Tidbits from the twitter universe regarding upcoming NHL FA period..

Nice little graph on Alzner's work in front of his own net. Can't wait to see who overpays for him.

Alzner is getting trashed but he was good up until this last season and a half. Probably could be a cheap reclamation project but someone will overpay to make sure they get him on day 1.

Elliotte Friedmanâ€ÂVerified account @FriedgeHNIC

Pouliot (EDM) on waivers today for a buyout

1.33 x 4 seasons

expected that. Maybe this will wake him up, guy has the tools, just apparently not the motivation.

Pierre McGuire saying he's hearing the Leafs are pursuing Duchene and that the Preds are after Bonino (which they should do, need a better spinal column down the middle)

Aivis Kalniņš†@A_Kalnins

Hearing Dynamo Moscow could lose all its players on July 1st. League leaning towards releasing them as UFA's.

Sounds a bit like Teddy Purcell. :naughty:

Why would the Leafs go after Duchene, allegedly. They have Matthews, Kadri and Nylander down the middle, unless they kick WN to the wing.

Also, gotta pay these kids soon ("Big 3" + guys like Brown, Hyman, maybe Soshnikov if he continues to develop).

Doesn't make sense to me. Did Pierre get that one from Eklund?

Hextall parlayed Schenn into Lehtora and two 1st's. So essentially Mike Richards' for Simmonds, a 2nd, Lehtora, and two 1sts? Wow.

lehtora was a cap dump, and the 2 1sts are likely to be late ones....for a very good second line center that can contribute in any situation.

We're not doing a "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon" thing here, are we?

Did you see Lehtera play this past season? He was rather subpar. Who knows how the picks will turn out. I'm probably wrong but I thought one of the 1st's in the Lethera/Schenn trade had conditions attached to it. I would have to go back and have a peek at that.

I get what your saying with regards to all the assets I'm just not a big of when a trade takes place and then those initial pieces are eventually spun off for other pieces.

Another buyout..

Hextall parlayed Schenn into a 4.7 mil cap albatross for 2 years and two 1st's.

Sometimes I feel like the term "1st rounder" can imply greater upside that there usually is. Nothing against Morgan Frost, but we'll see how he pans out. Not all 27th overall picks are guaranteed NHLers. Having an extra 1st in 2018 is a nice asset, but it's easy to forget that Schenn was a perfectly acceptable 5th overall pick.

And from a St. Louis perspective, they maybe got a gift getting pick 31 (and Sundqvist) for Reeves and pick 51.

Doing some algebra from a Blues' perspective:

Lehtera, #27, protected 2018 first = Schenn
Reeves, #51 = #31, Sundqvist
#27 ~ #31 (don't think anybody would have done a double take had they taken Kostin at 27 instead of 31).

Lehtera, Reeves, #51, protected 2018 1st = Schenn, Sundqvist

That's a decent deal for the Blues.

And the Kings still got the better end of the deal after all that.

His hands are wrecked ,, Is major problem and teams should avoid him IMO on anything that isn't short/cheap deal

He cant even open jars of food anymore because of how badly he has injured his hands

He's not very good at anything, he's not a 2nd line center and only a center when one of the others is hurt and usually that doesn't last, and he can't contribute in most situations. You'll find out just how inept he is when he's got to go up against some very tough forwards in the WC. that -31, would be much higher if not for Mason and Neuvy saving his bacon.
One thing he can do, besides body part PP goals, is elbows to the head, Leap and Lead Schenn (leaps off skates, leads with elbow) which is what he does vs top lines because he cannot defend.
FLyers got Frost with St Louis pick and he's is 2nd line center with a high IQ who will have a couple more years to develop. Even without the other 1st, the Flyers win that trade.

Could be a change will help that, might be the Ovie effect. Speaking of overpayment, some GM will be handing over a lot of $$ and term to Shattenkirk.

They won't, don't know why he said. They also have Bozak and Fehr.
I think they are eyeing a D maybe, but not a center, and only if say they move Bozak and get a cheap vet for the 4 th line, that kind of experience (one whose been the playoff wars) would have helped them (Oilers too).
But it won't be Duchene, hopefully Sakic gets his head out of his butt and does the right thing, for Duchene and the Avs. that crap they put him thru last season (and landy) was terrible and that will affect a team.

Dee, what do you think about Grigorenko getting a shot in another organization, a fresh start for him? He's still young but the knock on him was his attitude and lack of effort. I didn't really watch the Avs much for obvious reasons.

Surely getting out of Colorado will do him good. Depending on cost, I'd consider taking a look. Can't be any worse than some of the pieces in our bottom 6.
