Dubas has to go. I’ve lost faith in him.

This is a pretty minor trade but the overarching theme to all his moves is just infuriating.

His aversion to anyone who plays a physical game is ridiculous. He’s learned nothing. And his love for former Soo Greyhounds is just comical at this point.

I don’t know how good Douglas will be but he’ll play in the NHL. This is basically the Mason Marchment trade 2.0.

So last time we moved a big forward who "couldn't skate" it ended up being Mason Marchment.

I remember reading all the comments on here about how Marchment wasn't going to take the next step....lol and now we're trying to play Malgin in a bottom 6 role.

Douglas has struggled this season in the A. But we have no patience for these big guys who bring an element the leafs sorely need.

Dubas is a f***ing moron.
I don't like to pretend I know who Conor Timmins is, but I don't like it one bit.

Douglas can play and despite seeming like a reclamation project will find his game soon.

I do like Douglas b/c of his size and he seemed to be doing well (last season) and hit a bump this year. I dont think the Leafs should let a monster go and should be more patient. As I am sure there are other prospects in the system that can net Timmins.

Shall I go on? Where has Dubas ever stayed away from grit? Or are you going to just use the Marchment trade which ended up being bad, bit at the time was nothing for nothing.

I don't believe Douglas is much more physical than Timmins

Muzzin- Funny how he’s viewed as a physical shutdown guy in Toronto. When he was on an actual Stanley Cup winning team he was considered more an offensive guy.

Ritchie, Foligno, Clifford, Simmonds- Another big part of the problem is that when he does acquire physical players they don’t fit in and have success here. Ritchie and Foligno in particular have played better since leaving. We had our best game of the playoffs last season when Simmonds and Clifford played together. Then they never played together again.

I don’t know who Bush is and Kubel is not physical.

The problem with the Marchment trade is that a good number of us knew it was a bad trade from the beginning. How Dubas could possibly look at Marchment and Malgin side by side and conclude that Malgin would be more valuable to this team is mind boggling. Just an awful example of player evaluation.

It was a miss on his part. Bit the case for him being opposed to physical players is way overblown.

Hell,, he wouldn't have been able to trade Douglas todsy if he hadn't signed him this offseason.

No it’s not overblown when Colorado got to watch Nazem Kadri skate around the ice with the Stanley Cup over his head while we’ve had to watch Kerfoot coast around for four years.

Or when Florida benefited from a nearly point per game season from Marchment while Malgin played in Europe.

Or when Edmonton has a point per game Zach
Hyman for the price we’re paying Kerfoot and Engvall to score a combined 3 goals in 39 games this season

Or when he treats Matt Martin like absolute garbage and trades him for Eamon McAdam. Martin then plays 49 playoff games in the three following seasons as an integral part of an effective fourth line.

He has routinely favoured soft players over physical ones. And it hasn’t payed off. And he keeps doing it.

So many hilarious reactions in this thread

Douglas had been a great project for the Leafs, a 6-foot-9 forward who signed an entry level contract with the club hoping he could grow into his large body. His skating remains a question mark, but losing offence is not a worry for the Leafs right now with Jake Muzzin (spine), Morgan Rielly (knee) and TJ Brodie (oblique muscle) all out of the blueline picture for a while.

The plans for Timmins joining Toronto were made clearer by Dubas leading up to puck-drop Wednesday.

“He will meet us in Minnesota (Thursday), we’ll get him up and running and go from there,” said Dubas, who said discussion on trading a forward prospect for a defenceman began with Muzzin’s injury and the loss of Carl Dahlstrom, before Rielly and Brodie were hurt, too.

He said Timmins was “cleared, 100% healthy,” after previous injury issues that included a concussion.

“He’s a bigger guy than what we have. We liked his intelligence, making plays, he’s reliable offensively and defensively. And he just turned 24. A lot there for us to work with,” Dubas said.

The Leafs were putting Mac Hollowell, another ex-Hound, into his first NHL game here Wednesday, in scramble mode after Rielly was the latest to get hurt Monday against the Islanders.

Timmins has an $850,000 cap hit and will be a restricted free agent next year.

Timmins was drafted in Dubas’ last year in the Soo, prior to him joining the Leafs.

Can he not trade one of the small players .f*** me he's an idiot.
He's he allergic to a big guy that can fight.
f*** I hate this goof
He will end up in the NHL like Marchment..
One of these days mathews is going to get knocked out because Sandin won't be around.
Wait a sec...

You're upset that a guy who has 1 assist in 13 AHL games has been traded and are calling for the GM to be fired over it? And you think he's tough because he's big?

Sure, he can fight. But the guy generally plays a soft game. If you want a tough guy we still have Simmonds and Clifford kicking around.

Conor Timmins was an elite prospect coming up. Injuries have really derailed his career. I would have been a lot more excited about this 3-4 years ago but maybe he can find some of that magic again.
Well he's only 24. Still alot of time for him to get healthy and try and get his game back. I think he has a better chance of being something decent for the Leafs than Douglas does who at his peak seems like a 10 min a night 4th liner. It doesn't seem like this is going to be another Marchment situation again.
