Enough of the old veterans that aren't effective like Thornton, Simmonds and Foligno. You can never have too much skill.

Malholtra has to go too.

I can't see a scenario where they 'win' a Marner trade, so I'm not sure about that one.

Nylander and spezza were imo the best forwards. Watching Campbell exit interview was brutal, he really blamed himself. This guy did everything we asked and more. The fact that we lost a series while jack posted a ga of 1.81 and a sv%932 just screems this is on the forwards.

It's hard to say, the forwards didn't score but the coach didn't change their game plan, it was always rinse wash repeat with him. For example in Game 5 and 6, when we were losing, I would have sent out my heavy players to pound hit and yes injure some of Montreal's top 4 D, every chance I had I would tell my guys to dump the puck in and pound them, every shot you take is at a foot or ankle of the opposing players. I feel like the team was a little to focused in winning todays game and not thinking about how to play the long game and win the series. Why was Simmonds, Hyman, Bogo, Mussin, Hall or any of the other "physical" players not sent to pound Danault? Whay was Danualt allowed to check Matthews freely with no repurcussions? In a Philly vs Pens series, Giroux was destroying Crosby on the face offs, so Crosby being super competitive was going for Giroux wrist, all by accident of course, later in the series Crosby started to dominate Giroux on the face off dot. It's stuff like this that I didn't see the Leafs do, they were a little too play with in the rules. They still don't understand to win a series you have to play playoff hockey, they are still playing regular season hockey. Playoffs is about a long game, regular season is about hat game you are playing today.

I fully understand how easy it is as a fan to sit back and think I know it all and I get how hard it must be to be a coach in Toronto but I do feel like the long game to win the series just didn't seem to be there.

A Marner trade is the single high leverage move that can change so much about this team. Cap structure, locker room dynamic, F group.

Dubas- he build a team that was the prohibitive favourite, and still went 7 despite JT going down, and M&M showing up in 1 of 7 games. Almost no team/GM is going to overcome that lack of performance from their top 3 players- and we could have with better roster decisions. That being said- his future should be in jeopardy if
A.- he's completely against making any change to the core
B. -he forced Keefe into playing Sandin over Dermott and/or Thornton over anyone

Keefe- See point B.

Dubas doesn't believe in that type of hockey.

Advanced stats guys. Unfortunately you don't win on paper. The things you mention don't always show up on their advanced stat sheets so they aren't what helps you win and just arent important anymore.

The decision to keep matthews and marner together the entire series no matter how unproductive they might be was made intentionally. Either they show they could bring it in the playoffs or they were going to be exposed as frauds.

Trading Marner is my preferred option for several reasons...
  • Proven that he's not a playoff performer
  • Too one-dimensional as an offensive threat to justify his salary
  • Moving him would free up needed cap space to address other deficiencies
  • I believe Matthews can still be dominant without an elite playmaker
  • I personally feel like Marner prioritized maximizing his contract (to the point of it being spiteful) and then failed to deliver on the ice

The offseason plan is simple.

separate Marner and Matthews for the season. They insist on playing together well f that. Put Nylander with Matthews on top line and Marner with Tavares on second line. Get rid of old guys who can’t skate. Thornton was worst player in the league this year yet finds a good spot on our top power play unit. Absolutely disgusting. Get rid of Simmonds. Maybe keep Spezza, but I’m thinking we get rid of him too because a drastic change is needed.

Trade Morgan Reilly. Use cap of him and Andersen to bring in Dougie Hamilton.

play all our kids. I’m talking Robertson Hallander Amirov

if we miss playoffs first year of injection of youth, so be it. At least they will try and that’s all I’m really asking for as a fan. I’m sick of watching overpaid players or players in twilight of careers who won’t pay the price. Need young speedy hard hitting bottom six players who pay the price.

Find energy players like Kuraly, Accari, Cizikas, Clutterbuck to play on your 4th line. You are not winning anything in the playoffs with the garbage we have on our bottom 6.

Don't think the problem was our bottom 6, its from our top line soaking minutes and doing nothing with it

Agreed but you can't compete with the remaining teams with a pathetic bottom 6 who virtually gives you nothing (no points, no energy no physicality). Who scored for the Isles in OT last night ?? Do you think any of our bottom 6 can score in OT? Good luck.

I notice all people forget about the garbage in our top six I agree with you it’s just a lame excuse to try to deflect the blame off the top six I live in reality too many Mapleleaf fans are still drinking the blue Kool-Aid So what’s the saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it so what do you do when it is broke you fix it

They don’t want it bad enough or aren’t prepared to do what it takes to win when the pressure’s on. Talent alone won’t do it. Their top players have no pushback and won’t respond to physical challenges. Matthews laughing when getting man handled and complaining to the ref is a joke. This isn’t house league. Trade some of the talent for players who play better when the games count. These stiffs have no clue what it takes to win big games.
You either have physicality in your DNA or you don't

People want to just blame this on Matthews, Marner, top 6 etc.

People are forgetting just how bad their defense is

Like I said in another thread:

Jack Campbell - Crying, blaming himself for the loss and letting his team down

Mitch Marner - States he had several chances, just didn't go in

The difference in leadership is unreal, Marner is our "A", get him out

What are people wanting for the goaltending tandem? Sign Reimer again to play in tandem with Campbell? ;)
