 top 4 guys signed allows the next GM to mild the top 6 the way he wants.

Pretty much takes Zaitsev’s contract space which means we make savings of 2.4M when Zaitsev is moved.

Now let’s get Chychrun :naughty:

Woah im surprised!

One of the reasons why guys like Zub are hard to find. The big money usually goes to the offensive guys like Karlsson and Chabot or the big bruiser types. The quiet all-around super solid guys who play a simple and physical game tend to get overlooked.

Not starting negotiations during the off season, talking up JBD and Thomson previously, looking to add another top 4 D which doesn’t look possible under next years cap. Doesn’t matter now, he is signed. Good job.

Zub probably falls in here. There were some outliers like Gudbranson but 4 years deals in the 4s seems to be consistent with a more defensive guy. Adam Larsson is a good comparison

Most defensmen that have signed that are similar to Zub don't get above 5
Only one that is similar on that list took a home town discount to play for a repeat Stanley Cup champion on a team pressed against the cap.

Any GM would have got this deal done in these circumstances. Not sure Dorion deserves any credit. This is about Zub. Zub slays. Glad he's going to be around.

As of today he makes 2.5. Next year I doubt he is 64th.
Right now, as of today, Chychrun is the 64th highest paid d at 4.6.

There are a few RFA and UFA that might pass him, and a few that currently makeorr but might sign for less, so he'll probably end up around 70, but the point stands, he's not paid like a low end 4th d.

He's being paid in line with what he is,
