Terrible in OT tonight. No effort and gave the puck up.
Honestly I feel like he's not been a great OT player for a while now, I remember being frustrated with his OT play on several different occasions.

BUT he did pick up two points tonight, he's now just one point off of being PPG for the season.

Is being an 82 point player what I want for Pettersson? No, but he was basically a 50 point player for the past 60 games prior to this latest stretch, so 82 points is a big upgrade.

Once he's consistently back to the baseline of being a PPG player, we all know he can ramp it up from there.

Just from the eye test, he has a few more gears remaining. For example the effort he showed in OT. He can be much better than that.

This type of player will have 0 success in the playoffs. When it gets tighter, you need a difference maker.

Mikheyev, Kuzmenko, Lafferty, Hoglander combined have 16 points as of this post.

They’re all literally on pace for their worst ever statistical season. Every single one of those players above had career numbers beside Pettersson. And they simply just suck without him.

I think Pettersson has gone underappreciated as well, but this is a bit misleading. You might be able to argue that with Mikheyev and Kuzmenko, but in the year that Hoglander had those career highs, he played less than half the season with Pettersson, and he nearly had the same career high pace when playing away from Pettersson during that season as he did with him (if anything, considering the expected bump up in quality of linemates, I would argue he became somewhat less impressive when he was placed on the Pettersson line).

I don't recall Lafferty playing that much with Pettersson, but I'm fairly certain he was similarly much more productive during the first-half stretch where he played on the 4th line (Hoglander - Aman - Lafferty, where both Hoglander and Lafferty were on about 35 point, +25 paces by the all star break) than the stretch after that. He played dramatically worse in the second half (dropped to around a 10 point, -30 pace)-- not sure if the Lafferty-Pettersson games you're referring to were during this abysmal stretch, but I don't think it was a major influence on the earlier one responsible for the career high.

Them regressing terribly this season can't really be attributed to playing away from Pettersson. Their best stretches were away from him.

Yeah.

He just pretended to be injured because he hates your freedom.

Damn pesky edge with their annoying facts about his skating...
Using one playoff run where he was clearly injured to claim 'you can never win with him' is ridiculous. No matter what he does, the same people will use this thread to criticize him. It's also amusing that some people think star players have never had bad playoff runs before

My bigger concern is if this knee thing is a career long thing of if there is a surgery he can get to fix it.

I saw one play last night where he was shaking off the D in the corner and was able to actually pull away with a couple strong strides. That burst of speed has been missing for like 10 months now, its good to see he still has it in him (even though the sample size is small). I think he skated better recently so I am hoping his knee is healing and it won't be a chronic issue.

As for OT, I think the team was just running on fumes by the time it got to OT last night. They played 3 OT games in a row at the end of a relatively long road trip, even Hughes made a couple bad passes and you never see him do that. All that minutes and pressures, its bound to wear the top players down. I wouldn't be too concern about it.

I think last year Hoglander benefited from playing with Petey but it wasn't some out of the ordinary bump. Lafferty I recall him spending time with Petey but Lafferty sucks and was a drag on Petey and didn't take advantage of his opportunity.

It was out of the ordinary in the sense that he barely grew in production while given superior opportunity, minutes, and linemates, which if anything, implies he played slightly worse with him, IMO.

Pre-All Star Break: 47GP, 14G, 20P, +13 (24G, 35P, +23 Pace) 11:05 TOI (4th line: Aman, Lafferty)
Post-All Star Break: 33GP, 10G, 16P, +10 (25G, 40P, +25 Pace) 13:33 TOI (2nd line: Pettersson, Lindholm/Mikheyev)
(don't recall the exact date they were put together, but it's gotta be around there, right?)

I would much rather have the former production from the 4th line than the latter production from the 2nd line, personally.

That grouping was almost entirely for the struggling Pettersson's benefit (needing Hoglander to do all the dirty work for him/keep the play in the offensive zone while maintaining his existing production), not the other way around, IMO.

It’s a miracle
Overnight instant healing
Wonder if the rest of the league knows about this advancement
You are the only one who thinks he is healthy now...

Keep digging.

Should be fixable with proper training and time.

They let it get really bad last year if it didnt go away during the summer.
