meier is the move ....... and should be the priority.
not only does he solve the 1LW problem this team has had for a decade but also buntings gets pushed down the lineup in a more appropriate role.
also from all the suggestions being put out, it wouldnt be a rental because hes an RFA at the end of the year. At that point depending on what he wants for money, you can trade him for assets or get creative

He will cost probably 8-9M to resign him

And you tell it hes rfa, what do you think he will cost? Probably something like knies+ 1st pick+ minten... personally im not ready to pay something like that for a guy leafs will not be able to keep next summer

Good player but seems like an easy pass, all things considered.

FWIW, I do believe Comtois could be available. I think he's a good buy low, complimentary big body, fairly physical LW. Wouldn't cost a great deal, and has shown an offensive flair. That's my first call, then maybe move on to 3C from there...

Could be kind of target i woukd like if the price is good

Plus a retained Henrique?

Nothing. The team is playing fine and frankly they need to prove they can win a playoff round before the team sinks even more assets into bolstering them for the playoffs. Have wasted way too many assets just to go out in 7 games.

II doubt it would be assets.without at least some term. If Muzzin deals with his injury and the cap space is available, it will be the first deadline he has had legitimate cap space. He could bolster the depth up front quite nicely,.move some players who don't fit the post season mold for those who do.

If he builds the third and fourth line properly, this team could cause headaches for the opposition. It must be done IMO and cap space is king.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner/Nylander
Puljujarvi - Tavares - Nylander/Marner
Knies - O'Reilly - Jarnkrok/Malgin
Engvall - Kampf - Zar/Malgin
Holmberg, Robertson

Gio - Holl
Rielly- Brodie
Sandin - Lily
Timmins, Mete, Benn

Murray
Samsonov
Woll

If Calgary tanks would love to see Chris Tanev in a Leafs uniform. I'm still sold on how great he paired with Rielly in that World Championship. He's exactly the piece to cement stability in the Leafs top four.

Rielly - Tanev
Gio - Brodie
Sandin - Liljegren

Jonathan Toews if we can get similar kind of deal than gio

I dont want to see leafs going to overpay player like ROR, meier or whatever and finally just be disappoint. Just making smart move and add some intensity and grit with player also able to contribute offensivly ( not kind of simmonds or clifford)

You said you wanted a player with intensity, Grit and that could provide offense while saying you didn't want ROR.

You do realize the player you described IS ROR right?

I'd be all for that, I doubt Calgary does it

But does Dubas know that?

I think he does, I just don't think he's found the right player.

I think that was the intent behind Ritchie, Simmonds, Clifford, Bunting to a lesser, I think Bunting was more about skill than grit but he still has it.

Just got to find the right guy.

The price for ROR will be extremely high if he become available and he would be probably #1 target with kane... i was telling i dont want to everpay for a 3rd c when you can have something really good at a cheaper price...

Get a lars Eller at 25-33% of ROR price for me is a better bet for what leafs really need, thats it

Just be smart

lars Eller
ROR has started the season slowly, but lately has come back to life.
He does not seem to be injury prone, and doesn't seem broken down the way Foligno obviously was.
I don't think Lars Eller is in the same universe as a player, either for offence, defence or grit. No Conn Smyth trophy either.
With Muzzin on LTIR, sending Kerfoot back should make the cap work.
Oh, and ROR shoots left, so you can always spot him up with Tavares on left wing.
I don't think there will be a better time to go for broke than now, and would spend the assets to get him.
Big if, IF St. Louis makes him available, I wouldn't count them out for a playoff run.

If we are facing Tampa or Boston we need Holl to be our 7.

We can add a winger but we can't count on these depth heroics at the big Dance.

A serviceable winger will be cheap but our big chips have to go to D.

Better overprepared than under.

1-Do you want to pay something like knies + 1st pick for 20 game of ROR and playoff? Yes Ror is more proven but his price will be much more higher unstead of paying something similar of a 2nd and SDA for an eller...

2-Since when you expecting your 3C line C to win a conn Smythe?!?!?!

This is the year… we have to go all in.

We have the goaltending… add some grease and grit.

I am legitimately curious what you guys think is our trade deadline priority. Think about it. We are what, 25 games in and the leafs have shown the following:

1) great goaltending but both got injured. Does that concern anyone?

2.) The offense hasn’t “clicked” like we have seen in the past and many talk about the bottom 6 being an offensive abyss.

3) The D recently has been good, but we have several injuries yet we are getting wins.

4) Toughness has been a concern for years, will that be the major issue come playoff time?

so though its been 25 games, this team has been a rollercoaster. What items is most pressing to address at the tdl? Top 6, bottom 6, the d pairings, goalies?
I truly believe we need a top 4 dman. Are Liljegren and Sandin ready to play top 4 minutes during the grind of what is hopefully a long playoff run? Giordano is playing huge minutes and has been a major factor in this recent run, but will he be able to play every other night once the playoffs start? Can Holl be trusted to play in the top 4 if Liljegren and Sandin aren’t ready? We know Rielly and Brodie are top 4, no doubt about that. So, to me, if Liljegren and Sandin are legitimate top 4, then we should be fine, but if not, someone needs to be brought in.

1. Absolutely. The point is to win the cup. He would help us achieve that. The whole point of our assets is to get us there. As they say in chess, checkmate leaves no weakness in its wake.
2. ROR has already won a Conn Smythe. He has proven he is a playoff performer. He will be a spectacular 3C, and amazing insurance if Matthews or Tavares get injured.

That’s not bad, but at 39, can Gio handle the grind of playoff hockey every other night?

I believe we need more scoring (playoff scoring) We need an overhaul of the 3rd line. Move Kampf down to 4th line.

I’m willing to use 44 as a chip on top of 1rst rounder and Knies.

We finally have the goal tending. It’s time to go ALL in.
