Great deal. Thought there was a good chance he'd get 5.5 mil. We could probably sign Cat for 9 mil now and stay under the cap, Zaitsev will need to be moved though.
Exactly what he should have been signed for, good deal. The notion some had that he would get closer to $6M was ludicrous. Glad he's staying for 4 more years
Zub is realistically a 3/4 Dman, if that's our most important signing in history then this franchise has some real issuesDoes this feel like one of the most important signings in Senators history to anyone else?
Losing Zub at this juncture of the rebuild would have been devastating and possibly KO.
Also really happy Zub loves Ottawa and signed to a sweet heart contract. What a beaut.

Zub is a great option to have around, and clearly there'd be a big hole if we let him walk, but he's not a franchise player, this is more akin to re-signing Methot in 2015.
It's nice to know we have 3 of 4 top 4 D slots filled for next season, if JBD finishes the year strong and proves himself as a top 4 option, or we pick someone else up in the offseason it will be the first time in a long time where the D looks competitiveLove this!!!!!
But man it took a long time to get done lol
Hi contract is pretty much market value in a flat cap era.Does this feel like one of the most important signings in Senators history to anyone else?

Right behind Tkachuk and Chabot deals IMO.Does this feel like one of the most important signings in Senators history to anyone else?

Thanks anywayEhhh, I can’t take much of the credit.
I wouldn’t have asked if it wasn’t brought up in the pre-game.
Not exactly a scoop, but I was told it was 99% done when I asked. Like basically just waiting on paperwork, which Zub was not available to complete until after the game.
So much easier to fill out the top 8 D next year with Chabot, Sanderson and Zub in the fold. It's nice to know we have 3 of 4 top 4 D slots filled for next season, if JBD finishes the year strong and proves himself as a top 4 option, or we pick someone else up in the offseason it will be the first time in a long time where the D looks competitive
He's 27 years old, he's not someone you should expect big leaps forward from. He's certainly not going to be better than Chabot or Sanderson, and we've been rumoured to be wanting to add guys that could push him down the depth chart.Zub is a 3 defenceman who can get even better.
This team is awful without Zub in the lineup. Soft and easy to play against.
With Zub the good players on the other team actually have to go up against a defensively and physically imposing defender. Otherwise it's open season for other stars.
Brannstrom is in a weird spot, he's at his best when he can open up his game and press offensively but he's stuck behind Chabot and Sanderson. We definitely need some extra grit in the backend, especially since JBD isn't particularly physical. So much easier to fill out the top 8 D next year with Chabot, Sanderson and Zub in the fold.
JBD is likely a lock to at least be 3 RD next year unless he is used in a deal. His slotting might become more clear by the end of the season. We definitively need to add a RD but not necessarily top 4.
I’d be tempted to keep Brannstrom around but if we could get a physical 3 LD that might be a better fit.
people said Demelo would get 5m?He's 27 years old, he's not someone you should expect big leaps forward from. He's certainly not going to be better than Chabot or Sanderson, and we've been rumoured to be wanting to add guys that could push him down the depth chart.
We're aweful without him because we have no depth on the right side, that's less about Zub and more about the alternative options
He got 4.6 for a reason, he and the team are realistic about who and what he is.
In all honesty, this is all reminiscent of people saying DeMelo would get 5 mil, Zub is better than DeMelo but the same over rating is going on here imo. There are a number of teams on which he'd be a 4th Dman on. That's not slight, the gap between 3 and 4 can be negligible, unfortunately on our team it's the grand freaking canyon
I think they have been trying to do so for quite a while now; hopefully it can be done with a sweetener by the TDL.He basically got Zaitsev's deal, I wonder if they try & move on from Zaitsev for next season, they should.
Equal to getting another top 4 D to replace Zaitsev or Hamonic.Arguably the most important job PD had left this season - hats off to him. Losing Zub would've torn a hole in the roster that I'm not sure we could've fixed.
Signing Zub does not require genius nor fortune telling expertise. Dorion's record is not good. You know, I'm starting to wonder if Dorion really is as incompetent as some of you keep saying. What a great deal for the team and an important piece of the puzzle locked up during, what should be, our competitive cycle.
Zub is not physically imposing. Chara was! Methot was VG and stronger than Zub.Zub is a 3 defenceman who can get even better.

Critical signing. And Zub is so much better than Methot.
