It's generally a safe opinion to have to be down on prospects, considering what the math usually ends up being. It's just also a lot less fun.

Big difference between AHL and NHL. He looked like a lost puppy in the NHL.
A young freshly turned 21 year old playing his first NHL games in one of the hardest position in the game and asked to produce in a top six role looking lost? But still a top producer on the Iowa team?

Really not seeing the issue here.

This just in. We have just learned that not all NHL prospects come into the league and set it on fire. Some, we have learned, even come back, and end up being good, if not excellent players later in their career. Tage Thompson was considered to be a bust as a 23 yo. Guy Lafleur was one of the most heralded #1 picks ever, and was picked over Marcel Dionne. He was considered mediocre in his first three years. JEE was a disappointment to many, and is now considered untouchable.
We could go on, and on.

Meanwhile, you have players like Cole Sillinger who come into the league and have a “ good three months”, as young rookies, only to disappear afterwards, and are stuck in this awkward limbo where the teams feel he is too good for the AHL, not good enough for the NHL.

Putting Rossi back in the AHL was the right thing to do. He is improving, month by month. I think he should get a few more games this year. He has earned it by his AHL play, and playing in the NHL will be a gauge for him on what more he needs to work on.

Exactly this , but it needs to be said. When you’ve got a good young potential top 6 player, you should do the exact opposite of what the morons behind our bench did with Rossi the first few games he got with the big club this year. Smallish top 10 pick talent with 1C upside should not be asked to grind it out with plugs for his first few games and then be scratched for no reason when he doesn’t immediately adapt to that role. That is stupid on a level only Billy and the cop could execute it and think it a sound strategy.

I feel however they would have handled Rossi you would complain.

Rossi played up and down the line up. He didn’t do anything that convinced anybody he should be gifted top 6 time. In the Limited time he did, he looked lost.

Looks like Yurov is now back to MHL.

Should be good for his development to get some steady minutes again, even if it's against junior opponents. 2+2 in his first 2 GP back, averaging about 20 mins of TOI.
I think them moving him down to the MHL could be indicative of him choosing to not sign an extension in Russia.

As much as it hurts, you have to give credit where credit is due. Dean gave him a chance with talented players, within reason, Guerin gave him his shot, then made the decision that he wasn’t ready. Army has him playing with the best players, and is not only on the #1PP, but also the PK.

Just looking it at face value, I don't read much of anything into it. It just seems like a normal move with a young, bottom of the roster player. He's essentially the pressbox FWD with his KHL team most nights, so time to get him some bigger minutes in a lesser league. Plus I have no idea what other roster things happened in the same time (injuries, trades, different callup, etc).

The KHL is notorious about limiting ice time to pressure their players into an extension, which is why I think they’re giving up on the idea of him staying in Russia.

How was he handled his first 5 games? Look back to last summer if you like on how I expected him to be handled and what I considered the worst case scenario. I’ve been consistent on how stupid it would have been to do what they did well before they did it. It’s piss poor asset management and poor player development. I’m fine with Rossi in Iowa and I think he’s cooking nicely. When the morons in charge try to turn him into a grinder and then scratch him in his first handful of games it’s worth calling out. Especially when we had absolute glaring holes where his perceived skill set would have been needed

It's a valid point. Bill has said before that they wanna put guys in positions to succeed if they're gonna be here. I don't know if Dean feels differently, but Addison has been on PP1, Beckman is on the second line and PP2 right now (although he was on the fourth line in his last stint).

If you're gonna have these kinda guys on the team, you gotta put them in offensive roles. Putting Rossi on the fourth line to start the year made zero sense, and clearly didn't help anyone. Then scratching him in his third game because the square peg didn't fit into the round hole is just asinine. I get that Hartman had a good year last year and deserved to start next to Kaprizov, but Gaudreau is clearly not a top six center in any capacity, and had no business being on that second line. It was just poor coaching, inconsistent with what Guerin has stated publicly about their philosophy when dealing with these types of players.

But some people here can't handle reading that type of valid criticism, so they just call it complaining. What can ya do.

What’s even pissed me off worse is these kids have no idea why they are being scratched or what they did. Hell even Dumba sounded like nothing was communicated to him when he sat. It’s that type of shit that can’t happen on a functional team

i can’t help but feel that Beckman has beeen labeled as “good in the room”, and will get chances to succeed whether he deserves it or not.

It was mentioned many time in his 1st preseason with MN. That might be the separator for Beckman to be picked over others when it's a tossup on who to callup for the near term. He needs to show something in the NHL before he's uses up those chances.

I think Milne will get the same label if he progresses in his game.

Regardless of why it happens, I would rather see someone like Beckman get chances to succeed whether he deserves it or not than guys like Deslauriers, Reaves, Middleton, Merrill, etc

I’ve got SKAs game on while I neglect working. Wanted to wait a bit longer to post this but it’s been on my mind in my last few viewings of Khusnutdinov. I think he’s got a chance to be a star in the NHL. He doesn’t have the scoring prowess of Kaprizov, but he’s a great distibutor/skater/play driver. I think he could end up being a home run. He’s doing things you just don’t see 20yos do in the KHL. 2 more assists in his first game back from injury.

I think he’s better than Rossi from the limited viewings I have had of each. Wouldn’t surprise me if he is our “TDL acquisition” next year and they slot him between Kap and Zucc to mentor/make the transition easier.

Does the KHL season end that much earlier than the NHL? Or am I missing something?
