Had a comedy show in the 90s where he regularly performed in blackface to mock a Nottingham Forest player.

Germany confronted its Nazi past and regards it with shame while Brits are nostalgic for their own empire which enslaved, exploited and oppressed like half the world for centuries.

As a current german resident who's also lived in the UK, I think you're being far too generous to Germany and far too harsh to England in your sweeping generalizations of both countries. To be perfectly honest.

Regarding the penalty on Sterling and VAR, my understanding is that once the ref has called a foul inside the box that when he goes to review the play that if there is any contact made from the player committing the foul that the ref will not reverse the call. It probably shouldn't have been called in the first place but once the ref called the penalty even the minor contact on Sterling was enough to prevent the call being overturned.

I know there's scum in every fanbase, hell italy isn't much better. It's just banter. But it's funny to see people who don't even watch soccer (cough *harpoon*) whinging about it.

Forza Italia and all that.

Its tournament management. Denmark advancing to the final would be yet another joke in Euro tourneys and they probably noted that outside of England and Denmark few were watching. For sure I refused to watch this game and not contribute to its ratings because the Euro needs to change its format. So many better sides eliminated in death knockouts and Denmark just advance. They shouldn't even have advanced from group stage with 2 losses.

In a big money world where such a prize is worth obscene amounts you have to wonder whether the fix was in. It was bad for England, the tournament, if Denmark advance. Lets find a reason to award England a specious penalty kick and alter fate.

But domination is poor rationale for England should advance anyway. They advanced on a flimsily awarded penalty kick on a play so bizarre it will be talked about for decades.

What a lol series of events leading to the penalty kick. Culminated in the completely fictional call. Apparently its a bad idea anytime to allow an opponent into your box when the officials are set to job the result..

There couldn't be a series of events more telling than that England were given this match.

Don't forget the fact they had a super soft path to the semis though Ukraine, which was gifted their win against Sweden by another phantom call.

I don’t watch soccer very often but pretty excited for England

I went there a few years back for two weeks. Spent a week in London and a week in Bristol. Amazing place!

I thought the call on Sterling was weak. And it seemed to me he was going to ground too easily most of the game.

However, thats why you work the ball into the box and make dangerous runs. And England was full value for testing the Danes in this fashion.

You kind of argue against yourself, so yeah, they dominated possession, but gave up a soft goal and needed extra time and a soft call to finish off a team that they were favoured to win against

So utterly dominant

And to the bolded, is your assertion that we’re being xenophobic of Anglo-Saxons in here?
Must be nice to think these things only go one way.

Only those outside of England use the term "Anglo-Saxon" to refer to the modern inhabitants of England and the descendants of English immigrants to the rest of the world rather than to a period of history roughly between the 6th and 11th centuries AD and to some but certainly not all of the people who lived in England then. (Edited to make more sense.)

The Swedes (Nordic Vikings), the Krauts, the Frenchies and the Italianos(Romans) have all had their time and domination in what we now know as the British Isles. Technically, they're a bunch of mongrels.;)

Yeah, I was going to get into that as well (Krauts though being the Anglo Saxons themselves I guess) but not even sure why I responded :dunno:

Argentina wins the 2021 Copa America championship. Messi has now won a major tournament for his country, and fully earned it with 4 goals and 5 assists across the tournament.

Di Maria finally steps up in a major game for Argentina and that was the difference.

What a disgusting and disgraceful game that was a well. I’ve never seen such lack of sportsmanship, diving, embellishing and time wasting before in all ,y years arching soccer, especially in a final.

Both teams couldn’t stay on their feet. Argentina turtledmthe entire the game after being gifted a goal and Neymar did Neymar thing.

What a sham.

Just took a walk outside, there is a silence and calm all around, not a normal Sunday. The silence before the storm, win or lose there will be tears tonight. Good luck to England, Forza Italia!

Well a little lover 20 minutes in and England after getting the 2nd minute goal from Shaw have looked like the better team so far.

Italy carrying the play more now and Chiesa just misses outside the near post with the long strike.

Italy seems to have found their rhythm in the midfield but still not really getting the ball into England's 18 yard box. Free kick for Italy but nothing comes of it and eventually England wins back possession with a goal kick.
