Value of: Trouba

I'm a Detroit fan so I don't have a lot invested in this deal, just makes sense to me...

But, with Miller off the books and if they deal Callahan's contract then I think they can fit Trouba in pretty easily and resign Point with room left to round out the rest of the roster.

Does Tampa have to add to Miller to get Trouba?

Definitely not easily.

They currently have ~8.5M in cap space for next season.
Minus JT Miller = +5.25M
Minus Callahan = +5.8M
Plus Trouba = -8M (?)
Plus Point = -9M (?)
------
Leaves them with ~2.5M to fill 4 roster spots. They would still have to make another significant trade, like getting rid of Johnson, Killorn, or Gourde -- and then fill the remaining roster spots with near minimum salary players.

And yet you said Branstrom +1st was a deal done by a joke GM. How is that wildly different than what you thing Trouba gets back?

And I myself said Trouba would get a late 1st(20-30)+ an A asset. I scoffed when people want 3 A assets like 11OA + Myers + Farabee

It was a second fyi

An absolute boatload.... if he came with a reasonable contract.
Sounds like that will not be happening so it is drastically less.
You're right though; it is very difficult to figure out his value. What do you trade for a one year rental of this caliber, with a chance to sign him to an extension(although I believe he is definitely going to free agency)?
I wouldn't be surprised if Trouba is traded to a team that feels that they have a good chance of signing him long-term, but might not have a deal in place before a trade. In that case we would likely see a trade with conditions, like a future 2nd that converts to a 1st if Trouba re-signs (similar to Karlsson and Kane deals).

Another consideration is how motivated Trouba is to move to a US-based team next season and get a long-term contract hammered out after signing for below-market value deals for the past 3 seasons in Winnipeg. Previously, when Trouba asked for a trade (reportedly due to unhappiness with playing time / role) his agent indicated that he knew that there was mutual interest in a trade to other teams, and that he and Trouba would be happy to facilitate the trade to get to another team. If Trouba sees the prospect of spending another season in Winnipeg (Canada) and on another one-year arbitration contract he and his agent might be motivated to work out a long term deal with one of the US-based teams (e.g. NYR, Flyers, Isles, Panthers, Wings, Ducks) to facilitate a trade this off-season.

Ya. That makes sense. Especially the conditional picks part.
The problem appears to be troubas demands. I don't think there will be a team that is willing to trade big pieces and overpay him on a contract.
I think he simply plays out the year and signs with a team that is willing to pay him way too much money. Probably Florida or Detroit.

If Trouba comes with an extension, then as a Flyer fan I would give up the 11OA pick, Gudas, and Ratcliffe. If Jets fans don't want Ratcliffe, they can always flip him to another team for a center prospect.

Is Gourde a centre or a winger. I know he’s listed as a centre, but that isn’t always the case with what he actually plays. If he is a centre he may be appealing to the Jets

Ok, maybe not easily, but I don't think people give GMs enough credit around here. There's also the tax situation in FL which leads to lower contracts (8 mil in Tampa is maybe 9 mil in NYC or 10 mil in San Jose).

And why would Trouba leave Winnipeg for Montreal? By the reports it sounds like Trouba wants out of Canada period. I'd see Trouba in Toronto close to Michigan then Trouba in Montreal which for obvious reasons isn't happening.
You sure have a hard time knowing the difference between rumor and fact. Reports are facts. Rumors are what you spread as much as you can in any Trouba thread.

Trouba/Kulikov/ Perreault/Copp for Athanasiou/Rasmussen/Bowey and Detroit first pick in this draft

Simplify it. Take out everything but Trouba on the Winnipeg side and everything but AA and Detroit's 1st on their side and you've got a basis to work from possibly.

However, that would only be if Jets scouts are sure AA can play center, as from the reviews on the Wings board it doesn't sound like he can. If not, another player/prospect would need to be swapped in. I don't know much about Rasmussen though.

So sounds like he may be out the door

What are they Jets looking for in return ? Can they take salary back ?

Need a 1st , rd , plus back ? Wondering the cost
I would like to see if the jets could package trouba, vesa, perreault and a plus if needed to try and get the 1st or 2nd overall

We can't trade away a top 10 pick. Too valuable in a rebuild.

Understandable, but you have to pay to play. You're probably better off going after a lower quality defenseman then.

I agree, Trouba is valuable. I'd be willing to give up something like AA, 2nd, and one of our top D prospects if he extended but looks like there are teams that would beat that.

Sanheim even outproduced Trouba at ES this year. The edge in points is Trouba on the PP.
Over the past 3 seasons Trouba been a top 10 D-man offensively at 5v5. The only question was what’s he’d do on the PP, and this year when he finally got #1 PP time he was outstanding there as well. The only other D-men in the NHL who bring this level of offence and are as good defensively are Hedman and Josi.

Sanheim is a promising D-man but I don’t see him reaching Trouba’s level either offensively or defensively. His 5v5 numbers this year were riding high sh% and will probably end up being one of his best NHL seasons for 5v5 production

Get him on the PP like Trouba was this year, and i'll easily take that bet.

Yeah, at this point it's hard to say. An offer like yours might work. It would all come down to the actual names and picks involved and what the other offers are.

Sanheim just had a better ES scoring year than Trouba all while being 6th on the Flyers in ES icetime from Oct-Dec 16th when Hak got fired.

Right now, the big question is how will AV use him. You capping a Dman after his 1st full year in the NHL is just silly. Flyers fans acknowledge that Sanheim won't produce big PP points unless Ghost was traded and he got moved to unit 1. And Jets fans should know what that can do since Trouba went from 3 PP points on unit #2...to 18 PP points on unit 1.

You are flat out under rating Sanheim and his upside. FWIW, there are lots of Flyers fans that would trade Provy before Sanheim.

And again, Sanheim was just 20th in ES points for Dmen in his 1st full season....and more than Trouba has ever had in his career.
