I think Day will probably make it, not so sure about Gettinger. Might need a great start to do so. If Day starts in the AHL, he does reasonably well and we release him, he should have a very good chance to make it.

Wall should also make it, but he's playing in the NCAA's, and Canada prefers players playing in the CHL. I doubt he's even in much contention.

Sorry if it was discussed, but have we already lost Brad Morrison? Or is there still time to offer him the ELC?
What happened there? I was very happy with his pick back in the day.

We lost his rights. What happened is basically nothing--his game didn't progress at all from the time he was drafted. There was no development and we walked away.

As far as I know, the deadline to sign Morrison was June 1st. He is just one of those players who had all the talent, but didn't put it together. Same with McColgan in the past. Sometimes it's better to not sign them and leave an extra spot open

NYR forfeited exclusivity.
no team jumped in on June 2 to sign him, so NYR didnt make a foolish moove
he got traded to WHL Vancouver for an overage (20+) season
Drury could sign him to AHL deal if team wanted to and he agreed
Could still do that in a year

Keegan Iverson was an even higher pick the year before, he had a 70 point overage season, and still has no contract

the real fail by NYR may have been Mantha

Why? Because Edmonton signed him? It happens. I didn't see anything regarding Mantha that justified a contract. Iverson never developed as a player. 70 points as an overager in the WHL isn't really worth much when you're playing against 17-year olds

we actually agree here
the point of the post was many players dont get signed, they don't earn it
i cited Iverson to reinforce that the Morrison decision was reasonable

all I said about Mantha was it "may have been" a mistake
thats a pretty soft comment,

he is a Righty D, an always in-demand commodity like lefty pitchers,
and he seemingly had a strong overage season

we wont know more for a few years

Mantha's OHL coach was David Bell, he was an asst coach with the Oilers AHL team a few years back.

Mantha had an impressive year, 2nd in scoring and was the team's best playoff performer along with Kiril Maksimov.

Less than 3 years and he's done as a NYR prospect. The sad part is taking him and Nejezchleb in'14 when plenty of good college bound guys were still available and today are way better prospects than these two.

Oh, and Viktor Arvidsson was still on the board.

This is your weekly reminder that Daniel Bernhardt exists :sarcasm:

I'm looking forward to this dev camp so much, hope we invite some of the really good undrafted players too, i want Minulin at camp.
