NHL Entry Draft 2022 NHL Draft Thread - Part 2

A lot will come down to who is picked after the obvious wright, slaf, Cooley, nemec, jiricek picks. The pick before us could be literally any one of the next 6-7 highest ranked guys. Out of the rest I think I prefer Kemel, Savoie, Nazar in that order for our pick.

Cooley showing off his playmaking ability... USA dominating after 2.
Howard should be helping his ranking in this tournament

Jiricek would be an absolute blessing for the Sens.

Any of the top 5 guys fit like a tee. Here’s hoping teams above us get cute and take 2 others, though I’d be very surprised.
I’m just thinking it’s a big jump from *college to NHL, he was doing great but hadn’t had time to establish himself. Jumping right back in to NHL after limited games and so much time off might be daunting.

I guess training camp will help steer to the right path.

*edit

*edit 2 - realized I responded to the wrong post sorry! Meant in reply to discussion on Pinto

Agreed, Howard reminds me of Brock Boeser during his draft year and may be getting undervalued because of a perceived notion he is a passenger for the USNTDP.

Would be a good time to try and trade into the top 5, if any teams value a guy higher than he’s expected. I know trade downs rarely, rarely happen that high in the draft, but would be huge for the Sens to get one of the 2 D or 3 top end forwards.

Getting one of the top 5 should be a huge push for the Sens.

Wow picking at #1 is tough.

I could see any of Slaf, Nemec, Jiri, Cooley, Wright being the best. All very projectable and close to being NHL ready as well.

They would have to use at least one of their 2nd rders to move up or maybe a very good prospect (Greig) or player like Brann could get them a spot or two higher.

Honestly let's stop thinking we are going to win the lottery. And go with the assumption we pick between 7 and 9.

Kemell Savoie Lekkerimäki and Nazar are all realistic targets for us. We have suffered too much heartbreak and best ignore winning the lottery.

I'd be more interested trying to snag another 1st if possible and using that to get a RHD

I get the feeling that Savoie is going to be a Cole Caufield clone. I doubt Dorion and team would take a small forward in the top ten but I think it would be a mistake to pass on him.

I don't think that's a great comp for Savoie, but the question of whether we'd take a smaller forward is a big one. Dorion was part of the Karlsson pick, but we've never seen Trent Mann go for a small, skilled guy in the early rounds.

Well they had Stu ahead of Byfield.

What do you mean? I was told there was no real difference between the 3rd and the 7th so how could there possibly be five obvious guys in the top-5?

Dorion is way too much of a genius to do that stuff. He'll draft some guy ranked 20th and tell us he was the best guy available.

The Senators have only drafted one player listed under 6 feet tall since Mann was promoted to chief scout, and that was Angus Crookshank who is listed at 5'11". That's over a span of 34 picks, so an extremely strong preference.

It's like the inverse of the Leafs. Since Dubas was named GM they've made 30 draft picks with 19 [!!!] of them being under 6 feet tall.

It would be pretty shocking to see them pick Savoie.

Agreed, Savoie’s game compares better to Stützle. He’s not afraid to throw his body and does whatever to help his team win.

I think the biggest need is a winger for Stutzle. If we get that we have two legit all around 1st lines.

But yea man Nemec is ridiculous. Like if he ends up a Makar or Heiskanen or Fox level you are looking pretty stupid for passing on him.

I agree thats the biggest need, but I dont think the sens are gunna be able to draft a guy that can step into the league next season or even the season after that.

Time is now for dorion to trade some serious futures to get that winger for stutzle.

Draft the best player available regardless of position I think.
