At this tournament or real tournament best on best?

Even for this one I don't think we have 5 teams that would be Gold Medal contenders. 3 or 4.

Sure because these are short tournaments, top teams (or even lesster teams) can beat each other in 1 elimination game, it still doesn't mean that Canada can't build around 5 top teams.

What?

Someone replied to post defending USAs play by saying Canada is full of stars. Another poster said it's our B team implying the Canadian team isn't very good. My post was that even our B team is extremely talented. We've got 1st line NHLers playing on the 4th line.

Still Canada isnt so superior in hockey... if you look at other sports such as Bandy there can you say its only 1 team or maybe two teams that have a realistic chans on wining gold in WC.

But Canada is the best countery in Hockey right now with their two straight Olympic gold medals, but i wouldent call them superior.
 
I was only able to see the game from the Jenner goal and on. Liked what I saw from Marchand (obviously). Duchene looked dangerous with his speed, and he must have been decent to receive player of the game. Looked like the game was in hand by the time I tuned in and both teams packed it in. This team will obviously need the forwards to be committed defensively.

It's a small point, but I hate the coaching decision to use the last PP as a time to play the guys that presumably saw little ice today. This is a short tournament, and the Canadian PP earlier in the period looked awful. That was a great practice opportunity for the top unit. No point wasting it on players who won't play the PP again in this tournament.
 
Stuck at work and didn't get to watch the game but...regarding Matthews:

He is an 18 year old who hasn't played an actual competitive game in almost 2 months and gets to start against a Canadian team full of really good NHL players. Did people expect him to come out and dominate?

He actually looked pretty good.
 
A strong start for Canada, even with some issues to work out.

Up next...sadistic slaughters of Hungary, Belarus and Germany.
 
USA had no chance in that game.. That was like AHL squad going up against a good NHL team. Honestly, Canada could compete for gold in the Olympics with this team.

I had McDavid to win the scoring title, but if im not mistaken he was on the 3rd or 4th line most of the time :cry::cry:

It's scary that Canada won the last Olympics and WHC as well.. If they're committed to winning this tournament year after year we could see them dominating for a few years until they let up a bit..

McDavid was on a line with Marchand and Duchene most of the time. I would call that the number 1 line.
 
Not looking at this game as the clear definitive answer as to what Matthews is going to be like. Chalk it up as a fun win over our biggest rival and move on. Game 1 of this tournament rarely means anything.
 
The criticism of Matthews in this thread is really off the mark and shows alot of people were not watching closely. He looked solid to me, made a bunch of smart plays, one really good defensive play. He played a smart, professional style game. I'd be encouraged watching him more than anything else.

Because people look at him as a savior. If somebody think that 18 old guy win WHC by himself, they must crazy. He is a bug talent but hype is too high about him....
 
Its too bad they wont play Stone with O'Rielly here the way they both steal pucks is incredible. Gallagher scored but didnt look great otherwise lots of turnovers. Dont understand the lines at all, they have guys playing out of position all over the place. One line has three righties another has 3 lefties. Ill just say its a Dave Cameron effect the guy is an idiot.

Was impressed with how well the young D moved the puck. Really liked the Murray Ceci pair and Tanev Rielly.

The Matthews criticisms are hilarious the guy is playing an NHL all star team with not alot of help. I thought he looked great considering the circumstances.
