And they just moved Eberle.

These prices only come as a surprise to fans of teams who haven't done **** in ages thus they use their young RFAs as contract comparables for everything (i.e. anyone over 3 million is overpaid/overrated).

Delusional Edmonton fans were claiming he'd sign for under $10 million because he doesn't want to hurt the team.

He's superstitious, he'll sign for $9,700,000!

Edmonton better draft strong because that's the only way they keep they show going. McDavid, Draisaitl, and Lucic could very likely account for over a third of their cap.

As someone else mentioned in another thread, they also have Sekera ($5.5 million per + NMC) and The Nuge ($6 million per) locked in until 2020/21.

They also just re-upped Russell until 2020/21 at $4 million per.

Could you imagine if the Kings had Lucic and Sekera for the next 6 years at 11.5 million? GROSS! Frightening to think how close we were to that.

My sense is Draisaitl ask on an 8 year deal could push 9m per season. Oilers I'd guess would think 7-8 range based on comps

Crosby is so superstitious that his actual salary doesn't have an 8 or 7 in it.

I have been saying if Edmonton could get both signed for under $20M it would be a huge win. Sounds like they will not.

Oiler fans have to be ecstatic that it was an 8 year deal though. His % of cap sounds like it will be inline with when Crosby signed. So there is room.

Edmonton is going to need to move out RNH sooner than later, those Sekera and Lucic contracts (and NTC's) are going to come back to haunt them

On Sekera yes LA was close to that. If the Richards thing had not dragged out he would be a king with the same contract he has in Edmonton.

Lucic's deal would look nothing like the one he signed in Edmonton. DL tried to re-sign him but the cap hit was a lot less on long term

My guess is if Crosby had to sign an 8 year deal in his prime the superstition would have quickly gone by the wayside.
All I know is that I'm not looking forward to DD and his new contract. Won't be as bad as McDavid but 11m AAV probably isn't out of the question and sadly might be on the low side the way things are going.

Which would have been arguably more disastrous.

For some reason I thought he signed a 5 year deal.

Lucic didn't impress me last year and looked lousy in the playoffs. Oilers will need every penny in the next few years.

Which is why i never liked that trade.... We lost valuable assets in that trade that put us outside the playoffs looking in....

Martin Jones
Colin Miller
2015 1st round pick
Kyle Connor
Mathew Brazal
Jakub Zboril
Thomas Chabot
Evgeny Svechnikov

Damn this trade still hurts!!!!!

We are going to find out if a team with around $22M dedicated to two players can be a contender. That's almost 33% of the team's total cap just for those two.

At least Edmonton gave these types of deals to players who are in their prime, so it may work.

Chia is going to have to work extremely hard to keep 5 to 6 players on the roster who are on ELCs or low cost deals, yet talented enough to round out a championship roster.

I think Edm did things the right way... they look like a future Pitt in terms of locking up their two most important players... But Edm went a step forward and also secured their top 4 defense, although IMO it isn't championship caliber....

although when looking at it positively, the Kings gave Kopi $10 mill and are likely to give DD $12 so thats the two most important players locked up long term plus lucking out with Vilardi and Amadio helps.... Eh, even I can't spin this.... lol
