Or when he treats Matt Martin like absolute garbage and trades him for Eamon McAdam. Martin then plays 49 playoff games in the three following seasons as an integral part of an effective fourth line.

For the record Babcock was the one who made Martin a healthy scratch less than half way through Martin's second season with the team while Lou was still GM. Dubas'.didn't have anything to do with that other than try and give Martin a fair chance elsewhere once he was able

Conor Timmins was an elite prospect coming up. Injuries have really derailed his career. I would have been a lot more excited about this 3-4 years ago but maybe he can find some of that magic again.
Magic or health

No it’s not overblown when Colorado got to watch Nazem Kadri skate around the ice with the Stanley Cup over his head while we’ve had to watch Kerfoot coast around for four years.

Or when Florida benefited from a nearly point per game season from Marchment while Malgin played in Europe.

Or when Edmonton has a point per game Zach
Hyman for the price we’re paying Kerfoot and Engvall to score a combined 3 goals in 39 games this season

He has routinely favoured soft players over physical ones. And it hasn’t payed off. And he keeps doing it.
All these things are true

people care about the Soo so much but if he drafted nothing but London KNight kids no one would bat an eye.. and why would they.. good places get their players drafted/signed.. what a crazyyyy thought.

So many missed opportunities at GM with people on this forum. A shame too, People want the leafs to tank and all.

This is a low key really good move but people will just see the Soo and trading away a big player and complain some more.

Douglas is less than useless. At least Marchment was somewhat useful in the AHL so it was reasonable he could useful down the line(I'm still surprised he's been as great as he's been though). Douglas should legit should be a 4th line ECHL player, but I'd rather not saddle the Newfoundland Growler fans with having to watch him play either. Waste of a contract spot.

Is Timmins going to solve all our problems? No, but we're short on healthy defenseman right now, he has a fair bit of pedigree and has been good when healthy. If he can fill in for a couple games and be better than Hollowell then it's already a win even if he gets injured or claimed off waivers down the line again. Outside chance he puts his injury issues behind him and can actually be a useful player beyond the next 2 weeks but it's a win without that.

I think he did the opposite of treating Martin like "absolute garbage". He freed him from being a health scratch and sent him back to the team he wanted to go to.

As for the other guys, why do you compare Kerfoot to three guys that make more than him? It's a salary cap world and you seem to ignore that...not having Kerfoot here would not give us the space for either Kadri or Hyman.

Marchment is one that got away, but no one predicted that...having said that he played with some pretty good linemates last year and let's see what he does without them. He's a fine NHLer, but let's see what he actually becomes.

Why not mention Bunting? Or Verhaeghe? You seem to cherry pick here.

Douglas hurts to give up if only for the "What if?" but this is a good trade. Even if some of you don't want to admit it.

We get an extra NHL RHD, which we sorely needed with injuries piling up, and take a flyer on a former top prospect putting it together.

Yeah he's like the ultimate door number two in the price is right.

I don't think it's a bad deal especially where we fit in our cycle

I think this could turn out out to be a pretty good trade if he can stay healthy. I didn’t think Douglas would ever make the NHL due to his skating, but I wish him luck and hope he does make it.

I'm pretty sure the knights develop way more legitimate nhl talent then the soo

I honestly never thought I would see the day where Hollowell was needed to play.
Our $7.1 million D group is what it is but Mete has to be a better option than Hollowell regardless of which way he shoots.

Mete-Timmins bottom pair has to be better than Benn-Hollowell.
Give Jordie a break, no way he can play back to backs Friday-Saturday.

If the Leafs can go .500 on this road trip with the absolute bar none worst defense in the league and Kallgren playing 1 or 2 games I nominate Keefe for the Jack Adams.

Giordano - Holl
Sandin - Liljegren
Mete - Timmins

If Benn can play, swap Mete with Benn.

Dubas has to go. I’ve lost faith in him.

This is a pretty minor trade but the overarching theme to all his moves is just infuriating.

His aversion to anyone who plays a physical game is ridiculous. He’s learned nothing. And his love for former Soo Greyhounds is just comical at this point.

I don’t know how good Douglas will be but he’ll play in the NHL. This is basically the Mason Marchment trade 2.0.
Couldnt disagree more. I do this trade every day of the week. They got the better hockey player at a time when their d corp is riddled with injuries. Not sure what people are thinking. Has way higher upside than douglas.

