It depends on their age, but yes. They can re-enter the draft, get drafted, and wait 2 more years to become a UFA.
This is surprising because it seemed this was another year off, and pushing some of these guys back seems like the best idea what with the ridiculous login that’s coming.
Thank you, was just going to type this out.Junior players are forced to re-enter the draft though. They don't become free agents after those 2 years.
it’s a problem, and not where the Rangers made any mistakes. Look at our roster. Igor, Fox, Kakko, Laf, Miller, Chytil, Kravtsov. All of these guys will need big raises over the next 3 seasons. That’s not even mentioning guys like Mika, Strome, and Buch whose contracts expire in the next two years. We have too many quality young players on ELCs. One million is a lot. A lot of us would be far less upset with Kreider if he were making $5.5 million. Or Trouba if he were making $7 million. In a cap world, $1 million is a huge amount.

Much different to go back in the draft than to becoming a UFA and pick where you want to play.
This kind of makes a lot of sense. Granted I don't know the legalities, but.....obviously the kid is really good, and we didn't wanna lose him like Carolina lost FOXY. Or, am I wrong comparing the 2 scenarios?Maybe they were concerned about him going UFA and saw an opportunity to get him signed so they view burning a year as the cost of doing business
Right. And if all of those that "think they can manage" better than Gorton has, well......yeah, God bless your self induced confidence. That said, I dont see anything wrong looking at the bigger picture. He can still do that.
If hes as "not ready" as you claim, his next contract won't be anything crazy anyway.
Trouba not being able to be moved for 3 years is where they run into a pickle. Depending on Robertson I guess they could move lindgren but I don’t see it. Too much chemistry with Fox. Plus he’d be better served getting less minutes TbH. Less of a physical toll. I’m very curious to how this is going to shake out. But no way all these guys are here long term.Updated future depth chart:
Lindgren-Fox
Miller - Lundkvist
Robertson/Jones - Schneider
Trouba moved for salary relief
Reunanen, Hajek, Skinner, Rykov all run out of real estate
I can’t decide if I like Robertson or Jones better. Maybe Lindgren moves eventually?
Wow .... well he needs to play so trade Smith
and all ruined by garbage coaching staff lol. One thing where you can throw the money around without any Cap and they fail at it by getting some budget nobody coach.
I know what the kid can do. I know he’s not NHL ready. He’ll make some really nice plays offensively and be a total liability defensively. He’s not strong enough either. If he even gets to play a shift with the big club, it’ll be painfully obvious he’s not ready. I don’t mind his deciding to go pro now rather than spend another year in college. I do mind that we’re signing a contract now rather than give him a chance next year, get him in camp, get him tested with NHL players etc.
Why would Quinn do that? Putting in a fresh rookie doesnt help Make the playoffs
I mean as a hockey fan that’s the ultimate goal, is it not? Unless people enjoy losing and rooting for a terrible team?
But its the turning the mediocre team into a champion level team that’s difficult. a few bad moves, a bad contract or two, and you can make it near impossible for your team to become championship level. The next 2-3 years are going to have decisions we’ll be looking back on decades later as being really good or really bad. They're not a terrible team. They're a mediocre team on the upswing.

and that’s why there’s so much anxiety. you see the potential. you see a foundation of potential greatness and you’re terrified management is gonna f*** it up somehow. the best talent we’ve had arguably ever and you feel like they have to make it work somehow.Whatever decisions they make, this is the best pool of talent they've had in a very long while. I'm not sure I remember them ever having this nuch talent already here and on the way.
I believe they're a playoff team next season and a Cup contender the year after.
Yeah thank god the site has undergone 37 server upgrades in the past ten years so we can still be having server problems five hours after the conclusion of the lamest TDL in history.Again with these double posts.
People like to go off on Quinn and that’s fine but really there have been players who have made significant progress in his time here. All that said to me the tale of the tape for him will come next year when the divisions should go back to their old alignments. Not making the playoffs will not be acceptable in 21-22. We have Panarin an elite forward and Fox who is bordering on elite at D. Sheshterkin is not Lundqvist but he is legit. The team has shown it can cut down on dangerous shots and goals against. We have legit veteran offensive talent and some of the best young forwards in the game. Next year should be about working out the inconsistencies and if we do that there should be no problem us making a big step forward.
Brooks says the contract won't have any performance bonuses.
that’s been a saying long before ricky bobby. I felt the same way last playoffs and during the play-in. I wanted us to lose to carolina because there was a roughly zero percent chance that we’d win the Cup, and a realistic, though unlikely, 12.5% chance we’d get #1 overall. And guess what happened?
This team isn’t ready to compete for the Cup. The moves over the last two years and for the next year or so, through summer 2022, are what build our foundation to go for it all for the 5 or 6 years after that.
