While watching the game, I was thinking about this. How many guys on this team will be on the World Cup team? How many guys NOT on this team wouldnt be the next 20 after the World Cup team? This does seem pretty clise to a B team for Canada.

Have you looked at the defence? The forwards are nearly at a B level, the goaltending a bit lower, the defence far from even that level.

Talbots a b level goalie for Canada after holtby and price canadas goaltending isn't that great

No doubt, but honestly, if they were building World Cup teams for Canada, i'm not even sure he makes the C team
idk talbot isn't proven yet but he put up decent stats on an awful oilers team and great stats in newyork.

Not being proven is def a problem I spose.

Before Talbot, I would take:

Price
Holtby
Crawford
Luongo
Jones
Fleury
Dubnyk
Mason
ETC ETC ETC

Crawford is probably underrated but he had a great team in front of him. Elliot is also in front of a team that makes it easy for goalies.

I like dubs but he had around the same save percentage as talbot playing for the oilers.

Fleury has choking issues(world juniors /playoffs) but when he's hot he's good. Loungo is getting old and also chokes sometimes.(Vancouver vs boston)

If talbot has another good year next year I don't think he's that far off from most of the guys you listed. Playing in front of the oilers defense won't help him tho.

Can't believe Ben Hutton got less ice time than Matheson.
Hutton was recently voted as the best dman of a NHL team. Your're telling me he's worse than a player who only had 3 NHL games in his belt?

Whoever voted for him in that poll is dumb. Tanev is a better defenseman than Hutton.

Luongo choked against boston, did he not score enough goals?

Just watched the pvr of Canada-US. What a frickin joke TSN is. Would they even broadcast this tournament if Matthews wasn't in it?

They even came up with a highlight package of Matthews game (I mean a lowlight package). Their summarization of the Canada 5-1 win was to say that "Austin Matthews can do it all". Except...that he didn't? They lost 5-1?

If that's the kind of doing it all results he'll be bringing to the Leafs, I'm 100% onboard with that. Kinda reminds of the Taylor Hall story. Man is the bar set low in Toronto.

Oh, and Rod Black? You're............still alive. Sort of?

Black is the main play-by-play guy for the CFL isn't he?

The best partiers were Hall, O'Reilly and Marchand. nice guys, drank lots, as much as I drank in university and were glued to the girls dancing. McDavid is a pleasant guy, he even chatted, gave us 5. (I'm assuming that means he chatted with them for 5 minutes) As for Perry, evident that he is the captain and senior guy for this group of kids, serious and intelligent, observing everything. Very nice guys, dressed casually in h&m and Nike. Marchand was the happiest of the bunch...and funniest of all, in 2 weeks they'll take the gold.

Sounds about right, especially about Marchand... legendary in Nova Scotia.

How'd McDavid look? Held pointless I see.

He looked like lots of good Canadian players look early on in this tournament, too much deference to teammates, too much respect to the opponent but he had moments of individual great play. I think once he realizes that he is much better than the guys he is playing against and that he doesn't have to pass to everyone else he will be fine. I would give him a C+/B-, didn't look bad but didn't assert himself enough.

How did Dumba look?

Hard to evaluate any of the d-men really since the US provided so little pressure. I thought he was alright. A few times he got beat but was able to recover because the US forwards weren't good enough. If he plays like he did today against the better teams I could see him taking a few penalties trying to recover and grabbing/hooking guys.

How was Larkin? He was gassed on the wings at around the 50-60 game mark and his play went down a bit. Wonder if some rest has helped him.

Best player for the US and it probably wasn't really that close with anyone else.

East Coasters know how to party the right way. Back in my university days had a couple of legendary weekends in Halifax, Antigonish and of course on George St. in St. John's.

Why is TSN.ca always shoving Austin Mathews down our throats?

Because he is the projected #1 pick on a USA team that frankly doesn't have much to talk about . Crazy how bad and inexperienced that US roster is. It doesn't hurt that the Leafs won the #1 Draft selection too. But I recall there being a lot of coverage for Eichel and McDavid last year. 18 Year olds/draft eligible players playing in this tournament is somewhat rare.

How Colorado let O'Reilly go is beyond me but so glad for it being a Sabres fan. I don't think there are any 'complete player' types who are better than ROR.

No way is he left off Canada's World Cup team.
