Speculation: 2024-2025 General Discussion III: No pressure JBB!

We gave up 2 firsts and 2 "roster" players for Hagel. How is this move comparable in the value? We are giving up significantly less.
Hagel was 4 years younger, made significantly less and was a RFA when the deal ended. Tuch should be closer to Coleman with a 1st +. I feel 2nd, 4th, Goncalves + Perbix is more than Nolan Foote.

It's likely that Buffalo is only interested in roster players. But... the fact that this is out there means someone from Buffalo leaked it. Can't see them doing that if they weren't trying to gauge interest.

I'm kind of afraid to think what we might offer for Tuch, given the contract and the rising cap.
I would love to get Peterka. I've been impressed every time I've seen him play.

If those are the deals we made I'd be over the moon. I'm not fixated on any particular player, Peterka would be a massive upgrade and Gourde would provide the depth we need.

Interesting that Friedman says Tampa is looking for scoring. I didn't listen, just going by the notes here, but I'm a bit surprised and slightly concerned there was no emphasis on bottom six size/grit/netfront presence etc. I don't think a pure offensive player like Boeser would do much for us at all.

Peterka i would use those assets for. He fits the age and contract that I would overpay for. Tuch is probably the better player now and maybe next year but Peterka will be the better player for longer. I know we want to win now but i think we also shouldn't completely empty the cupboards to.

We already have lots of dudes that don’t score

It's probably more like secondary scoring. Which is like a big net-front presence.

Here's the transcript:

Kyle Bukauskas: "The Tampa Bay Lightning - 4 straight wins going into the 4 Nations break, and they've continued to win coming out of the 4 Nations break. They too are one of the hottest teams going in the NHL right now. Man, they really seem to be clicking right now Elliotte. It was a few years ago the old saying 'count out or bet against the Tampa Bay Lightning at your own peril.' It's kinda starting to feel like they're entering that kind of status again. Boy, do they look dangerous, and you you quoted out there a few times the past few weeks, Julien Brisebois, don't count out his ability to do something big between now and the deadline.

Elliotte Friedman: "It's like Poltergeist. They're back, right? They're baccckkk. Well Vasilevskiy looks great. He looks really really good. And as a team they look really really good. I think they're looking for some scoring. I mentioned Tuch. I don't know what Tampa has to trade. Again, it's another team of every year going for it. They don't have a ton. I mean they have their first round pick from a couple years ago, the wonderfully dressed Isaac Howard. I just don't know if they're willing to do it. They don't have a first rounder this year. That's from the Tanner Jeannot trade, but they do have first rounders, including next years, which is the really loaded draft. So like they have something, but Buffalo as we've said, they want hockey trades. You look at that from Tampa's point of view, what do they have to do there? So, I do think they're gonna add. I do think they see themselves as, especially with the way they've played lately, I do think they see themselves as a team that can be a threat, and a legitimate threat, so I don't think they're gonna sit here and let this all go by, but you look at a guy like Tuch, I think he'd be perfect for them. I just don't know if they have the ability to do it. So, I'm looking for other fits like that."

KB: "It's incredible they're taking a run with where Toronto and Florida are at, how hot they've gotten. I know the east is wide open. And it blows me away that they would be considering scoring. They've been one of the best scoring teams in the whole league this year."

EF: "You can never have too many goals. Never."

KB: "That's a fair point."

EF: "And you know what, I'll say this too. I wouldn't be surprised if they add maybe a depth forward too. But I've heard they've looked around for that kind of a player. And why wouldn't you? Like a guy like Peterka too. I'm sure they've been talking to everybody, but one of the teams I've heard has just been Buffalo, but I look at them, cuz I think everybody calls Buffalo, but I look at them and I know what the Sabres want, at least we think we do, and you're sitting there saying do you see a match there, really? One of the things I wonder about the Lightning too , just sort of throwing this out in my head, if they're looking for a forward or a center, we talked in our west about Yanni Gourde. You just wonder, is that a player who appeals to them? There would be some romance to it. Remember how great that line was: Gourde, Coleman, and Goodrow, for the Tampa Bay Lightning when they were winning their cups. Maybe that's someone they look at. They obviously know him well. Proabably doesn't cost them a ton. He's a rental."

Sound more like spitballing than giving away some kind of insider information.

Yeah I'm sure they're desperate for Cernak when they have 2 1st overall picks down the right.....lmao
Buffalo has only 1 RHD under contract next season, an overpaid #6. I don't see Cernak going anywhere with that NTC but Buffalo is definitely a fit.

Might not be the right spot for this, however, we are looking at potential trade bait so here goes.
In an effort to win now, no player on the Crunch roster should be considered untouchable.
Given how poorly the team is playing overall this season, a major shakeup may be the wakeup call needed to motivate the players for next season. There are so many holes to fill, and so little time left in the AHL season, deal who you can to help the Lightning now and stick a fork in the Crunch as they have not played like a team that deserves to be in the postseason.

Tuch is very, very unlikely to be acquired, as according to Buffalo fans and apparently their GM, Tuch isn't likely to be moved for a futures type package. Since Tampa isn't moving either Cirelli nor Cernak for him, I doubt he's a realistic target (if the reports on how Buffalo values him are to be believed). I'm sure JBB would overpay considerably for him with picks, lesser roster pieces and prospects, but that doesn't seem like the right combo for the Sabres.
Ya but he is only signed for next season do you see him extending his contract to stay in buffalo?

I don’t

I like peterka for sure but buffalo has his rights longer then tuch . Peterka is young I just don’t see buffalo moving him unless you offer them like geekie , Howard and a 1st in just a crazy overpay to get him .

You probably can get tuch for a prospect, a 1st and a 3rd

Ya but he is only signed for next season do you see him extending his contract to stay in buffalo?

I don’t
Maybe not, but it doesn't really change how Buffalo is currently valuing him. If he or his camp tells Adams in the next 3 days that he isn't interested in extending, then perhaps the situation changes. I have my doubts though.

Now we know what positions we need. Bottom 6 and D
I would hope they add a 2RW, a middle/bottom 6 F that can add some additional scoring, and if possible, maybe a dman to take pressure off of Lilleberg/Raddysh/Perbix. They could spend a little less in futures on forwards like Palmieri+ a middle 6 add such as Donato, Evans, Armia, Gourde etc, or spend more on someone like Bjorkatrand or Rakell. If they want a left handed dman, Dumoulin or Ferraro could make some sense, or perhaps they try to pull someone like Kesselring out of Utah. Either way, they should definitely improve the scoring depth by the deadline, and possibly the defense, which is still a lesser priority imo.

I'm not arguing with the results but we can't be content to run the same game plan without a fraction of deviation. We did it last year and we've done it again since basically mid-December. Playoff hockey is about matchups and changing on the fly. We haven't proven we can adjust yet because we haven't necessarily needed to. I really hope this doesn't bite us in the ass

im down for a bigger trade for someone like tuch which could get us into two line playoff scoring realms. this will upgrade the bottom six with someone's demotion. also, if we go after a defenseman, we have to go big there too, since it seems we have a logjam of #6/#7 defensemen. perbix played almost 11 minutes last night and i think he might suck shit. you could say he's not going to make it long term, you're' allowed to say that as far as i know.
