Is there a legit Brock Nelson to Aves rumour?
No. Just pointless hopes from posters that are desperate and talking head experts who are just speculating that the Avs need a center so let's link Nelson to the Avs.

Personally don't understand why people want him, he's older and slow. Not really a great fit for a team that wants to play with pace. I really think he'd struggle in Bednar's system.

I'm 90% sure we're done on D. They even mentioned they want Manson and Lindgren on separate pairings.

Just to follow up on this, CMac at least said Bedsy can use Lindgren with Manson and others.

"Bedsy's got a lot of ways he can use him. He can use him with Cale. He can use him with Josh. He can mix and match with Malinski and Kylington. You can get him on the penalty kill and hopefully take some minutes away from you know, some of our top guys who are pushing big big minutes every single night."

Can you sell me on Nelson? I'm concerned he doesn't have the wheels to play 2C on this team, but I haven't watched him enough lately.

Watching the 4 Nations, they kinda played at the pace the Avs like to play, and it didn't seem like a great fit for Nelson.

A big, goal scoring center, is exactly what this team needs, but do you think he can play at the Avs pace? This is already part of the issue with Mitts.

Maybe they trade for Nelson and keep Mitts for a center depth of MacK-Nelson-Mitts-Drury? I think Mitts would be a good 3C.
Skating is a HELL of a lot better than Mittelstadt's we can say that much is certain. That's enough for me to want him. We know he can score goals and we know he's reliable defensively. He doesn't have to light the world on fire, just don't be a useless plug like Mittelstadt shift after shift.

My favourite take was when he said Bednar could use Vesey on the 2nd line 😆

Well f***... he brought Parsnips in to center the 3rd line and Bednar used him as a 2nd line winger instead. I think this was a f***ing pointed barb at his HC. Consider it shots fired.

After Juuso showed exactly two games into his tenure with the Avs that he was not able to completely fix Bednar's second line, he just f***ing threw him away. Forcing CMac to look for another 3C as part of the Mikko deal. CMac explains yet once again, Jack can be that 3C Bednar has been needed. So... Bednar goes on a multiple game streak using Drury as his 4C.

I really would love to have seen CMac and Bednar as a couple on the old Newlywed gameshow. Would be fascinating to see who was claiming centimeters are better than inches.

Well we have CMac's vote at least. He said, "I don’t think we’re totally satisfied" after the recent moves, so if he doesn't do much else, he'll be disappointed in his own deadline.
He's using the "we" to be inclusive of Jared Bednar.

You could allow CMac to break every hockey rule pertaining to salary caps and roster size... Jared Bednar would still not play his bottom six. There is a very good reason why he will never be part of a best on tournament as a coach.

It’s not just speed. It’s also about playing north south. He can be a presence around the net. Regarding your last comment. It’s hard not to wonder if MacFarland’s effusive praise of Minnesota guys might foretell someone else in play, whether that’s Nelson or Boeser?

Here you go:

Brock Nelson is NOT slow. One of the best rush players at high speeds in the NHL.

35 goals per season the last 3 years.

He would be a massive upgrade on our 2nd line.

Ridiculous take.

Yeah, they have been mentioned pretty much every single time he's brought up. I completely believe he's their top target.

What I'm unsure of is if they'll be able and willing to win the bidding war.

Half of 6M is 3M and they have about 4M left. No coincidence IMO.

My bet is they do include the 2026 1st with conditions, one of our better prospects (not top 2) and a close to the roster guy like Ivan. As it stands he's too good of a fit for what they need not to put it on the table, and we have a trading history with the Islanders.

Brock Nelson & EJ pack your shit

Wasn’t sure about his speed numbers but I’ve thought he’d be a good fit because he’s very decisive/north-south. But that’s also good to know. Additionally, he scores in a lot of the same ways Kadri did...around the front of the net. Would have thought he’d cost Mittelstadt because Lou would want a younger player with term who’s useful now. But if it’s really the first and prospect(s), you have to push hard for this.

A 2026 1st easily gets outbid by teams with a 2025 1st.

And outside of Ritchie the Avs don't have a prospect that could win a bidding war without a 2025 1st.

Even Ritchie + 2026 1st isn't guaranteed to beat other teams offers either if NYI prefer other prospects.

Given MacFarlands preference for targeting guys with term or guys he can re-sign as UFA's I wonder what it would take to convince Nelson to stay if we traded for him. Like give him an offer he can't refuse and have that 2C spot nailed down for a few years until everyone's legs go. What would that next contract look like?

Maybe not with how weak this draft is being viewed.
