Watching both of their careers I don't think he was. I think Moog was the guy who was more central to his team's success. But on a personal level, their Vezina votes:
Moog - 3, 5, 5, 5, 7, 7, 8, 8
Osgood - 2, 7, 10, 11

Individually no question it's Moog. Osgood does have the team success but is it better than Moog's? Granted he was the back up in Edmonton but not until the playoffs and even then he filled in nicely. 1984 he is on the ice the final three games. 1983 he takes them to the Cup final on his own. 1988 and 1990 two other trips to the final with the Bruins. 1988 he didn't play in as many playoff games though. Moog is at least close to being a HHOF goalie. Osgood isn't.

Moog played in the garbage 80s where there was like 3 decent goalies in the entire leagues. He sucked.

Well you can't ignore an entire decade of hockey because of this. And even so, Moog played from 1980-'98. He finished in the top 5 of Vezina voting in the 1990s alone. He certainly is right up there as the best goalies not in, and was individually a better goalie than Osgood.

Chara and Thornton hands down.

Wish it'd be Zetterberg.

I actually agree that Zetterberg should be in a cup, conn smythe and an Olympic gold.

Well you can be in denial about this if you want, but the inductees aren't going to magically become more elite just because you want them to.

If anything the HHOF is going to get even worse.

Dude Osgood was obviously better than Andy Moog, lol.
Osgood should've won the vezina in 96 not jim carey.

I hate that Carey Price is eligible.

Don't get me wrong - you won't find many bigger Price fans than me, or many who think he's more hall of fame worthy than I do. But I still consider him an active player, with an active contract. It should be 4 years after that, after actual retirement.

Right now - to me - he's injured, not retired. Shea Weber same thing.

They used to do it that way. Bossy is a 1st ballot guy for sure, but didn't get in until 1991 despite his last game in 1987. No way Bossy waits a year right? Well, he didn't, it was because he didn't officially retire until 1988 and they took it from there. That's how it used to be. But take Pronger for an example who never really retired, but got in three years after his last game. This is how they do it now. It isn't as if Pronger was ever coming back anyway. Neither is Price nor Weber.

Osgood should've won the vezina in 96 not jim carey.

Carey at least had the numbers. The 9 shutouts was a sexy number. Osgood was on a 62-win team. In reality I like Fuhr for that Vezina. 79 games and all. Hasek probably was still the best goalie in the NHL that year. Still led the NHL in save %. But the Sabres didn't make the playoffs or come close. That shouldn't be the case. Luongo was in the running in 2004 when the Panthers weren't close. 1996 was a weird year. Brodeur missed the playoffs, Joseph held out half the season, Roy had that disaster in Montreal and then the trade and Belfour was okay but not his best year. Hextall, Beezer, Puppa, etc. there were really half a dozen that could have done it I think that year. But no one stood out, not even Carey. And definitely not Osgood.

Neither Osgood nor Carey were one of the 3 best goalies of the 95-96 season.
Puppa had a 2.46 GAA on the Tampa bay lighting, it was 3.72 when he was not in net, peak Hasek played in the nhl that year, prime Brodeur had a good year, Roy, not to be harsh but at the time I felt like 9 SO was something that went into voters mind, as ridiculous as it sound

I just think if you're on LTIR you should wait until your officially retired.

For 2025 1st time eligible, Chara, Staal, Getzlaf, and D Keith based on current standards are all HoFers for me though only Chara/Keith are 1st ballot. Spezza/Subban would make the Hall of Very Very Good.

From previous eligible ones recently, definitely Price/Thornton/Zetterberg, Miller, Rinne, Kovalchuk, Marleau (eugh) should probably get in.

Just for some context. Roenick wasn't the strongest choice to get into the HHOF in 2024, but he's better than others in there, and he's better than some that aren't as well that people think should be in. Roenick is the epitome of a borderline case and I can't think of any which way that Mogilny bests him.

Scoring finishes:
Roenick - 6, 7, 11, 11, 15, 20
Mogilny - 7, 9, 15, 15

Hart finishes:
Roenick - 5, 10, 11
Mogilny - 18

All-star selections per position (Roenick C, Mogilny RW)
Roenick - 4, 4, 5, 5, 5
Mogilny - 2, 2, 7, 10, 10

Roenick - 122 points in 154 playoff games
Mogilny - 86 points in 124 playoff games

I am not saying Roenick is Mark Messier in the postseason, but he was definitely a warrior at times. 4 playoff OT goals. He could have a flair for the dramatic at times. That being said, he didn't win the Cup but he did have two better playoff runs than Mogilny's best. The USA won the World Cup when he wasn't on the team but Roenick played well at pretty much every time he wore the USA jersey. At the top level Mogilny played in the 1996 World Cup and that was it. Period. No Olympics, nothing. Call it politics or whatever, but you can't tell me they didn't pick Mogilny because he was a guy who jumped ship on them. They picked Larionov among others. Mogilny just never wanted to play.

So yeah, I was okay with Roenick on the outside but he's in now and he had a better career in every which way than Mogilny. He also could hit hard as well. Never shied away from that. Also strung together 4 seasons of elite hockey in a row. Mogilny did not.

Mogilny won gold at the world juniors in 87 and the world championship the same year, and he won gold at the 88 Olympics in calgary.

How do we know that's even a factor? How do we know that playing with Fleury makes you more likely to want to enshrine him? Maybe the better you know him, the less you want to enshrine him.

Hm, yeah, interesting. I never got the impression that Fleury and Iginla were very tight (they only played together 2.5 seasons), but I could be wrong.

Fleury's problem (well, one of several) is that he burned a lot of bridges in his book. I picked it up once at flipped through it and he was dissing people left and right, some of them Hall of Famers, and that's not going to sit well.

Anyone know if he said anything about Iggy in his book?
