WJC 20/21 should be cancelled

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. I'm worried you're right.

First, they get together late. Then they practice while quarantining and have roommates.

Thanks for nothing, US Hockey. No wonder your own players dump on your organization. :thumbd:
 
It's obvious no country took precautions for this tournament as seriously as Canada. Maybe that's to be expected. That's unfortunate. It would have been a wonder distraction. A Christmas gift to hockey fans.

As of now, I'm expecting the tournament NOT to be played - one positive case from the Finland/Sweden/Russia plane and it's over.

It's too bad.
 
At the rate other national teams are losing players to COVID restrictions, this is shaping up as one of the most lopsided tourneys in recent years. Not entirely sure why the IIHF and Hockey Canada were so determined to hold this tournament in the midst of the worst Pandemic numbers of the yea so far.

But here we are, with teams set to enter the Edmonton 'bubble' on Sunday. But only after the testing and screening is done will be know whether this tournament can even proceed.

I'm glad they're trying. If the WJRs are held, it will bring a LOT of joy to people's lives over Christmas.

Some Swedish teams are sending away multiple players, one team even five (!) players mid season. Imagine a NHL team having to play without 5 of their players mid season. Would they quarantine them for two weeks in addition to the tournament?

The consequence of that could be RELEGATION to the lower division in this case and losing at least half of your revenue the next season.

It's not about countries and teams being more or less serious about precautions. The serious option would have been not going through with the tournament at all.

Plus from a US perspective most kids come from the NCAA, if we started our camp mid November there would be a few teams with multiple players out for the first half of the year. In Canada it made more sense because two of the three CHL leagues didn’t even start yet (OHL & WHL) Which makes up the bulk of their roster most years so obviously for them it’s a much easier choice this year.
 
Wow. A morning withOUT bad news. Who would have thunk it?

Maybe this thing will happen after all.

How was thing not figured out BEFORE everyone got on the plane?

Every time I THINK Hockey Canada doesn't know what they are doing, I look around the world and see they are truly the Gold Standard.
