Speculating on whether Kunin would’ve had 37 points in the KHL is a weird statement. He had 31 in 63 gp when he was 22 in the NHL, which is a much better league, especially now with a weaker KHL.

Kunin was a good prospect. He was picked 16th, I think, and captained both the U 18 and WJC U20 team to Gold medals, as well as his NCAA team. Pretending that Marat is somehow better at this point in their respective careers is simply wrong.

Kunin was not my favorite prospect but he was a solid mid 1st round pick. Injuries have messed with his development, but he has played close to 300 NHL games. I think we have to see a lot more from Marat before we proclaim him a better prospect …Brennan Mennell scored 38 points in the KHL in 47 gp when he was 22-23, and a Defenseman.

I’ve got more faith in Khusnutdinov than Kunin. Kunin has stone hands and below average skating.

Something to wonder is has Minnesota had ANY discussions with Khusnutdinov since his extension on bringing him over? I don't think Joe or Russo has commented on that at all, and I'm a bit nervous that there hasn't been any discussions with him. I mean even with Kap they were talking with him 3 years before he came over.

Only speculating, but given how difficult it was getting Kaprizov over here, my bet is that there have been behind-the-scenes discussions between the Wild and Khusnutdinov and his reps.

Might be something to talk with Russo about. Like does Khusnutdinov have a North American agent? Is there any indication he wants to come over?

I would guess that playing with Kap himself would be attractive for any Russian, to a lesser extent Yurov, and of course, NHL money ends up being far bigger if you are any good.

Alternatively, is there any reason to worry about an entirely different front office to repeat Fletcher's mistakes?

hi wild fans! curious about the wheeler rankings since it's you and us for top 2. what are your top prospects and how would you rank em? is it:

wallstedt
rossi
faber
khusnutdinov
yurov
lambos

wondering mostly about who else makes your prospect pool so good

Here's how they were voted in the summer for what it's worth...

I’d personally put Yurov ahead of MK, and maybe Faber. But depth is what makes our pool good. (The mobile isn’t great so it erased wallstedt)

I’m a big fan of Faber, you hit it on the head for depth, Spacek, Milne, Bankier, nesterenko, Masters all didn’t make our top 20, there are going to be a couple of NHLers in that batch I bet.

Beyond the guys you mentioned they have legit NHL prospects of varying levels in Ohgren, O'Rourke, Beckman, and Hunt. On top of that there are a lot of more unknown quality guys like Peart, Haight, Petrovsky, Spacek, Milne, Masters and probably more I'm not thinking of which probably end up with a few career NHL guys between them.

The high end I think falls behind NJ, but the depth is obscene. And Wheeler has always been super high on Rossi so probably rates him higher than even a lot of Wild fans.

Agreed, it's definitely depth that defines our pool. Our vote stopped at 20, but we have NHL players coming beyond 20 as well.

Walker was never in the discussion. Now it's clear he's coming to the NHL as soon as next season. Played well in his cup of coffee this season already... many here didn't want him sent back down.

Not really sure. I like a lot of the players well enough, but #2 seems pretty high to me.

i might agree there - we have a few heavy hitter prospects in holtz, hughes, nemec, mukhamadulin, and gritsyuk, but agree there could be more quantity on your end. either way, top 2 for both of us isn't too bad at all :)

I get we have depth, but I don't see the high end guys in our system like some other teams. I'd prefer having less depth and more A tier or blue chip pieces.

it makes sense though given where we’ve drafted. Can’t have all blue chips if we’re consistently picking in the middle of the draft.

While I was in the camp that we lacked high end guys - I am starting to turn a corner on that - Wallstedt is one of, if not, the best goalie prospect in the world. I think Rossi is still a top six potential player and when Yurov was drafted, he was a talked about as a prospect with top 10 skills but drops down due to Russian factor.

Add in the the great depth and some wild cards in Haight, Khusnutdinov, Ohgren, Peart, Spacek, and Lambos (though I think I'm probably lower on Lambos than most). It raises my optimism.

That ranking was in the summer. Faber is now ahead of Lambos, and players like Bankier, Spacek, Masters, and Walker( if he is eligible) have come out of nowhere to leapfrog others due to their performance since the rankings were done. Even Petrovsky showed well in the WJC’s compared to the best in his age group ( sort of).

Yeah that's the frustrating part. I think we got lucky with Boldy, but even he was in the high teens. Yurov could be another lucky one, I hope.

Wallstedt I have as the #1 goalie prospect, I would consider him to be our only blue chipper. Yurov I think has the highest potential, but I wouldn't call him a blue chipper. I'm excited about our guys but outside of Wallstedt and maybe Yurov I don't see the true star players that I'd want, ideally.

I would put us more in the 7-10 range probably. Maybe we have the deepest prospect pool in terms of the number of NHLers that will come from it, but like always it is very deficient in terms of top of the lineup players.
