I mean they were awful from 05 > 14, before Shanahan came this team was considered a joke by anyone other than leaf fans

If you made it through that, then you should be fine going forward

I feel like that was different though. Just like in the 80’s when I became a fan, those teams were awful, but they were so obviously bad that there was a sort of pride in stubbornly supporting them no matter what.
What happened this year was the first time as a fan that I felt genuinely made a fool of.

I'll believe all those who say they don't care come the first GD and PG threads. The Leafs win, quite as a church mouse, they lose and 'unleash the hounds'.

I was 5 when the Leafs won in ‘67. Don’t remember much other than B&W television and my dad and uncles jumping around. I hope to see them hoist another cup in my lifetime so will continue to watch and cheer for them.
I was seven.

The thing is, it was no big deal because at that age we thought they were supposed to win every year. We kind of knew that Bobby Hull was a good player, but we kinda thought it would be the Leafs and Canadiens -- [Hey Mom, did you know they spell Canadian wrong on purpose?] -- every year. Then Bobby Orr came along and that changed everything.

My best friend's Mother intervened to ensure he could always be the Toronto Maple Leafs in our many table-hockey games in Southwestern Manitoba because his cousin -- I never knew which one -- played for the Leafs. I think in fact he probably played two games or something as the backup goaltender, but whatever it was was more than celebrity status-worthy.

Since then, anyone who continued to watch through the Harold Ballard -- Punch Imlach -- Floyd Smith -- John Brophy -- John Kordic -- Martin Marincin eras isn't likely to go cold turkey now.

It would be like that two-pack a day addict finally keeping the vow to one day give up smoking.

See ya all next year, chaps.

I'm tired of Lou (notice how despite his age we fondly use his first name) and Kyle (vice versa) bashing on both sides -- I don't know why anyone has to be for one and against the other -- but I'll probably continue to hang around these tiresome chats just as enraged Leaf fans here will probably hang around to watch -- and criticize -- tiresome Leaf games still.

If not, then maybe the tiresome Dubas-bashing will diminish, that that won't be missed.

Well, for an 85 year championship drought, you'd have to be born in the right century to finally enjoy...
As they used to say about the Cubs, "Anyone could have a bad century!" In the case of the Leafs, a bad half-century . . . and counting!

No matter how good they may look in the regular season, don't be fooled again.

Personally, I'll start to believe in this group the second they get past the second round. Looking at the how strong the Atlantic will likely be next season, that will imply they beat at least one very good hockey team when it counted.

The regular season is going to be boring. They already finished first in the North and choked. Even finishing 1st in the Atlantic won't mean much.

I'd prefer to skip to the 1st round and see if they can do it this time around.
They won't finish first again .
We are a top 20 team maybe .
Vegas will beat the Habs 4 straight .
The only player that will make a difference is Price.
The Canadian division wasn't that great.

I will PVR the games like I always do usually bypassing half the game untill they feel like playing.

In the playoffs They will end up playing Boston and lose.

Untill Keefe dubie and shanny are gone nothing will change.

I'm really frustrated because that was the precise same thing everybody said after the Columbus series. I'm starting to learn that that's what will ALWAYS be said, no matter how long such humiliations occur. Matthews and Marner could still lose in the first round when they're in their late 30's and everyone will say "last chance for the core next year".
Two weeks to flatten the curve.

I used to watch every single game.
Even stay up late for the 10:00 West games and drag my sorry behind to work the next day.

I will dial back and probably only watch once a week/Saturday night and start watching other teams a little more.

We will see. Depends on if Dubas and not NSYNC are still here.

I tend to watch a couple of games most nights, and seeing as how the Leafs only play twice (maybe three times some weeks) a week, that means I tend to catch a lot of the other teams games.

So, doubt if I'll change that routine much, but I think I'll invest a little more time and interest in following one or two underdogs who improve this year for an outlet and some additional entertainment.

And apparently that's what it's going to take b/c Shanny seems right on board the Dubas train....wreck
I think once you see Fans back in the building these guys are going to hear it loud and clear .... Lots of players/ Execs have been run out of Toronto ... These guys may be asking for trades when they get whats coming to them .

Definitely at an all time low in interest. Have already started to pick up some new hobbies and looking forward to that year round. I love hockey so i'll still probably catch highlights, but the regular season will be a bit of a blur for me. IF they make the playoffs, I might watch the first round a little but would have very low expectations. IF they somehow win, then I'll start to feel like its worth my time and energy a bit more. Only so long you can cheer for an organization that constantly losses and disappoints - this year for the first time, I actually feel a bit embarrassed to call myself a leaf fan. But my ties are just too deep to T.O so I'll not really be able to cheer for anyone else wholeheartedly.

They are still a fun team to watch in the regular season so i will watch 65-70 games. At this point, im just not expecting anything from them in the postseason. If they lose in the 1st round, get swept or dont even make the playoffs it really wouldn't matter to me.

This season had some excitement as they had a comparatively easier road (No Boston/Tampa/Carolina/NYI) but next season..

I'm 50 I've been a leaf fan my whole life. Unless there's changes to management or the core next season I won't watch. Where are you at?
I want to say I won't watch but I know I will. I'm still butt hurt and lashing out at how the season ended but after all is said and done, the leafs are my favorite soap opera.
