England either exorcises all of its soccer demons at once now or succumbs to them once again.

Yeah I don't mind so much when it's a quarter final or semifinal, but I'd rather the final be a golden goal format rather than penalties.

Anyways this has been the best game of the tournament so far in my opinion. The quality of play from both sides and lesser number of fouls has been refreshing.

Maguire takes a yellow on Belotti to start the 2nd half of extra time. Italy in a dangerous spot for the free kick but Pickford makes the save.

Stones just misses a header off a cross in from Kane.

Chiellini making another great defensive play to foil Sterling who was sprung into the box by Grealish.

Free kick for England. Looks like Grealish was kicked in the leg by Jorghino who gets a yellow for it. Free kick goes too far and Donnarumma jumps up and grabs it.
I wouldn't mind if they added one or two extra 15 minute "halfs" for the final game.

Oh well penalties it is.

Rashford hits the post and then Sancho is saved by Donnarumma. Both England subs don't convert.

And Pickford makes the game saving save off the hand off the post and out.

But Donnarumma saves Saka and Italy have won Euro 2020.

England continues to find new ways to lose in big games.

Go up 2 minutes in, concede later.

Have Italy bottle 2 penalties (including an absolutely stupid one by Jorginho), have your goalkeeper (who traditionally sucks in penalties) actually come up with 2 heroic saves, and STILL find a way to out-bottle your opponent by missing 3 penalties.

Knew Sancho was gonna miss, but c'mon how do you put Saka as 5th penalty taker? Feel so sorry for him.
Think both Sancho and Saka were odd choices. I know that statistically young players have converted more often than older guys in big championship games but Sancho had barely touched the ball and a 19 yo as the fifth shooter feels rough.

Italy deserved to win

England was lucky to get it to penalties

I don't agree. Italy overall was better and definitely carried possession after the first 25 minutes until the end of regulation, but it was reasonably even in extra time. It's not like Italy was getting a lot of great scoring chances either. I just don't like penalties to determine the winner in the final. Would much rather it be determined by a golden goal.

Can't do it in football. There are limits to player endurance where health concerns actually come into play. Hockey is one thing but you can take breaks between shifts, and even in OT games a player usually doesn't play beyond 45-50 minutes of actual time on ice.

Rashford was so thrown off by Donnarumma that, even though he chose the right place to shoot for, just put a timid shot off the post. Sancho and Saka looked like they were put off by Rashford's miss. Pickford was the only one that kept it close.
Sancho and Saka just took bad penalties. Mid height, not labelled for the corner. Easiest type of save to make for a GK as long as he reads/guesses the direction right.

I'd rather have a replay. That'll never happen again, sadly.
