Yeah that'd be a bit odd, but they'll still be able to keep a keen eye on him now that he's with Ronning.

I suppose. They've had a couple years to watch him plus whatever they invested in scouting him initially, so you'd think they know what they have in him. And now if he does anything noteworthy there will likely be competition for him and I doubt the Rangers would be his top choice at that point.

I think it's probably just coincidental.

Please avoid the CHL mid round picks. Jamie Benn might be the only player to make it as a mid round CHL player. Take a chance on a KHL guy or a college bound player. That will give them more time to evaluate the player. The KHL player rights are basically forever and the college player is under control for 3-4 years. The Rangers need to make a change with who makes the selections. Gordie Clark is no spring chicken.

Europe is so poorly scouted to begin with. So many players go undrafted out of there or very low in the draft.

If you're going to take a Canadian, should do it in the 1st/2nd round. After that I'm taking a kid going the NCAA route or a Euro/Russian player late in the draft.

I'd also look at an overage Euro player before an overage CHL player. Last overage CHL player I've seen drafted making a big impact is Pearson, and even he was a 1st rounder.

For me it's easier to judge European players since I follow the KHL and SHL (Basically my time-zone LOL) and it seems like there is too much focus on Canadian junior hockey. In recent years, other leagues like the AJHL, BCHL, USHL and of course NCAA have seen a steady rise in the no of players drafted as a whole. The upside of drafting a kid in Europe or one going the NCAA route, is that it gives you at least 2 extra years to judge them and follow their development. By the time the draft comes along, most players in those other leagues know if they are going through college or not. It's certainly a good strategy

I watched plenty of Huskies this season and i pretty much agree with that article. I think they're even underselling his skating a bit, he's fast when he gets up to speed and his acceleration is atleast OK.

Also love the way he plays in the OZone, he knows he's not the most creative so he just makes the slot his office, scores pretty much all his goals from in close.

Fontaine's game seems to be more suited for pro hockey than other prospects from previous years like Tambellini. I liked the way he played in the play-offs. That's always a good indicator

Here is the top 15 prospect list from Scott Cullen of TSN: http://www.tsn.ca/off-season-game-plan-new-york-rangers-1.770575

1. Shesterkin
2. Day
3. Graves
4. Huska
5. Halverson
6. Nieves
7. Gropp
8. Pionk
9. Wall
10. Gettinger
11. Fontaine
12. Nell
13. Zborovskiy
14. Jensen
15. Pedrie

5 goalies, 5 defensemen, 5 forwards
Not sure if he considered Bereglazov as a prospect.

Don't think he mentions Bereglazov at all in the article itself, which makes me a bit suspect of the article. And I like Cullen.

Agree that prospect pool is not great and that Halverson and Nieves are too high. But the real weekness is at forward. The goalies look good and fiven the signing of free agents Bereglazov and Pionk, the development in junior of Sean Day and Zborovskiy to go along with Ryan Graves the defense prospects are looking better. But the forwards are a big concern. I know you have to draft BPA and this draft seems to be a defense heavy draft but if Kostin or Yammamoto fall to 21 I would think seriously about them.

Yeah maybe, definitely outside the top 10 atleast. Our prospect pool is a crap shoot outside of like the top 3/top 5 anyways :P

Thats an exceptionally poor list. Like almost no regard for anything other than name recognition.

I wouldn't call it an "exceptionally" poor. Switch Halverson and Wall and move up Zborovsky and it's pretty reasonable take on the poor state of our prospect pool.

List should be

Shesterkin
Graves
Zborovskiy
Day
Gropp
Halverson
Wall
Fontaine
Bereglazov
Kovacs
Tambellini
Huska
Pionk
Gettinger

People are way too down on Pack players. Gernander was an imbecile. He ruined the offense of almost every prospect down there Graves is going to be a great pro. So is Zborovskiy. I can't believe he was rated that low. Wake up people. Gropp's skill set fits the new NHL perfectly. People should not give up on Halverson. His second year in leagues are usually much better. Tambellini is also a ton better than Nieves. Fontaine to me is going to be a big part of our future. He does every thing well. Is super clutch. Can dominate on draws.

We traded Justin Fontaine at the trade deadline for Taylor Beck.
