Left coast
After Gasol they brought in that one guy who was pretty good on the Suns I believe and then he came here and wasn't the same player. Hard to replace a Gasol who was everything you ever wanted in a C. Can shoot the 3, playmaking ability and very good defender. Poetl might be 2 of those 3 things but he can't shoot the 3.
Hmm couldn’t find the C you mentioned.

I really don't follow more then hockey, but the Raptors are not a good team are they?

Like really low down?
Toronto fans and media are tough. Me included. I watched the last 8 games which were all pretty close. But I think they seem to beat teams below them but have a hard time with teams ahead. Sounds to me alot of changes in the summer.

This was a "we gave you a legit centre, now go win" moment
I'm a bit more patient than most, but you'd have to think they'll blow it up next season if they see no improvement.
I may be wrong and this regime made the cardinal mistake of falling in love with their own players. I hope not, Fred specifically needs to go.
Three free agents in this upcoming off season. Fred being one of them. This was the year to move them. The front office blew it badly

Isn’t this draft suppose to be really, really, really good? Why are we trying to make a f***ing play-in .
Why have a shot at Wemby or Henderson when you can get slapped in round 1 best-case scenario?

I have no problems not dealing OG, he’s still 25, one of the best D+3 guys in the league and he still has a year left on his deal. What blows my mind is not trading VV who will want the max and get the max. We got Poeltl who’s going to get 20-25 mil a year. Trent 20-25 mil a year, in a year OG 20-25 mil a year like how far are we willing to go in the tax to keep this mediocre group together? Didn’t Masai criticize the play in a year ago?

You’re looking at $70-$80 million in salaries to keep our free agents this off season. f***ing big time tax team that will get smacked in the first round year after year

Isn't there some strange rules about signing your own and then trading them, kind of like the 8 year NHL deal for a trade, but more frequently used in the NBA ... or maybe I'm thinking NFL with their statuses?

T.O.
I'm as confused as anyone at the moment.

Even if we somehow go on a tear the rest of the season and make the playoffs, we're not contenders by any stretch of the imagination.

Why are we weakening our draft position, especially with 2 pending UFAs?

Yeah Masai honestly sounds dumb in that presser. I get he won a title but come on… a young team? Fred is 28-29, Siakam is 28, Poeltl is almost 30 I think… this team isn’t young

Outside of Barnes, OG and Precious. No not really
I mean.. even OG. He’s in his 6th season. Obviously he’s not old, we have 1-2 “old” guys, but I don’t consider OG to be a young guy anymore. Same with Trent, he’s in his 5th season. They are in the start of their prime years.

-Under 6ft
- Shot-chucking PG with terrible shooting splits
- Walking mismatch defensively (look at that game winner Kyrie hit on FVV, he might as well not even contest because of how short he is)
- Rumors of teammate beef
- Thinks he's better than he is
- 0 athleticism

People forget he was ruining the 2019 Raptors run up until he got hot against the Bucks. Calling him a poor man's Lowry is an insult to Lowry. FVV at most should be a floor-spacing 4th or 5th option in a starting 5 or 6th man off the bench. He's not someone you want to be one of your primary scorers because he doesn't possess the skills for that. This dude was a 4-year player at Wichita State and was undrafted...and the Raps thought he should be one of the faces of their team...you can't make this up.

If you could read what I was responding to, you wouldn't be confused.
Oh I'm not confused and I read what you said. You said don't underestimate Raps fans to defend mediocrity in your post before that and then pull out all this ELO crap and try and discredit Masai and his work and doing what no other GM could do here. Of course all these other franchises will have higher ELO when they literally have 3-4 players who would be #1 players on any other team. Masai built a team with undrafted players and late round 1sts or 2nd round picks and brought us a championship. Other teams have it easier where players will sign there, we don't have that luxury and you'll still sit here and complain when Masai has shown nothing but loyalty to this franchise when he could've easily left to the Knicks ad had a much easier job to do there.

OG 25, Barnes 21, Achiuwa 23. Siakam will be 29 in like 2 months but Poeltl is only 27. Siakam value will only go up from here if we plan to move him sometime in the future. We literally just need some guards who can create their own offence from time to time because we got some very good defensive players with the offensive side still developing.

Why would we be bothered about Dubas' comments? He said he's not overpaying for rentals.

I was pretty bothered by Bergevin throwing turd picks at turd players and never acquiring a piece that could take advantage of prime years of Price, Pacioretty, Gallagher, etc. etc.

This Raptors deadline feels like the year Bob Gainey refused to trade Souray and they missed the play-offs anyway and he walked.

Do we really have a young team?

You know what I like more than patience? Assets for a dwindling injury prone player that was sot after and on an expiring contract. And another guy on an expiring deal. Instead we keep them and add trading a high pick for a chance at one round of playoff revenue. This really just set our team back a lot. You can be patient with OG I get that. But they out played themselves on the other two. Now all we need is Poetl to leave in the off season to make this all even worse. Now they’ll re up Fred on a max deal that won’t be worth the contract from day one. There really is no good outcome from this.

You can go above the salary cap for players with 3 years of bird rights, helps teams keep players they can't fit under the salary cap.

As for no trades, disappointed but not surprised. Since FVV and Trent have player options, we can still negotiate sign and trades like what was done with Lowry. There is an argument that the players returns if moved would be larger with fresh signed contracts in place. Also potentially allowing trades for strictly draft capital since its the off season and teams have flexibility.

Not the deadline most hoped for but the grade should be reserved until the draft and free agency actually opens. Definitely a gamble.

There's always sign and trades in the off season. Probably get the same thing doing that then we would trading them now and we get to make a playoff push this year.

I call BS on that big time. Somehow more cap strapped teams with far fewer picks are able to make way more deals that make improvements than we do.

This management team has become over enamored with their core that is not good enough to win a playoff round.

Barring a big trade(I expect O.G will be moved) we could essentially be bringing back the exact same mediocre team plus the 1st round pick but for way more money.

A truly baffling decision today.

Management dropped the ball, what an egg on that deadline haha. Brutal. That was like Dave Nonis level in hockey terms.
