can firstov & marat be better than steele & hartman? lets hope so. im crossing my fingers yurov is great and just being suppressed because of no contract. next draft another russian daniil but is looking like my kinda pick.
Marat, I hope so. Firstov is more of a longshot. Remember, both Steel and Hartman were 1st rounders.

Call up Walker right now
He certainly would give us a different look, but Dean is obsessed with toughness, as is evidenced by him playing Reaves over Shaw. I think we would have enough toughness on the team if we subbed Shaw for Reaves, and Walker for Greenway(or Hartman, I'm hating his game recently, but he is more talented than JG, IMO). Would make us quicker, faster, and hopefully, bring a bit of offense. It's hard to do worse than Greenway and Reaves.
If it doesn't work out, then no big deal, go back to the Clydesdales.

It's like Dean was bullied as a kid, and swore that it would never happen to him again when he grew up. Meanwhile, the NHL is turning into a speedy, skilled league.

If you look at Dean's numbers in the NHL it makes sense as Dean was a grinder:

The team’s coach, the intimidating Bill LaForge, demanded 50 hits and 50 shots every game, with players having to pound the number — written in blue sock tape — on the back of their dressing room door.

Their best player? The one that personified their identity? That was Recchi’s idol: Dean Evason.

He had over 1000 PIMs in 800 games.

Yurov centering the second line again

I really hope he comes to NA next year. Obviously hoping Rossi makes the jump and sticks/performs in Minnesota but could be a crazy 1-2 punch for Iowa. I get he is projected as a winger in the NHL but maybe able to use him in a similar capacity to how Ottawa is utilizing Stutzle. I know Stutzle is averaging like a 40% faceoff percentage, but it has opened up other avenues of his game. Not comparing the two on skill ceiling however feel like they have similar skill set.

I get that it can be easier and better for him to develop in Russia, but having him in Iowa allow us to bring him up if he is playing really well, and have him in pre season camps, etc. It can be invaluable for a player to get a taste of the NHL as an example of what they need to work on. Sometimes one game in the bigs has more impact than an AHL coach yelling at you about what you need to do.
Interesting that he is getting time at C.

I only wish that Marat could come over sooner than 24-25..

Ya, but… if Rossi at PPG in the AHL, and Marat .65 in the KHL, should Marat get NHL time over Rossi? Is the KHL that much better than the AHL, especially this year when fewer players are willing to play in Russia, causing the quality to go down?

Of course, if Gaudreau isn’t re-signed, then we could use both of them.

Interesting. They also have their highest scorers, Philippe Maillet and Brendan Leipsic, playing 4th line. I'm not sure what, if anything, this means. Maybe they just list them randomly on these?
That’s what I’ve heard. The listed order of the lines often has nothing to do with their TOI and usage.

I think this is reasoning to your point in the last message about seeing Yurov over here in Iowa vs developing another year in the KHL. Always rather compare apples to apples than apples to oranges.

If the NHL is an apple, and the KHL an orange, what fruit is the AHL?

Have to wonder if KHL talent is a bit watered down with so many Europeans and North Americans pulling out. Maybe our prospects are just that good but scoring seems up for young guys in that league

That’s what they say. It’s watered down just like the Covid AHL was watered down, albeit for different reasons.

I don’t know that I’d be comfortable playing in Russia right now.

Is producing in a "watered down" KHL better than producing in the CHL? I think ultimately it is a crap shoot for prospects until you see them in your system and see development from year 1 to year 2 of that. Obviously there are outliers.

Absolutely, but we were comparing AHL and KHL, more specifically, PPG in the AHL vs .65 PPG in the KHL.

CHL is a whole different animal, or to carry our analogies above further, fruit.

Can we still develop Yurov as a center if he plays in Iowa next year? If not, I'll take the 2-3 year KHL extension.

Is Yurov even a center in the KHL? He had a few games of 10 faceoffs early in the season, then a long string of games with 0 or 1 faceoff taken, and last game he had 5 faceoffs taken.

He’s played 49 games and has 77 total faceoffs (1.57 faceoffs per game) with a 40.3% win rate. In the MHL has 20 faceoffs in 10 games with a 35% win rate.
