I'm not a sky is falling kind of guy, but after so many first round exits something has to give, even the depth we got this year, we still get bounced by the worst team in the playoffs?

It would be very Leafs for nothing to change so thats what i voted for, but it has to be getting obvious something needs to give.

Definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, and I'd say right now they are about to put a straight jacket on us.

I really wanted this team and core to succeed, but more and more it's looking like they just don't have what it takes, and it hurts me to say that, I'd live for them to prove me wrong and win a cup next season, but i don't see it happening.

Also. Still angry. So. Thanks for making that new Amazon documentary unwatchable boys, i was really looking forward to that and you can't even win a god damn round.

F*ck you.

no changes are possible when you have 5 players eating up 50 million. Team is screwed for next year.

Find energy players like Kuraly, Accari, Cizikas, Clutterbuck to play on your 4th line. You are not winning anything in the playoffs with the garbage we have on our bottom 6.

Thornton 1 point, Simmonds 1 point, Foligno 1 point, Mikheyev 0 points, Engvall 1 point.

The only bottom 6 depth that actually played well was Spezza. Not sure if youre being sarcastic but the depth was pathetic.

I don't get how people can say we were deep, a month ago at work I people the problem is we have too many useless or old/worn out guys and I was talking mainly about Mikheyev, Engvall, Simmonds, Thornton and Kerfoot. Now Kerfoot proved he can contribute but the rest did not do much.

The depth and so called grit was non existent. Its a failure of management, and I like many who were ok with the simmonds and Thornton signings originally, hope we replace them with actual gritty players or players with size who want to initiate contact.

Go get Eichel Dubas. This is your chance to add a Franchise Center that’s never on the market and we should have the key piece to get that done.

So you want all the cap to be spent on 5 players instead of 4? That seems like a brilliant idea going into a playoff series.

This team lacks cojones.
On paper, we had all the tools to make a deep PO run. On ice, we choked. Hard. Again!
I honestly believe this is a mental/attitude issue. Our stars layed a huge egg (bar Willy) and we overall just layed down and died. Again!
Injuries are not an excuse. We lacked the willpower and testituclar fortitude to win a single game after a 3-1 lead in the series.
Utterly unacceptable.

We are 10 ply.

Trade Marner and recoup assets and then reuse the cap space for some good depth. Let Thornton and Simmonds go. Sign players that can forecheck, play defense, and hit. All-round players.
Coleman would be a good add. I would be all for a marner trade for tkachuk + or eichel or Jones ++ I just dont know what changed for marner to perform. He plays scared and nervous. I just dont knowing he'll ever be a gilmour, st louis, theo fleury or kane type playoff beast.

Skill is Important. But it just seems to evaporate in the playoffs with this guy. The evidence of his nervousness was the puck over glass penalty.

I'll always cheer for this team. I have for over 30 years. Guess I'm just a masochist.

Who stays and who goes is gonna be determined by which UFA(s) you can sign. For example, signing Hamilton probably means Holl or Bogo and Rielly are gone.

They don’t want it bad enough or aren’t prepared to do what it takes to win when the pressure’s on. Talent alone won’t do it. Their top players have no pushback and won’t respond to physical challenges. Matthews laughing when getting man handled and complaining to the ref is a joke. This isn’t house league. Trade some of the talent for players who play better when the games count. These stiffs have no clue what it takes to win big games.

Stay:
Matthews
Campbell
Hyman
Reilly (With a shooting coach)
Holl
Sandin
Muzzin
Nash (I see his value when healthy)
Spezza
Rittich (As a 3rd, I like his competitiveness)
Brodie
Nylander
Brooks
Tavares
Galchenyuk
Foligno (Would have to be a sweetheart deal, otherwise GO)

Go:
Marner
Kerfoot
Anderson
Thornton
Engvall
Mikheyev
Simmonds
Dermott
Hutton

In:
Need more guys willing to grind it out. Guys that aren't afraid to stand in front of the net and take a bit of a pounding to screen the goalie. Not stand on the side of the net and hope for a rebound that won't be coming. Need tough guys with skill. I would love a guy like Wilson but that won't be happening.

Lol at everyone who was in an uproar when Dubas only got 5 years and not 8 on the Matthews and Marner contracts

Sorry for lurking, but I can answer this. We added some grinders to our bottom six (Goodrow, Maroon, Coleman) that can really wear down the opposing team over a 7 game series while also contributing offense. We shored up our defensive depth to be 8 deep (Shattenkirk, Bogosian, Schenn were added to the mix). But really the biggest factor was just our star players stepping up and taking over. Point, Hedman, Kucherov, Palat, Vasilevskiy all brought something extra on that run.
That and no taxes, resulting in sweetheart deals.

Thornton 1 point, Simmonds 1 point, Foligno 1 point, Mikheyev 0 points, Engvall 1 point.

totally agree and i have no idea why people keep regurgitating how good our depth played when it's obvious they didn't

That's the answer I was looking for. Thank you.

Sometimes your star players need a wake up call and big changes aren't always needed.
The embarrassment of blowing a 3-1 series lead to your biggest historical rival when you were by far the favourite should be the wake up call, but there is too much shit that has happened in previous seasons. They have had their wake up call.

65, 15, 47, 97, 24, 19, 20, 71, 31, 33

11 and 55 stay for a team friendly number

16 or 88 and 44 and/or 3 should be shopped
