Prospect Info: Wild Prospect Thread 2022-23

I think Wild's "advantage" compared to teams like Buffalo and New Jersey is that we haven't had that many key graduates outside of Boldy and to a lesser extent Addison.

It's kind of a weird system when Rossi being sent down boosts our ranking.

I would put us more in the 7-10 range probably. Maybe we have the deepest prospect pool in terms of the number of NHLers that will come from it, but like always it is very deficient in terms of top of the lineup players.
Yes, but there is a school of thought that you want to have a bunch of lottery tickets, even if they are of lesser value. The disappointing performances of “ sure thing” prospects like Lafreniere, Kakko, Puljujarvi, Byfield, Turcotte, and amazing performances of players like Kaprizov, Robertson, and the like only highlight that it’s always a bit of a gamble. Better to have a lot of picks, though I’ll grant that it’s better to have a bunch of really high draft picks.

I complain a lot about some of the choices that BG and the gang have made, but I do like the way they have kept their draft picks, for the most part, and gotten some extra ones besides.

The Wild have done this part right, even if they've done other parts of building a franchise wrong. If you can't draft extremely high, draft somewhat high extremely often. I don't see a superstar in the pool, but in 2016 I didn't see Kaprizov as a superstar either, just a very intriguing prospect who fell in the draft because of concerns about his size-skating combo, and being an under-scouted Russian. I could be correctly accused of calling him a shoot-first Granlund back then.

I'll reserve my judgement of the Wild's pool until about 5 years from now.

Guess my ears were ringing.

Wallstedt has franchise altering talent. He also has a relatively safe floor. If he hits, that’s the type of goaltender that elevates the franchise on its own for the most part. Askarov is really the only goaltender prospect that can say the same without significant development from someone.

Like it or not, Wheeler feels the same about Rossi. Maybe he gets there, maybe he settles in as a PMB type.

The Wild have a significant amount of prospects that are easily projectable at the NHL level. Many have enough tools that could lend themselves to being more than what some may comfortably say they are now. Their outlying prospects down the line are in the mold of being toolsy and not necessarily sure fire NHLers so if you think a couple of those may hit, it measures up to a damn good pool.

There’s prospects types out there I would like it the pool and after the 2023 draft, their pool may look a little different in relation to their peers. But it’s a pretty well stocked farm at most levels.

The athletic had a separate ranking I think where we got 8th of U23 players, which is a more accurate picture of the entire organization.

This. My guess is that's the reason we're ranked so highly.

Not sure if I can post the list based on forum rules. I figure it might be okay since I’m not posting the description for each player. Mods please edit if needed.

1. Wallstedt
2. Rossi
3. Ohgren
4. Yurov
-tier break-
5. Faber
6. Lambos
7. Khusnutdinov
-tier break-
8. Peart
9. Beckman
10. Spacek
11. Bankier
12. Lorenz
13. Hunt

15. Petrovsky

HM: Haight, Masters, Nesterenko, Warren and Milne

Also gave a shoutout to Pavel Novak wishing him the best

There’s certainly a few of these rankings I disagree with. I would have Yurov over Ohgren, Khusnutdinov over Faber and Lambos, Haight over Lorenz, and Hunt/O’Rourke feel pretty low but that could be just a testament to the depth of our prospect pool.

He also says that Wild has the most prospects in his upcoming top 50 prospects ranking.

Wheeler listed the Wild as the top prospect pool in the NHL.

Anyone know if Yurov ever signed an extension in the KHL? I believe his contract ends after this season, so it’d be nice to get him over here.

Iowa just exploded for 3 goals. Mermis, Rossi, and Beckman.

Also, Rossi is pronounced "row see." Goal announcement at the rink confirmed.