Low cost move for both teams, both with potentially huge, but equally unlikely rewards. We get the short term benefit of an NHL body.

If Timmins stays healthy and develops to his pedigree we've got a solid top4 two way RHD
If Douglas develops and can skate at the NHL level they've got an extremely unique player, Brian Boyle with more offense and the toughest player in the league.

In the meantime, we have an NHL depth defenseman, they have an AHL depth forward.

When everyone gets healthy (except Muzzin) and Timmins plays solid in a limited role, we may have a logjam on defence. Rielly, Brodie, Liljegren, Giordano, Sandin, Holl, Timmins and Benn.

I think the hope for Timmins to develop into a top four RHD should be out the door. At this time, if Timmins can stay healthy and just be a good third pairing defenceman, that’s a win.

There's still plenty of Soo players left in the league to trade for. No need to overreact.

I bet none of you attended a Marlies game last season. I can tell because you're labelling Douglas as "useless".
I did go watch them play and I also liked the chance Dubas was taking on Douglas and thought Douglas’s skating improved a bit last year. It hasn’t improved at all this year and he hasn’t been effective. He’s not useless but he’s is and always has been a massive massive long shot. The idea of a Chara/Lucic unicorn at centre was always an unattainable fantasy. Douglas can fight but I don’t see him as particularly tough to play against otherwise. His reach and timing made him effective. At best, Douglas could maybe become a Boyle 4th line centre. Trading that long shot potential for another long shot potential for Timmins to be a healthy (key) right shot 6”2 top 4 defender is a gamble any team should, and would, take.

I would have preferred they continue to develop Douglas and moved someone else but at the end of the day this seems like a win for Dubas.

If Timmins can stay relatively healthy, you’re set on the third pair with Giordano and Timmins for the remainder of the year and next year. You can probably re-sign Timmins on a 2 year contract worth 900k per. The third pair would total out to 1.7 million and be pretty good. Good position to be in.

He is useful.....as an AHL 3rd/4th liner.
So was Mason Marchment in Toronto. He was actually given a real opportunity somewhere else and he flourished. For some reason physical players are buried here. I actually don't think it's because they're not good enough, because everytime they go to a new team they literally take off.

Douglas scored at a 42 point pace over 82 games as a rookie with the majority of his time on the 4th line. Marchment scored at a 48 and 46 point pace playing middle-six with the Marlies his first two seasons. You know what would have been nice for Curtis Douglas after a successful first season, almost too much so given his positioning in the lineup. Maybe, trying out the 3rd line or heaven forbid the 2nd line with actual linemates who could score with regularity. Maybe, some time in front of the net on the PP? Doesn't seem like a reach to use him that way. SDA was pacing for 51 points last year in the middle-six and he has been given every opportunity to succeed. What use do the Leafs have for SDA? I would think it would have been a lot more important for Douglas to be soaking up those minutes.

We don't need another Malgin, Engvall or Kerfoot we need a Marchment, Ritchie or Kadri. They keep gifting this player type away for soft as shit depth pieces. We need tough as shit depth pieces. I think Dubas is smart, but he has some serious holes in his team building philosphies. I think it's part of the reason he's successful (6 years in the playoffs), but part of the reason he fails (6 1st round exits). He's gone all in on his preferences and our team is probably the softest team in the league.

This is the home of Wendel, Roberts and Tucker. You can't deprive the fanbase like this.

I do find the "injury prone" label kind of interesting. Yah he's missed lots of time, but we're not talking about a guy who's constantly getting injured. He's suffered two really serious, but completely unrelated injuries. This isn't a 35-year-old with chronic back/knee issues.

Maybe he's injury prone. Or maybe he just got unlucky and he won't miss another game for years. Impossible to tell.

Hopefully he can come in and perform because we need it.
Stock up on duct tape and crazy glue, and hope that keeps him together well enough to stay reasonably healthy on the ice.

I hope Dubas checked to see the trade status for Tanev. Another D-man we could really use for our growing injured reserve!!! :D

I don't think the odds are high, But given his pedigree and the fact he's developed into a viable NHL option despite the injuries to this point.... if he stays healthy you can't write it off.

As good or better odds than of Douglas being an everyday NHLer
