Locking him up for his 24-30 y/o years is probably for the best. If he can carve out a Chris Kreider-type of career arc, minus the 50-goal outlier year, then that’s a win if you’re getting an AAV in the $6m ballpark.

Ooo, $6.2m. That's somehow quite a bit better in my head than $6.25m.
It's less than the midpoint of the previously reported range, so it feels like a discount. It's tying into the same bit of psychological trickery that makes $14.99 sound substantially less expensive than $15, as opposed to the negligible difference it actually is.

The cap went up $5M over a 4 year period, now it's going up about $4M a year.
So the norm for new contracts will adjust to the cap rising in the future.

Th Fedotov boat has sailed.

His current (arguably illegal) KHL contract does not expire until summer 2025.
His Flyers rights expire in summer 2024 and he will be an NHL UFA.

If he wants to come to North America:

A. It would probably only be in summer 2025.
B. He could then choose any team he likes.
Do we know this for certain? Ignoring the games CSKA is playing, Do we believe that the NHL would consider the NHL contract void? I imagine the Flyers at least would challenge him having FA status if he chooses to come over.

There is nothing in the CBA now that would enable them to hold his rights after this summer tbh... unless I am really missing something.

For the record, I doubt he will ever play for the Flyers. However, this would seem to me to be an edge case that would likely have to go to an arbitrator due to the fact that he essentially is in violation of his contract. Of course, you have the issue of the transfer agreement being basically out the window, along with numerous other factors. I'm also a moron, so I'm probably completely wrong.

We need to hope that with this recent streak that they start putting some trades together for Laughton, Walker, Seeler, Atkinson, Hathaway, and Staal

Can't imagine why he suddenly feels there's additional room in the budget in upcoming years, like they were planning on a high-priced player at a position and now will be looking to fill that with a cheaper option.

Let's see the AAV, but I like the player.
Agreed. Poehling's currently on $1.4M, so I'd be happy with $1.75 per, $2 would be reasonable. Beyond that, this stops making as much sense to me.

Of course, this deal looks better if it's paired with a couple more expensive, less useful options going away, Cambo.
