This is a pure depth move as our D group is depleted. Guy has high upside but tons of injury history. If he works out and stays healthy, could be a pretty good addition but I see him playing more in the marlies.

So you have no idea who Timmins is, or how he's played in the past then?

Defensive Game

Conor Timmins is very physical in his own end of the rink. Forwards have to keep their head up on his side of the ice, as he is always looking to make an impact with a big hit. He maintains good gap control, and uses an explosive lower body to just explode into the hit. Timmins is also physical in the corners and in front of the net.

So you didn't see him play this year either?

A defenseman who hits things is my kind of D Man. A bonus if he clears the front of the net.

Arizona Coyotes have loaned forward Curtis Douglas to the Toronto Marlies.... ok, I made that up, but it would be amusing.

Is Bill Armstrong the only guy that picks up Dubas' phone calls !?

It's a low risk move for need, that could work out. Best case scenario = Timmins injury history has kept him from reaching his potential so far, and he finds it. Worst case, he's gone in the summer.

6'9" centre that can punch and might be able to produce offensively one day.... Yeah, no idea....

He's in year 2 of the 6 it took a much more polished Marchment to go from AHL to NHL contributor. Are you really this worried about a potential 4C in 2026-2028?

Marlies refused to take him back. I just made that up too, but there might be some truth in it, lol. Too big a guy to have around if he gets pissed off at the inept Marlie coaching but I wouldn't have minded seeing him get "Tie Domi level angry" with Greg Moore.

At the very least he's a very capable bottom-pair guy 40 games of the season. Traded nothing for him too.
Yup, I think worst case we got a current #5-7 for a guy who may or may not even make the 4th line.
Rather trade Douglas than like a 4th

I’d much rather him than hollowell in the lineup

Can he not trade one of the small players .f*** me he's an idiot.
He's he allergic to a big guy that can fight.
f*** I hate this goof
He will end up in the NHL like Marchment..
One of these days mathews is going to get knocked out because Sandin won't be around.
It is very funny how many size queens are having hissy fits because a 4th liner at best that is big got traded.

Guy has 15 fights in 7 years and is a 4th line C on our AHL team but let’s act like we just traded a prime player from the legion of doom line.

Stood there holding his stick when his goalie got ran. But all of a sudden since Dubas traded him, this is the reason why Matthews will get ran one day. Nice.

Agreed. Even if he wasn't interested in becoming an enforcer, they could have given him more than a month to turn into a 4th net front presence.

After years of drafting 5'9 players, its expected. Leafs are one of the softest teams in hockey.

lmao is that stat real? I didn't know his fight totals were so low, people are acting like he's a prime Brian Boyle with John Scott fighting proclivity and ability.

after years of drafting a small player here or there mid to late draft (when you wouldn't know any of the available players from your own ass), and the size queens melting down, they've trained themselves to melt down about any trade solely based on the size of the players involved.

I think Dubas is a bad GM, but some of you really get lost in the circle jerk.

God where oh where can we get another big forward project. Marchment, Brazeau, and Douglas were once in a lifetime opportunities, I bet this is the last time an underdeveloped big man goes unsigned and picked up for free. Dubas clearly has no idea where to find these guys.

It’s not even based on size anymore considering Timmins is 6’2” 200+

They gave him last year too. And Dallas gave him 2 years also.

But more importantly, this is not necessarily TOR giving up on the player. They traded away a minor asset for a minor roster need.
Trading a player doesn't always mean your done giving them time

Plus Timmins isn't really small either, if you're just interested in size

Some crazy overreactions in this thread…

I enjoyed day dreaming about Chara playing 4C for us but Douglas was a looooooooong shot. Despite his reputation and a few highlights, he sure as hell didn’t look like a physical force in camp this year. He looked softer than Engvall going into the corners.

Would I have preferred someone else. Like a Joey Anderson? For sure. But this is not a deal breaker for a defenseman (who is not a tiny guy in his on right…) with a lot of potential upside.
