Our GM instructed his team to wear political t-shirts following a certain event and openly disparaged the singular skin colour of the team in the media.
He's a divisive idiot in that sense and should not be forcing his own political views on his team or fanbase. Period.
I'm sure most players are too clueless to have an actual informed opinion about world events, most don't care probably, but you put anyone on your team who is in disagreement with the GM's ideology in an uncomfortable situation with these behavioural edicts.

WTF are you on about?

I heard an interesting take on this the other day. The open support for these movements by Wonder bread urban professionals and intelligentsia is about pure unadulterated fear for losing their status. They know what they're doing. It's a desperate deflection of the wrath to the people who look like them but have zero power, no status and no prospects for upward mobility. A deflection to the people who themselves are a few generations away from indentured labour, debtor's prison, subsistence farming, being war fodder, etc. and who today persist on retail jobs and other temporary work with increasing levels of drug abuse, despair and suicide.

Absolutely none.
It's wild, because I was more excited this past season for any in more than a decade. But the Montreal series was what finally broke me. Maybe it'll change in the Fall, but I have zero interest at this point. I haven't even followed trade rumors, draft talk, etc.

I honestly don't know what would be the point to watch regular season. I mean we have been through plenty of good regular season
They'll look good, score fancy goals but it won't be until the playoffs will I remotely get interested

Seizing opporutinty is a trait of a good team. This was an opportunity they let slip it up. This would have been a good confidence builder both for team and self. This would have been a chance to for some players to get a better contract(historically teams that goes further their FA players get better contracts)

This would have been a good way to Matthews to solidify himself as a star in this league, not a pretender. Unless he can prove otherwise, he's just a pretender as I see it

Keefe could have been a hero in this city. Instead, if Keefe losses his job here, he may not get another one. See Nonis and JFJ

Wasted opportunity in so many fronts

I couldn't agree more with this - just look at the current US administration's policy to do exactly this to those who oppose it - who they claim is the "biggest, single threat'.
From a Kyle Dubas position, one would hope for someone to display and apply actual intelligence over fearful virtue signalling. Reveals to me he's a poseur - the boy wonder just isn't that bright. There's a few NHL GM's on record who claim the same thing.

Dont kid yourselves. We will all be back here following every little detail involving the leafs.

Anyone saying otherwise is lying to themselves.

I wouldn't say that. I definitely won't be watching in the Fall. Come playoff time, absolutely. But we know what this team is, and frankly it feels like a bit of a waste of time to watch them in the regular season at this point. I know some fans in here are more diehard than I am though, and I've never been one to sit through all 82 games in a season.

We're gonna be a bottom 3 team next year in the Atlantic Division. Lightning, Bruins, Panthers are all locks to finish ahead of us. Habs and Sens will most likely outperform us too. We're gonna be competing with Detroit and Buffalo for last in the division.

It’s so true.

Return? Most people are still slaves. Slave to their mortgage and monthly bills, slave to the crappy job they can't leave, slave to the government for 40% of the year, slave to their personal vices, slave to their ideologies.

Oh my.

Dude calls not being homophobic a "political event"

Let's not defend that nonsense in any way shape or form. The Leafs stand for equity and inclusion.

I don't like many of them but I can respect that they take that position... despite how it makes bigots feel.

None of them really do. If they really did, the little rich white girls and boys who populate the offices of MLSE would give up their jobs for the people they claim to care about. They could also give up their downtown condos and move to Scarborough and live in a mixed wealth neighbourhood. It's all social signalling by privileged people.

This exactly. The game 7 effort was the icing on the cake

No. the Pride Parade arose out of the Stonewall Riots and is meant to show support.

To want the Leafs to stay out of a Pride event because it might offend a player supports discrimination. That by definition is homophobic.

You didn't say it. Numbnuts said it in his post that I responded to. You just seem to want to line up with him and confuse the issue.

Have a second thought on this.

Barking up the wrong tree here. I remember the sadistic murder of the shoeshine boy by a pair of homosexual paedophiles in a Toronto bathhouse that caused moral outrage in the late 1970's. I consider pride a sin. I consider other things a sin as well. I consider promoting sexual content to children outright child abuse. There's a line between tolerance and promotion. And that line has been crossed.

I see... so you are cool with heterosexuality though? Even if there is a sadistic child killer who happens to be heterosexual? Because there are lots and lots of those.

Who one loves has absolutely nothing to do with being a child killer.

Absolute garbage man.

Keep reaching for that rainbow.

Stay away from any role that has you teaching children.

I'm sorry I'm not a member of your religion. Honestly I wish you well but I refuse to lie about this any longer. I think more people have to start drawing a line. What will we be told next to accept?

My grandparents thought Catholics and Protestants would all go to hell because they were fake Christians. Should I go back to that?
