Is Wideman swedish, because in finnish television his name is pronounced like he is swedish?

Aside from Leafs homers, I don't think anybody would say Matthews looks the part of a potential star NHL. Totally invisible. If the pressure of playing against Canada in the first game of the World Championships is too much for him, he is going to have a brutal time playing in Toronto.

Also, Maroon is really embarrassing himself out there. :shakehead

He has allowed 2 horrendous goals and a couple other goals he was off his angle. With a better goalie the score would absolutely be closer

Canada has controlled 80% of the play and the US have generated minimal chances. There is a good chance Canada scores on their multiple other chances with a different goalie in net.

I can think of maybe one goal that you can fault Kinkaid for the others were all terrible plays in front of him from the American skaters. Kinkaid wasn't good but there were plenty of others out there for the Americans who were as bad or worse, namely the whole defense group.

You are way off on Matthews, way off.

Matthews has looked extremely good.

The US had some good moments today. Canada is more talented, so them winning is to be expected, would have been nice to see how Demko would have done though. He should receive the majority of the starts going forward

I'm surprised they're not playing Demko. The last two times US teams did anything noteworthy in this tournament, they were carried in part by an extraordinary young goaltender.

What the hell is that? He looked good, he's 18, playing against Team Canada with full of stars.

It was nice to open against a weaker opponent who is also as disorganized as Canada always is to start these tournaments. Canada's sloppy play would have been more of a problem when playing against a European team that has been practicing together for weeks.

Canadians are still all like 'we could do better', when Canada beats USA 5 to 1.

To be fair, that's a US team comprised of college guys. Canada has NHLers all through the lineup. I thought Canada played well but was in no way dominant like the rosters might suggest.

This is a Canadian B team TBH

Lets not get crazy though.....this USA team is pretty pathetic.....anyone who looks even half decent is doing well

Not Hanifin's best performance today. Skjei was really the only defenseman that looked okay. Larkin and Matthews looked decent. Rest of the forwards aren't on their level and that's to be expected

Out of all the Team Canada rookies, most pleased with Murray. Although he played at this tourney before, his career got somewhat derailed by injuries. Good to see him climbing back up me LD depth chart.

Lots to work on for the rest of my compatriots.

Talbot looked good as well for his 1st taste of international action on any level.
