I'll believe all those who say they don't care come the first GD and PG threads. The Leafs win, quite as a church mouse, they lose and 'unleash the hounds'.

I don't know about that man. This off-season truly feels different.

At least in years past, there was some forms of optimism we could see going into the next season. But, after that 3-1 choke job to the likes of a team like the Habs? There's nothing to be optimistic about. Especially if Dubas and Shanny keep the status quo (Which is what it sounded like in that presser a couple of weeks ago)

Don’t watch any of the remaining playoff games. It’s rough and tough man hockey. It’s depressing…….we would get slaughtered against any of these American teams.
How did we get in such a crappy mess as this.
Because dubas was using our team and organization to change playoff hockey ..
He has ruined a great opportunity for us leaf fans to enjoy some exciting times .
There will never be a time in the near future where we will have hall of fame talent.
A wasted opportunity.

They jumped the gun on the rebuild .

Signing JT was the worst thing this organization ever did .

Imagine what we could have done with 11 million in cap space and the right GM and coach.

Wishful thinking now.

Also by dubas allowing our young stars Mathews , Marner and Nylander to get there money without accomplishing anything for ( playoff win ) , he created an intitlement group .

Now we are stuck with JT and going to have to trade Marner to build a team .

Only Toronto management could f*** this up.

Thank you Shany you were on cup winning teams, we all thought you were the one.

Nope

Once Dubas blew up the prospect pipeline I knew it would be impossible to build a winner with it's current big-4 cap spending structure. He's been throwing draft picks away like it's monopoly money. He's basically mortgaging the future to try and fix his mistakes AND save his job. The worst thing you can have is a GM on TILT. (Poker reference)

This will never end because his biggest mistake was spending ridiculous money on 4 players. So instead of having a pipeline of fast young studs to fill in the 3rd & 4th lines Dubas has to sign over-the-hill bums to league minimum contracts. Dubas just had to be the smartest guy in the NHL by doing what no other GM has even attempted to do. (I'm being facetious)

From the very beginning of the rebuild I wanted them to keep the prospect line full and steady. Because of the salary cap you can't keep every good player once their deal is up so having blue chip prospects to fill their spot in the lineup is important. I wanted a 10 year run with Matthews et al but the Leafs stupid GM gave him a stunning 5-year deal. That's one of the many f-up's this guy has done which has lead to our current predicament.

So I think this mess is impossible to fix next season (or the year after) if a Stanley Cup is the target. They have to break up the big 4 and get back to relying on the draft and SMART trades. I don't think this current management group is capable of turning this around.

I agree dubas has to pucker his ass every off-season trying to augment tge core thsy just won't play playoff hockey
He should be re signing Hyman

I will no longer be subscribing to Game Centre Live so I can watch every game. It's not worth it. I will watch HNIC every now and then just to check in. I will never stop caring about this team but they've lost my trust until they prove otherwise. Being a fan should be fun and it's not.

I can’t wait to see that little puke Marner come back and continue the same pattern of hotdogging his way through the season when it’s easy for him with 100 points and then playing like he did this year in the playoffs. After all, he said at the end of year conference he wasn’t going to change anything in his preparation for the season. So, if you liked this season, you’ll watch the same shit again. By far, my most hated player in Leafs history. Yup, more than Lebda and Aki Berg.

No interest in the upcoming season if they come back with the status quo core and status quo management.

Even a President's Trophy wouldn't do it.

Every press conference. Every "hype promo" on TSN/Sportsnet. Every Interview.

ALL of it will be met with "yeah but wait for the playoffs...."

I'm tired of them. I don't really like them. And by them I mean almost all of them.

Depends entirely on their moves this off-season, and yes there are ways to make the team better without firing anyone or trading one of the big 4.

It is looking more and more likely that Dubas has royally F'kd up and we'll keep getting worse and worse in the next few seasons.
Ownership would be wise to cut loose from Shanahan/Dubas/Keefe as soon as possible but that won't happen - MLSE has become an exercise in money printing and political agenda propaganda pushing. The hockey management group fits their bill, checks all the boxes.

No. If that were the case then Burke would still be GM. MLSE owns the TFC/Raptors, and the TFC/Raptors won a championship. The same interest in winning goes for the Leafs. The problem is that building a winning hockey team is difficult.

I'm extremely interested to see how this plays out in terms of moves and most importantly getting back to the Atlantic and play all the teams again.

I struggled at times with this weak North Div and playing the same teams over and over again, and is was probably one of my least favourable season in last 50 years.

This is my level of interest actually. Are they going to go to the well again, or are they going to make bold moves?

Don't really disagree with much of anything there. I'd add that corporations don't really care about any of the current trends in political propaganda other than they care about not becoming a target of it. It serves zero purpose for the hockey management to embrace any of that stuff in an operational sense, it's utterly counterproductive competitively. My point is that it's completely unnecessary to have the general manager of your hockey team talking about the emperor's new clothes, that stuff should be handled by the organization's pr and hr drones.

Couldn't agree more. I think we'll do fine in the regular season and be able to compete with Tampa/Boston/Florida there, but nothing matters with this team until the playoffs. What's kind of funny is I either see Montreal missing the playoffs next year or being the 2nd wildcard team, the North Division was terrible.

My interest is still the same, I watch majority of the their games whether they suck or not. My belief in the team has taken a massive hit though, although I didn't believe we had the team to win a cup, I thought we should have won the North. We gave the Habs bragging rights for like the next 20 years unless we ever end up winning...

It's a professional sports trope as old as time. Once a contracted general manager is failing at his job, he has no motivation to make farther reaching moves because they serve no purpose in saving his plan and more importantly his position and legacy. This usually begets more and more desperate decisions usually culminating in selling off potentially valuable future assets like 1st round picks of indeterminate value and top prospects. And the assets they acquire with these future assets are usually short term fixes and often designed to appeal to the populace (think of Fletcher re-acquiring Wendel Clark, Gregory acquiring Dan Maloney).

This is why you fire GMs as the failure is starting not later. Lameduck GMs get desperate and dangerous to the future fortunes of the franchise.

I really really hope I'm wrong but look out this summer for Dubas dealing either the 2022 or 2023 1st round pick plus some of Sandin, Robertson and Abramov.

my interest level never changes and after roughly 50 years of being a Leaf fan i'm used to disappointment

also i didn't any faith in Dubas when they hired him and unfortunately he's proving me right , surprised so many people believed in him since it was very evident from the beginning he was just a clueless self promoting poser

Beware the leader who doesn't recognize his own intellectual limitations. I think that applies to both Dubas and Shanahan.

Absolutely none.
It's wild, because I was more excited this past season for any in more than a decade. But the Montreal series was what finally broke me. Maybe it'll change in the Fall, but I have zero interest at this point. I haven't even followed trade rumors, draft talk, etc.
