They won't even have picks to trade for really good players
VV and Trent would have given them that and getting a higher draft pick.

You have to think the end of the Masai era is coming in Toronto. Unless ownership is pushing for this. This is a team that was in a great position to move some good players for solid assets and instead we burnt a poorly protected pick and added to a bad team.

Definitely a head scratching deadline for the team. Hoping there is some hail mary coming for OG but it seems like Masai is really attached to this group.

Are fans ever more annoying than at trade deadline time?
I’m fairness the writing is on the wall with this team and they are choosing to go the opposite direction for some unknown reason. I think fans are allowed to be pissed off right now. Unless so last minute big trade comes rolling in now this was an awful deadline that should cost people their jobs.

Acquiring Poeltl means one of FVV or GT is walking for nothing. They can't afford to re-sign all 3. It'll likely be FVV, since he's looking for a big payday and can go straight to Orlando, who don't need to do a sign and trade.

So the trade breaks down to, most likely:

FVV + Birch + lightly protected 1st + two 2nds for Jakob Poetl.

That's terrible.

The Raptors and the Suns are also the only teams to trade a 1st so far. The Suns got Durant and are all-in. We got Poeltl and are?

Adding FVV to the trade is a disingenuous way of looking at it, the trade is what it is in a vacuum, no need to include or exclude pieces. That being said, I agree that simply letting FVV or GTJ walk for nothing would be a colossal waste of assets. Hoping that a sign and trade is on the table in the summer.

Right now looks like a disaster. I will reserve judgment till the off-season, but if any free agent walks for nothing than Masai and Bobby can get outta here

Acquiring Poeltl means you can't bring back one of FVV or GT, so I think it's important to factor that in when analyzing the trade.

The only explanation I can think of is that MLSE really wants the revenue from a play-in game, and potentially a 1st round matchup, which is pretty sad.

Unless news comes out about a last second OG trade trickling in, this deadline looks to have been a failure. With what was being thrown around, I'm shocked that we couldn't take advantage on any of FVV, OG or GTJ. Makes zero sense and the team is stuck in purgatory in its current iteration.

I would be surprised if we do anything major at the deadline, just isn’t Masai’s MO. If it were to happen, it would probably be FVV imo. Not really including Trent Jr as a core guy, i think he could potentially moved as well.

Siakam is a no.
OG, feels like its wishful thinking from other teams and would take a massive overpay. If he does want to be traded, probably happens over the summer.
Called it yesterday, can’t say i’m surprised personally.

Back to back very underwhelming trade deadlines for Masai and Bobby imo.

Very, very strange.

Almost a guarantee you can't bring back Fred/GTJ/Siakam/OG/Poeltl so now we are going to lose one of them likely for nothing. All for a run at the play-in?

I don't even hate getting Jak but why wouldn't we try to capitalize on some asset value. Weird.

This was a "we gave you a legit centre, now go win" moment
I'm a bit more patient than most, but you'd have to think they'll blow it up next season if they see no improvement.
I may be wrong and this regime made the cardinal mistake of falling in love with their own players. I hope not, Fred specifically needs to go.
