He should give us another option in 3vs3 and PP2. I'll be interested to see who comes out, my guess is Hajek but could rotate with Smith.

Excited to see what he can do. Let him get some reps in Hartford and maybe a look towards the end of the season if he's doing well. No need to rush him into the NHL just yet. Maybe the team can give Reunanen a few reps while Jones takes on the offensive load in Hartford.

He might feel it gives him an edge over guys like Robertson and Reunanen. To have a bunch of NHL games already might give him a leg up at next year’s training camp.

Jones is going to come in and compete, as is Robertson.

Lundkvist is going to come in next year and compete, as will Schneider.

I'm not really worried about being too stacked because the runner-up is going to get a ton of ice time in the AHL, and/or the Rangers know full well that a big trade is going to cost them and they want to protect their depth.
Is Robertson coming this season as well?

Hmmmmm, I mean I guess they had to because they were getting worried he might pull the Fox/Vesey loophole but it definitely would have been more ideal for him to play another year in the NCAA. Lundkvist also probably is scratching his head.

Chris Peters saying this signing could impact Lundkvist's decision to sign
Did he imply he had inside knowledge? Or was he just riffing? If the former, that’s poor. If the latter, it’s an excusable mistake, of course.

those quotes were from before the Hockey East playoffs
once they made Frozen Four, 2 wins from the title,
it seemed reasonable he might turn pro IF they won title (they did)

Respectfully, I don't think it seemed reasonable at all after less than 2 months ago he was asked about his anticipation of playing in the NHL next year and responds with, "I want to come back (NCAA) next year... I don't think I'm ready to play pro hockey yet, I don't think my body is mature enough, I don't think I'm big enough yet for it - and I think that extra year of college next year and this year and a big summer this year will help me hopefully being able to sign after my junior year... But if that doesn't happen and I'm here for 4 years so be it..."

Seems his primary reason for saying he wasn't ready for pro hockey was his physical size (maturity).... That didn't change in less than 2 months time... Winning the NCAA championship really doesn't have on any bearing on the reason he's saying he doesn't feel he's ready to make the jump...

Hopefully Brooks can get the inside scoop and find out exactly what the player and organization were thinking with the timing of this move...

i find it unbelievable that ppl can go through life that miserable. why even watch the games or pay attention to results if the only thing that matters is the 16th win in the playoffs.

It's not the "only thing that matters," but I find it pretty absurd to criticize any approach that says winning the Stanley Cup is the most important thing and therefore the objective that needs to be prioritized over anything else.

i believe he meant it, when he spoke in Feb,
but neither what he said then, nor what he decided today, has more importance than the other
and in between, things DID happen, things did change

His team plowed through the Hockey East tournament and the NCAA tournament,
with Jones a leading player in every game
Throughout the Gordie Clark era, the mantra has been that a player should dominate at present level before promoting them.
Jones earned this

The aspect of being "physically ready",
well if he was a CHL Junior player, whether he felt ready or not, he would be being signed now or NYR would lose his rights.
The next 1 or 2 years, which he might have spent in Amherst, he will spend mostly (most likely) in Hartford getting acclimated to playing against pro men

I will be surprised if there is an explanation of anything other than this fairly straightforward narrative

why. he's still under contract and Jones plays LD. Lundkvist plays RD.

Is Robertson coming this season as well?

Robertson can play 6 games without it impacting his ELC slide this season ...

Could be AHL bound. But I would not rule out him getting at least practice time with the club.

WHL season goes til May 12, Edmonton last regulars season game is May 8
WHL Network
I do not know their plans for playoffs

May 8 is scheduled to be NYR's final regular season game.

so maybe unlikely Robertson joins NYR this season ...

How long does he need to quarantine before joining the team? I wasn’t aware there was even a mandatory quarantine if he’s already in the US? Will he actually play this season?

why is that a loophole? (i ask every time)
Junior players, who don't sign just 2 years post-draft, have their rights forfeited.
Guys who don't sign 50 months, or 62 months, post-draft should have less?

Not unheard of players switching sides. I'm fine with the signing, just would have perfered him stay another year in the NCAA, but if they were worried he would becoming an UFA then you had to do it.

Junior players are forced to re-enter the draft though. They don't become free agents after those 2 years.

Jones played center until 3-4 years ago. He's happy on the left side. Some players are fine on either side but Jones isn't one of them
