7-10 days from now when Vegas has demolished them, they’ll be in the same spot as us.

At least we have talent on our roster. Price is their team.

Where the Leafs are, as hard as it is to say. The reason being? Because the Habs wont get past Vegas, there wont be any moral victories here because they'll miss the playoffs next year while wasting a year of Price and Weber by not trading them sooner than they will. That will set back their franchise similar to how the Leafs did under Burke and Nonis. Making the playoffs this year will have a similar effect to when the Leafs made the playoffs in 2013, management will think they have a better team than they actually do and will try to make a push for the playoffs and potentially get locked into bad contracts they can't really afford to give
If the Habs are gone two weeks from now, I would agree. I'd certainly bet on Vegas. But at this very moment right now, I'd still rather be alive and in the hunt.

Yeah, that's having things both ways. Sue me!

I understand what you're saying believe me, I'd love to be in the conference finals too, buts its superficial because of the playoff format and shortened season. I never want to go back to thinking we're better than we are and miss the playoffs and not understand why. There's a good chance they burn some talented young players like we did , at least in hind sight, it worked out for us in the long run by drafting the big 3 but we also had to trade for a goalie , which pushed our rebuild much faster

I took last year off completely for the 1st time in my life. I didn't watch any games. You can call me when Dubas is gone. Woke ass MLSE doesn't help.

No fans in the seats and the condensed schedule turned me off until playoffs. I barely caught any regular season games. It just felt weird I dunno.

Next season and playoffs I'll be watching and praying for the end of this curse. Another 1st round exit and I might be where some of you are.

I'm 50 I've been a leaf fan my whole life. Unless there's changes to management or the core next season I won't watch. Where are you at?

I can say I am done with them but as soon as they do anything remotely positive that will suck me back in. To bring back this coach and management team and keep the big 4 would be a major fail IMO. What is supposed to generate change when all you do is polish the edges of this turd?
  • If they play JT and Willie a lot more
  • If two of Semyonov, Engvall and Mikheyev produce over 30 pts
  • If they move Kerf and bring in an actual #3c who can manage over 30pts
  • If they trade Reilly and end up with a younger and cheaper legit top 4 LD
  • If any of Sandin, Robertson, or Dermott have an impactful season
  • If they sign Hyman for peanuts or bring in a replacement for current Hyman money
  • If nobody else regresses
None of the above are stretches at all but it seems like if this club is to contend they kind of need to have most of this stuff happen. The "Shanaplan" was apparently to suck for a while and accumulate star players who would impose their will on the league and win based on out skilling the other clubs without needing a talented coach or a balanced lineup. But then when they lose, talk about improving the club by the current lineup simply getting better rather than constructing an actual winning lineup. He's not an moron, because that word is not allowed any more, but can I call the guy dense?

Anyways I am honestly trying to avoid jumping back into or steering threads that demand this or that a-hole get shot into the sun. I will follow the club cause that's what we do, but please god, give us at least 6 of the 7 bullets above.

If it's the status quo and the core stays the same and it's the same management team - my interest level will be like a 2/10. If the team doesn't give a shit, why should the fans.

I can't say my interest level will be low when I've gone into seasons being super pumped at the idea of a washed Eric Lindros or how a super trio of Bozak, Stalberg and Hanson will do in the past. But I don't think it will be positive engagement if the offseason unfolds like the season ending press conference suggests.

I'll watch the same way I've watched for years.
Get together with friends for the Saturday night game. Watch the first period of the weeknight games and see if they've decided to play or not, skip anything that begins at 9:00 or later.

The regular season will be more interesting next season as there won't be the 3 straight games against the same teams over and over, and a playoff spot is not guaranteed, so there should be a lot more games with something at stake.

I will watch every game. The bitter sweet aspect of the Leafs is that, aside from the Avs and maybe Oilers, they are the most entertaining team for 7 months of the year. The wheels fall off the cart come playoffs, but they are a complete joy during the regular season. I will watch, get sucked in completely, and convince myself this is the year they finally make a serious run. That said, if there's another early playoff exit next year, the 2022-23 team will be completely different, as well as the coach and parts of management IMO.

They'll make some changes, get us all excited and rope us in again, probably finish top 3 in the conference, and then lose in the 1st round again. f*** this team

Idk. I think I’ll hate them a little bit and be far more cynical. But I always fall back into sunshine and rainbows eventually. Hard to tell without knowing what the offseason will hold.

And honestly, I absolutely love watching Matthews score goals. That alone should have me tuning in.

At the end, I’ll probably miss a fair few more games than I usually do. But I’ll still be watching.

If they find the proper balance from top-to-bottom, it will be quite high honestly.

I'm not going to pretend that the Leafs lost for any reason other than their stars going cold, but I think they over-corrected with washed veterans and defensive-minded depth with little offensive impact.

I'm going to assume that Matthews and Marner will show up, and if the team is well-built beneath them and still fails, then there will truly be significant chance from there. I think next year's team should be even stronger (on paper at least), so the intrigue will be be high for me, as well as knowing that it is getting closer to being a last chance for certain members of the organization.

Until we see them win a playoff series the regular season means nothing. Even if they win the presidents trophy and Matthews wins another Rocket and Marner wins the Art Ross it won’t mean shit, all we will hear is “ya well they can’t do anything when it matters”.

This!!!
