I ntoiced that Slafkovsky really kept possession of the puck in the 1st period. The Devils aren't used to not being able to quickly get the puck and quickly transition up the ice. Sadly his linemates are prone to losing the puck when he eventually passes to them.
Thats the most frustrating part while watching him, he has crappy linemates that cant keep play alive.

Yeah its totally infuriating, You see Slaf do all this work and then we he tries to set up a play his teammates just bobble the puck away.

He needs another possession board battler and a guy who can shoot on his line. The Habs aren't trying for the playoffs this year so trying out a Slaf/Dach/Caufield line for a couple of games.

No way they touch that Caufield/Suzuki/Dach line right now.

They had a pretty pedestrian game against your team the other night but this was probably the only game of the season where they kinda struggled.

I get that but if there was ever a season to try out different lines and go crazy creatively it would be this season.

I don't think the management is in any rush when it comes to Slaf, they are liking his individual progress and eventually, he'll get higher in the lineup and get better linemates.

Dach is only 21 years old, he's in development also.

Same for Suzuki and Cole, they're all still really young.

I agree

No need to break up the caufield suzuki dach line now or in the near futur

Getting Slaf to play on the 3rd or 2nd line with better players than Evans and Pezzetta/Pitlick (no disrespect to them) and more minutes for the year is a good thing for him. Being thrown out on the first line when you’re not necessarily ready can actually stress him out or make him lose confidence because of everything he has to learn at once while playing with the team’s best players.

He needs on that line and GO TO THE NET.
Slaf is a skill player. telling him to go to the net mindlessly just because he's big would be the same thing as telling someone like Ovechkin to do that. It's a waste.

Of course ALL forwards should spend some time in front of the net, but that shouldn't be his primary thing.

It sucks Armia got injured, I think him playing with Armia on the same line is a good thing for his development as I would love for Slaf to be able to learn from Armia how to protect the puck with his body and how to generate turnovers with his huge reach.

Slaf already knows these 2 things, no need for Armia - this ain't KK or Chucky. He needs to play with good players and get used to the offensive flows.

Agreed. Slaf has very impressive size but he don't play power forward type. He is a skilled big winger like Rantanen. His body is going to help him protect the puck and cut around guys. I don't think he will be a net crasher type.

Slaf can play physical and it's an asset. However, this guy has skill and a very good shot. If he can develop accuracy with his shot, watch out!

I actually don't mind what they are doing lately. Bottom 6 at 5/5 and on the 2nd PP unit. He's gaining confidence/momentum so let that continue at his pace as he works with MSL. Not the media or fans pace of moving him up.

Evans has been underwhelming. He appears to have settled into a mindset where he believes he just has to tread water and not provide any offence.

One night in the pressbox while Rem Pitlick centers his line (while Rem is here) might enable him to see what the other Cs are doing.

Maybe Anthony Richard and his motor and offensive push need to challenge Evans the way Evans once challenged Poehling.

Engels has a good piece today, mentions Slaf video studies. Rantanen is the first study, then it talks about Brady Tkachuk and Charlie Coyle. Really insightful stuff.

Slaf has been taking reps with Moneyhands at today’s practise. Don’t know if that will stick for game time.
Thinking it's time to move him up the lineup......he should be with skilled players....I get why they buried him of sorts, but really the time seems right at this point....

Let's see what MSL has up his sleeve.

This is great. I like the fact both MSL and Adam Nicholas are both involved. They are really working for him to use his body and reach to power himself forward in the Ozone.

Yay!

Either way, at least it's a start.

I'm not sure if Anderson will prove to be the best 3rd wheel for a Monahan-Slaf duo. But hopefully MSL will figure it out.

If he doesn’t move up from the 4th line I still think he need to be sent to Laval where he could get more ice time.
Not really. He does not need more reps against 5th and 6th liners.

I prefer Anderson to Gallagher or Armia.

We'll see who has chemistry.

I personally think Dvorak is the best candidate to make that line the best it can be, followed by Evan's. And I have any line Monahan centers as the 2nd line, after the Cc-Suzuki-Dach line. So I say load up the 2nd line.

1st line: Sudafield
2nd line: Slaf-Monahan-Anderson
3rd line: Hoffman-Dvo-Gally
4th line: 3 of Evans, Daddy, Armia, Pezzetta, Pitlick, Richard

Just a quick FYI he is not and never will be an Ovechkin not to mention nobody said anything about going mindlessly to the net. Watch a certain #7 with the Sens own the net. He makes plays from behind in front and from both sides. He needs to start doing the things a goal scoring POWER FORWARD does on a regular basis. Drive the net open lanes and dominate down low. This is what he can bring to the table to begin with. It's not like doing it will kill his skill all of a sudden.

There is not question about is potential the guy is 18 he need ice time and confidence to keep moving is feet. He didn’t blow away the competition in Liiga or rookie camp or preseason, he show great thing every time but never was outrageously dominant. Going to the AHL isn’t a life sentence, he will get more ice time, the AHL is significant competition he will know what he has to work on, might be able to pull thing that he can’t in the NHL but he should not develop bad habits.
