I’m interested to see what kind of team Dubas builds going into next year. Not at all interested in the regular season because I’m assuming they finish 2-3 in the division and probably play Boston. The interesting storyline about next year is that this the last chance for this core. If they lose 1st round (or worse miss the playoffs) there will be massive changes. The cores saving grace is that Tavares went down, and most people would agree they beat the Habs comfortably despite the Leafs being kind of a spineless team

I'm really frustrated because that was the precise same thing everybody said after the Columbus series. I'm starting to learn that that's what will ALWAYS be said, no matter how long such humiliations occur. Matthews and Marner could still lose in the first round when they're in their late 30's and everyone will say "last chance for the core next year".

I really hope you’re not right because I don’t find this core likeable at all. They will have to change the mind of almost Leaf fan in next years playoffs. The fallout after this years loss was louder than years past and the frustration is mounting, it’ll be interesting

Lets not kid ourselves-every one who is an active member on this forum will be an active viewer next season.
I agree. I will. I’ve been watching hockey my entire life. That won’t change.

The question is, does anything next regular season matter?

We could get 120 pts, see Matthews
/Marner win Rockets, Ross’ and Hart’s and it wouldn’t mean a thing to me until game 1 of the playoffs.

I don't think so anymore. people have had enough
Seems like management is more concerned about making people happy (Mitch's contract, the 'A', playing with AM, top PP minutes, Thornton playing every game and on the PP etc)

Real hard and juicy sire. Of course it is. Always, like the italians sesay sire.

I'ma toronto maple leafs fan, for life sezire. AND WE BOUT THAT MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There’s some truth to that, but even this season I noticed I watched less hockey than previous years, because at this point it is playoff wins or bust. I really do think the discontent towards this core is at an all time high, and will unquestionably boil over without a strong playoff performance next year.

I'm 50 I've been a leaf fan my whole life. Unless there's changes to management or the core next season I won't watch. Where are you at?
I am taking a sabbatical from team for a year .. time to make some $$$ from my tickets next year assuming everything is a go again .. but who knows if and when next season occurs

Still interested but not nearly as much. I probably won't watch all the games. I have seen almost every game since about 2006, maybe missed a total of 10 in that span. If it's a full 82 game season, I'll prob watch maybe 40 ish. If they win I'll be happy, if they lose I won't care too much. That die hard feeling just isn't there anymore.

I see people on here talking about being a fan as if it is like being a patron of a business and looking to leave because the service has been poor. But it doesn't work that way, at least not for me.

To me, being a fan is more like the relationship you have with your family. There are good times, bad times, and sometimes really bad times. But you stay with it because it's about love.

I always say what you said and then end up looking forward to opening night every time. I hope Dubas can man up and make some big moves to make it interesting

I am a Toronto Maple Leafs addict and will watch every game no matter what. 3/4 of my cloths are leaf, I’ve got leafs bathroom, bedroom, basement, vehicle, like most of us do, all their crap. This was probably the biggest disappointment I felt as a leaf fan but I have felt so many that I’m quite used to it. When the weather turns cold again my life will be dedicate to the leafs again like it has for over 40 years, I can’t help it unfortunately
no pajamas? :sarcasm:

this might be the most eloquent post I've ever read on this board.......

My interest is directly proportional to the volume of changes made to the team in the off season.

Same team = no interest. Why? Quite frankly I don't like most of the players on the team including Marner and Matthews AND more importantly we know they won't succeed in the playoffs.

At a minimum they need to change the coaching staff. Beyond that they should trade one of the core 4 players. i.e. Marner or Nylander. Preferably Marner.

There is enough cap space to bring in a Seth Jones if they go cheap on a backup goalie and don't re-sign Zach Hyman.

However Kerfoot is likely lost to expansion so they will be desperate for forward depth.

They don’t love you back.

I’m 60. Started following them in the ‘70s. Right now I have zero interest in watching any regular season games. Will need to see what happens in the playoffs. I’m sick and tired of watching them do so well in the regular season, and then shit the bed in the playoffs.
