I thought Yurov was drafted as a left shot right winger with a lot of skill and talent. If it translates to center, that would be wonderful. Just don’t ruin any development by forcing him there.

He’s the offensive prospect I’m most excited to see more of.

Yurov centering the second line again

Is Yurov even a center in the KHL? He had a few games of 10 faceoffs early in the season, then a long string of games with 0 or 1 faceoff taken, and last game he had 5 faceoffs taken.

He’s played 49 games and has 77 total faceoffs (1.57 faceoffs per game) with a 40.3% win rate. In the MHL has 20 faceoffs in 10 games with a 35% win rate.

His linesmates from this graphic, Chibisov and Nikontsev, have taken 5 total faceoffs combined this year. Considering he's 19 years old and averaging 30 seconds of ice time per game (actually 8:55), I think he's playing center enough that it's worth noting. Even if he's more of an injury fill in, rather than a full time center.

He's not very good at the faceoffs, but he's also 19 in the KHL. And it's not unheard of for young centers to not take faceoffs. First example that comes to mind is Giroux taking faceoffs from the RW for Stutzle.

I’m all for it if he can make center work. I just don’t want to ruin any of his offensive potential by sticking him with the defensive responsibilities that a center has. Every clip I’ve seen of him shows that he has high end potential.

If you look at guys who put up points for that team, and then look at which of those are taking the faceoffs, the only guys with more points AND faceoffs taken than Yurov are Philippe Maillet and Denis Zernov. Leads me to believe that Yurov could be in a really good position to be used as a regular top 9 center next season, if MMG wanted to. He should be a better player than guys like Currie, Fisenko and Nekolenko, who already have less points/more faceoffs taken, and even Zernov, who leads the team in faceoffs taken, only has 25 points in 57 games, so Yurov could be a better offensive player than him too.

Obviously I don't follow that team and don't know what their plan is, but if they were planning on using him as a middle six center next season, that's worth keeping him over there. I like the idea of signing and loaning him though.

I agree with that. He's the prospect I'm most excited for in our system, so I don't wanna force him into the center position if it's not for him, but there is a lane if MMG chooses to go that route/if he can handle it.

Can we sign him and then loan him to the KHL and be able to recall him whenever?

I would say he’s the prospect I’m most excited for, but Wallstedt has basically stolen my heart. Love that guy.

No, a loan lasts for the season. I am ok with loaning him for a full year, but not two, or three. Walker, Rossi, and maybe Beckman will likely be more ready next year to fight for a spot on the NHL team than Yurov. Marat in 24-25, and maybe one of Yurov, Ohgren, Bankier?
I’m not sure that Beckman will ever be a NHL’er, but I’m not sure that he won’t, either.

In case anyone else wanted to check the assists part, Marat has 26 assists and both Kaprizov and Kuznetsov had 25.

Comparing to Kap and Kuznetsov, Marat is showing much more improvement compared to his 19 year old season.

Khusnutdinov has a 51.7% faceoff percentage with 600+ faceoffs taken. Plays almost 16 minutes a night. Had a goal and three assists yesterday against the top team in the KHL’s East conference.

I'm glad we are getting some recognition with our prospect pool. Judd Brackett has been my favorite hire/signing from Billy G. I'm looking forward to reading Scott Wheeler's article when it comes out.

I wonder if those 7 seconds were all on one shift, or if they were broken up into three or more?:sarcasm:

Walker and Wallstedt off to the All Star game. Walker scored last night, and Wallstedt was great in a lost cause, stopping 40 of 43 shots. The final goal was not his fault…I’d blame it on the refs, really, and he made some spectacular saves, which is not what you see from him, usually.

The thing that really excites me about Wallstedt is that I think there’s a good chance he’s one of those guys that we look at 15 years down the line and say he is a player that defines our franchise. He absolutely has the capability to be a lundqvist level player for us.

It looks like he’s got the bad angle shot problem that he had earlier in the year figured out, anyway. He just has to mature physically… he appears to be rock solid as a personality. I can see him getting a call up this year, if only to sit on the bench, then getting a couple/few games next year, maybe more if there are injury problems. Earlier in the year McIntyre was the better goalie, but the situation has flip flopped, and Wallstedt is better, I think.

It was kind of weird that in a couple of 4 on 4 situations where Beckman and Walker were the forwards, they had Beckman taking the FO’S. Huh? Walker has played far more center than Beckman. Not a great FO man, but better than Beckman, for sure.

I thought Khusnutdinov wasn’t able to come over till 25-26? This and Google are saying his KHL contract is up April of 2024. If he’s able to play in 24-25 for Minnesota, that would help tremendously with the last year of the huge dead cap.

It also aligns with when Zucc’s contract ends… so if they wanted to break him in at wing next to a fellow Russian, that is an option.

He signed a 2 year extension mid-season in December 2021, so it checks out.
