I truly believe we need a top 4 dman. Are Liljegren and Sandin ready to play top 4 minutes during the grind of what is hopefully a long playoff run? Giordano is playing huge minutes and has been a major factor in this recent run, but will he be able to play every other night once the playoffs start? Can Holl be trusted to play in the top 4 if Liljegren and Sandin aren’t ready? We know Rielly and Brodie are top 4, no doubt about that. So, to me, if Liljegren and Sandin are legitimate top 4, then we should be fine, but if not, someone needs to be brought in.
Agreed.

Defense wasn't much of a question for Boston at last year's deadline but they still went ahead and brought in Lindholm. I think the Leafs should do a similar move.

1. Absolutely. The point is to win the cup. He would help us achieve that. The whole point of our assets is to get us there. As they say in chess, checkmate leaves no weakness in its wake.
2. ROR has already won a Conn Smythe. He has proven he is a playoff performer. He will be a spectacular 3C, and amazing insurance if Matthews or Tavares get injured.

But are you sure than playing .. playing 15-16 minutes on a 3rd line pp2 and pk... if he able to have maybe 4 points unstead of 3, it will be huge... so im not sure if the difference of real impact are that huge to justify that kind of rental trade

Nick Paul is a great exemple, he cost praticly nothing but his impact as a 3rd line C was huge and probably as high than a claude giroux impact...

There is no predicting what will happen or what depth we may need.
I am absolutely sure in the worst case scenario of ROR playing 15 minutes and pk is worth it, and if we have an injury he is worth his weight in gold.
A 1st and Knies I would do in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't trade Knies for ROR. I would do a 1st, Neimela and like a 3rd or something. Really any prospect that isn't Knies.

That’s not bad, but at 39, can Gio handle the grind of playoff hockey every other night?
You can move that bottom four around, Muzzin could be used in the playoffs in a Kucherov type cap hack. Holl, Benn, Timmins as 7th defensemen options if Gio needs a break. Not the worst options.

And if still losing in 1st round with RORbat big price... how do you think we will talk about this trade? The same way than the foligno trade... Do you think florida talk about giroux and chiarot trade the same way right now than last trade deadline? It was sexy move yes but was not smart move

And Eller when caps won his cup and backstrom down, whos step up and raise his game? Everything you just telling for a 3rd line C, Eller already prove he can do it

When was the last time an elite player who get traded at trade deadline and really have a huge impact during playoff?

I am going to guess Jeff Carter or Hossa was the last time.

Coleman for Tampa but he is not elite

No. But that is not what you asked. He was the last elite plauer to be traded at the deadline

I know, it was just to compare with ROR because they think that will drastically raise chance of succes come playoff time...

When you try hard for homerun unstead just get a hit, when its working its amaizing but most of the time you will just be strikeout

Priority is dont do anything stupid. For me that would be taking on long term cap hits or trading future bang for buck players like Robertson/Knies.

But who will be battling with the forwards in front of our net? I don’t believe Muzzin will be coming back. That’s why I feel we need a punishing type dman, but not one who takes needless penalties.

I would NEVER trade Knies for ROR one for one let alone add a 1st rounder on top of that deal. The Leafs have been wanting a guy with size AND skill and now that we've drafted one and who also plays left wing you want to trade him away for just ROR? HELL NO!

Unless the player we got back was a true star player, I would NEVER trade Knies without seeing him play a bunch of games in the NHL with the Leafs and evaluating how he does before even remotely considering trading him. Its the same way I felt about Liljegren and seeing how well he's playing for us now, how dumb would it have been to have traded him without giving him a solid run with the Leafs and seeing how he did and instead watching him play well for another team?

I get that Leafs fans want to win NOW and at this time it looks like we're stronger than ever so adding to this group might be a good idea, but that doesn't mean we should move perhaps our best young prospect that could be a big part of this team for many years for a guy like ROR even if he is a good player.

Agreed Knies has to be untouchable. If anything if the price is too steep for a power forward, sign Knies and throw him on the 2nd line LW and see what happens in the playofds

If you can package Robertson do it he's hurt WAY to much

Robertson’s value is probably a little too low now with the injury. Better to hold on him now.

If if if if,,,,,, look, this is as good a team as we are going to have.
If you don't go in now, then you have blown the best chance to go for a cup.
Taylor Hall certainly helped Boston when they picked him up, I REALLY wanted the leafs to get him instead of that dud foligno. Chiarot is a baaaaad player, and florida had other issues.
Eller is no improvement over what we have.
You can keep all our pretty toys like Knies and never win a cup, or go all in.
I would go all in this year.
And all the Knies is untouchable talk makes me laugh. I want a cup.

If Liljegren and Sandin continue to play as well or even better than they have now getting near the trade deadline then why not just stick with the group we have? Trust them to get the job done along with the vets you have surrounding them.

Also assuming all our injured Dmen come back healthy soon with the exception of Muzzin who's questionable, where would you even play them all let alone adding another Dman to all the guys we have?

Rielly-Brodie
Gio-Holl
Sandin-Liljegren

With Benn, Timmins and Mete in reserve. You'd have to move out one or two guys to fit another Dman. I'm still in favor of trading Rielly, but seeing that will likely never happen then unless things drastically change I'm fine with the Dmen that we have now especially if Timmins continues to stay healthy and keeps playing well then maybe he's the Dman that can come in if someone starts playing bad or maybe he plays well enough to replace Holl as a regular. Guess we'll see as the season progresses what will happen.
