Why? Gretzky played nearly 8 years with a broken back?if ovechkin starts racking up injuries and misses the record because of it, that would be f***ing terrible

So much talk about Crosby. Make a thread for him if you want. This thread is about one of three players ever to score 800+ goals in the NHL. He's snakebitten to hell right now but still managing to produce points and is a part of a line with among the leagues highest xGF/60. Hopefully whatever is bothering him goes away so he can break the record from his office.
Snakebitten is just yet another coping mechanism for those that want something but are unwilling to see reality as Ovi is meeting Father time.In what way is he snakebitten? Are a lot of his shots hitting the post? Running into Haseks every night? Why does it have nothing to do with how terrible he plays?
His line with Strome/Wilson is 33rd in XGF/60. Considering there's 32 NHL teams, how is that among the leagues highest?
His line combination with Kuznetsov/Wilson has the worst XGA/60 in the league
Your later points is correct, it won't matter if he gets the record or not at this point for his career ranking.Snakebitten is just yet another coping mechanism for those that want something but are unwilling to see reality as Ovi is meeting Father time.
Most of us already have seen the signs of his aging and there is only so much sheltering that can be done as time goes on.
At this rate setting the record is really in question and it really won't make any difference in his legacy anyways.
Fair enough but there are enough young stars and even mid career and late career ones that the NHL might be the most exciting interchange in my life and I'm in my mid 50's.Your later points is correct, it won't matter if he gets the record or not at this point for his career ranking.
Having said that, as a huge fan of OV throughout his career, I think it's fair to let him ride into the sunset however he wants as any other generational player, he's earned it. I for one will miss him in the league.
Just like how people talk about Brett Hull having more MVPs and goals than Yzerman, despite playing 250 fewer games.
Oh wait they don’t. No one does. As Yzerman was clearly the superior player despite scoring fewer goals (at a much lower pace) and didn’t win an MVP.
The people declaring Ovi "Done" is in for a lot of crow when he goes on a tear.
I mean, blind squirrel with a broken watch, no?...for the 25th time.
Of course it will he'll go down as the greatest goal scorer that bested the greatest hockey player in history. Or not. Gargantuan difference.Your later points is correct, it won't matter if he gets the record or not at this point for his career ranking.
If people think that he needs to goal record to be seriously considered the best goal scorer of all time then they are mistaken.Of course it will he'll go down as the greatest goal scorer that bested the greatest hockey player in history. Or not. Gargantuan difference.
No they are 100% correct anything else is mental gymnastics. Like what you just posted. If people think that he needs to goal record to be seriously considered the best goal scorer of all time then they are mistaken.
7% more goals in 250 fewer games, was the point.Brett Hull has 7% more goals than Steve Yzerman.
Ovechkin has nearly 50% more goals than Crosby.
Your analogy here is hilariously piss poor.
Yes? Outside a few posts, he's also had a handful go back on reviews for offsides because Wilson seems to have forgotten the rules this year.In what way is he snakebitten? Right. Ovechikin has nearly 50 percent more EN goals than Crosby.Ovechkin has nearly 50% more goals than Crosby.
This is just silly. Ovechkin is already the best goal scorer of all-time, record or not. You won’t find too many people that disagree with this statement.Fans: Ovechkin is going to pass 99 to become the greatest goal scorer of all time
Reality: he might not make it
Fans: it doesn't matter if he passes 99 he's still the greatest
pathetic

So yes, exactly that, and Strome hasn't gotten nearly the time on the top line that he should because they've been trying to engage a completely useless Kuznetsov, which explains both parts of that...
Between this and what was almost assuredly an early season injury... the f*** are we talking about here?
He literally is not unless you think numbers are not real. Then yes in fantasy land you get your wish. Also your appeal to if the mob thinks something it must be true doesn't change objective reality. This is just silly. Ovechkin is already the best goal scorer of all-time, record or not. Numbers are era-dependent. Personally, I think Lemieux is the best goal scorer (before Ovechkin, maybe even still), but that doesn’t mean he’s the greatest. Gretzky is the greatest until his record is broken. He literally is not unless you think numbers are not real. Then yes in fantasy land you get your wish.
