He was the best Goalie in the AHL 2 years ago and he is entering his prime in goalie years.

Seems fine to me. An overpayment, but the term is great.

Why don't people understand that if he was getting an extra $500,000 it wouldn't make any difference in the big scheme of things till their prized goalie prospect Demko is ready.

People are acting like they overpaid for a goalie who should be taking them to the cup finals.

Give me a break

Solid deal. Markstrom played well in front of a terrible team last year. The deal should expire around the same time that Demko is ready to step in as the starter.
Now as long as we don't trade away these guys the Canucks should be set in net for quite a while!

We essentially bought his prime ufa years without having to make it a lengthy contract. I still hold that those who see this as an egregious overpayment simply didn't watch him last year.

Seems like a lot of faith to be putting into Demko. Goalies are extremely unpredictable. Markstrom is a perfect example. A few years ago he was considered the best goalie prospect in the NHL, higher regarded than Demko
Well if Demko fails then we still have Markstrom who IMO is developing into a solid #1 goalie in the league.

Demko is far more mature at the same age than Markstrom was and is in a better development program to start his career.

Or the people who only see the numbers at the WHC despite the experts saying he was one of Sweden's few bright spots.

Can't help that he had a patchwork defense in front of him last year at both the NHL and international level.

Markstrom is at least as good as Talbot and certainly better than Reimer. He doesn't have the games played yet but that doesn't matter to those who have watched him night in and night out.

His last two years have been very strong and he should be a good starter next year.

Those criticizing the deal have the same mentality as those saying Cory Schneider wasn't worth his big contract because he was "unproven" too. Watch him play.

Do you have anything to prove these claims

And the last 2 years? He was ok this past year as #2 but was miserable the year before and other times he played in NHL

Those praising deal and propping up Markstrom have the same mentality that Oiler fans had when they acquired Scrivens

You have got to be kidding me. Those who actually did watch him knew what he was even if unproven.
Watching Markström isn't even close to being the same thing.
Did Schneider get waived and passed in the past too?
