Pretty sure Bill valued Chiarot highly, and viewed him as a future Panthers.

No way he would have given that first pick if not…

He was just wrong on the numbers.

Also we have to remember this was his first one and he probably felt the need to make a statement while we were a Presidents trophy team, that’s why he went all-in on Giroux and Chiarot even with our probable cap-crunch !

I heard the story that trade was pushed by his assistant who then got fired because of this failure. That move was maximally un-Zitoish, everybody knew Chiarot is gonna get traded and Montreal will ask for a big return for a player that really not worth it

Nope… But maybe he would take 3.5M over 4 years… Or 4M for three…

It’s not that much more then Stonehandes, even if I like the guy to death and will always defend his talent.

What if Marchand just crush it as much as ERod did ? What if Marchand/Bennett/Tkachuk is really that unstoppable thing nobody can cope with in the playoffs ? What if Ekblad is really gone because he wants the money ?

Marchand will be in Zito’s soup and he will be back if it makes sense for us.

Bill Zito ALWAYS acquires players who fits in the short AND long-term in his construction of a team. He has proven it a long time ago, and keeps doing it.

he might. Bs fans feel like he's been underpaid and might not be keen to sacrifice again.

i know zito is looking for good fits in general but i consider marchand more like a giroux. i don't think there was ever any serious talk of bringing him back. he was going to get a big contract to captain a team that needed that. marchy's older but same vibe.

i think he takes another crack at the cup and then finds another team on the east coast to give him closer to what he wants but we'll see!

He clearly misses Boston (can't blame him after spending so much time there) and to me it seems like he didn't want to leave. He got choked up around 15 minutes in when talking about the failure to get the extension done.

Yeah - I felt for him then. And the fact that they had been talking about a possible extension right up to Thursday evening, meaning this was very much a last minute deal. Kudos to Marchand, he couldn't have been classier about the situation, even though he was obviously upset and emotional. I'll leave it to Bruins fans in terms of what to feel about the decision making here by Sweeney, but I would definitely be upset if that was Barkov up there for a second round pick...

Like all of you, I've hated him in the past but he actually does seem like a decent guy [off the ice], and I think he'll be a fantastic teammate and gel quickly with our guys. TBH, he'll probably always be a Bruin at heart but I'm hoping he will be rejuvenated over here and bring everything he can to help us win again. He'll definitely make the next few months even more entertaining and memorable! And who knows after that.

PS. Just the thought of him and Mikkola joking in the corridors is still so surreal...
