If so that will be solely because more people that don't know about hockey will be speaking up.

This isn't a shot at Laine but there is no way he is better than Matthews and even less of a reason he should be taken ahead of him.

Pour mois, Getzlaf no longer makes the grade, and even Stamkos ( since his leg injury ) has seen better days. Questioning our Brain Trust ( or lack thereof ) is, of course, par for the course...

What are you talking about? That score flattered the Americans.

With the amount of time the Canadians controlled the puck in the US zone if the score had been 10-0 that wouldn't have been a big surprise.

That young Yankee squad looks like it will struggle all tournament long. Apart from a few ok guys they looked brutal.

You must have been watching a different game :amazed: When score was 2-1 Yanks carried the play for long stretches, plus Jenner goal = gift

I guess so because the game I watched had most of the 2nd and 3rd periods looking like Canada was on a PP when it was 5 on 5.

If the Jenner goal was a gift there were 5-6 other chances that should have been sure goals. Especially the Perry chance that even I could have put in the net. :laugh:

Nothing special frankly, he's really quick and has good hands but wasn't too dangerous most of the time. Not sure if it's more him still adjusting to the big ice or rather lack of chemistry with his linemates.

Welcome to Canadian sports coverage, the caliber has plummeted since Rogers took the NHL contract. TSN has taken on the Toronto centric coverage that Rogers leads with all the time.

They should play him with Mark Stone, he has chemistry with everyone.
 
1.Mathews was not impactful and hardly special in his game BUT McDavid hardly was "generational" either...They were both OK but no outstanding and other pros stood out more...like Duchesne.

2.On the other hand Laine was very good and dangerous on numerous shifts..but he was not playing either Canada or the USA..so we shall see.But he gets his shots off and in today's game that alone is difference-making.
 
How was Larkin? He was gassed on the wings at around the 50-60 game mark and his play went down a bit. Wonder if some rest has helped him.

In this game? No one doubts that mcdavid is considered to be on a diff level. But he did nothing really this game. Matthews looked as good as most of the pros.
 
How did Canada's B team look today? Always enjoy hearing about how they'd destroy everybody. Extra style points when AINEC is declared.

Remember the first four games of the season where he seemed hesitant to take the puck and do his thing, and, instead, deferred to his line mates too much? Just like that. At some point he'll get the swagger back and start playing like he did down the stretch.
 
Hendricks is such puke hockey player. Trying to run at Matheson and Dumba from behind in the 3rd. Cross check to head in 3rd on Dumba because he got separated from puck cleanly. I have no time for that guy.
 
The score was bad...and my expectations were VERY low. But I feel optomistic about USA after today. Thought they hung in there ok today. Kincaid wasnt good. Matthews was ok. Larkin and Vatrano were good. Michigan line was ok. McCabe was not. I'm ok with this. We'll see.
 
The TSN highlights were greats. Matthews, Matthews, Matthews, Matthews, Matthews. :laugh::laugh:

That's funny because he said that he has a tenancy to sit back when he's coming into a new situation (in this case the Worlds) and hold back. Said he would try not to do that, but still ended up doing just that. He'll turn it on as this tournament progresses.

While watching the game, I was thinking about this. How many guys on this team will be on the World Cup team? How many guys NOT on this team wouldnt be the next 20 after the World Cup team? This does seem pretty clise to a B team for Canada.

I'm just being obtuse.

It's always a B team for Canada at the WHCs but we have so many players that it doesn't really matter.
