Value of: Trouba

I’m curious......in a general thread regarding Trouba why is so much of the conversation focused on the Flyers who if we believe the rumours isn’t one of the forerunners that Trouba would resign with......IMO they’re more of a secondary possible location. IMO teams that are more likely desirable by Trouba are Panthers or Rangers. IMO Flyers fall into the secondary group of possible locations Trouba might end up in like Bolts or Wings. Albeit all five teams likely are desirable to various degrees to Trouba for different reasons and all five have been linked to rumours in the past to Trouba.

Where are the Rangers & Panthers offers? Bolts offers?

Seen loads of Wings offers already in the other thread.

I think the Flyers are the best fit for Trouba. The Rangers and Wings should be holding onto assets through their rebuild, not trading them away. The Panthers have a 1 RHD in Ekblad and are more likely to be focused on high profile free agents (Panarin, Bob...). The Bolts on the other hand, have little cap space. They have Point to resign and then a handful of players who would need to be traded away to give Trouba the 8+ million that he will get.

Certainly that’s one opinion.....not sure all would agree......most importantly Trouba. I say Trouba bc the Jets will trade him to the team who offers them the best (value/fit) return (assumption outside the Central).....the Jets will get such an offer from a team Trouba is willing to extend with. So if Trouba says no chance to signing with the Flyers then the Flyers offer will reflect that and not beat out other offers where he will extend. Bolts, Wings, Panthers , Rangers, Avs, Leafs and Flyers all have been linked to Trouba in the last six+ months.........who needs Trouba the most vs where Trouba will extend may not be the same. Just saying

Fair point. I guess it really all does come down to where Trouba will resign.

Older not as good. But if he makes you happy, great.

Older has no bearing on better. Chara is older than just about every D man in the league, and hes still better than most of them. Age only plays a factor in value, not necessarily performance.

As for not as good? happy to agree to disagree here.

My big issue is that Trouba is going to want to be paid as a 50 point Dman(rightfully so) and be on the #1PP. In Philly, that is not going to happen so then he reverts back to a 35 point Dman and he likely becomes unhappy. And I think he knows he won't be on the #1PP so will actually rule out the Flyers.

It's a good fit for Vancouver, I just don't know if they should outbid the other teams for him.

A possible idea:

To VAN:
Trouba
Kulikov (4.3m) - capdump

To WPG:
Tanev (4.45m, 1 year),
Juolevi
2020 2nd

A possible idea, but not a good one. You won't get Trouba for less than we would get for him as a pure 20 game rental. Start with something more valuable.

9th + Henrique + Larsson/Guhle/Mahura work as a base?
I was high on Larsson back when he was drafted hows he been doing? Don't know squat on Mahura other than he was roughly a top 5 prospect for the organization at the beginning of the year, so dont really have a qualified opinion on either.... how are they looking and what's the floor/ceiling for them?

Not really interested in Henrique would rather take additional picks. He's an average top 6 C but don't think he's a big enough upgrade over Little.

See all the Jets fans jumping at those offers. Shows you how much of an overpayment they are. They won't get 2 A assets and a B...they will get 1 A...and 2 B's.

Highly likely you are right. Who would you consider B assets on the Flyers?

Won't be enough for Jets fans but FLA fans are not willing to offer up Trocheck as we have no replacement.
Also wouldn't happen if both Bob and Breadman sign in FLA.

Don't think NYR and FLA have the RD Jets fans want in return as most seem to want a NHL player more than a mid first as the main piece.

I think WPG doesn't have much leverage here.
Would you rather they trade him for some reasonable assets or
have a Panarin like situation where he walks when he can?

Right now I would argue that the Jets have more leverage then they ever will in regards to Trouba. He is an RFA, they can sign him for 1 year or multiple years. They can go to arbitration or they can trade him as an RFA or as a player signed for up to 8 years (more of a sign and trade). The Jets won't have these options next off season, so this year the Jets arguably have a lot of leverage.

Highly likely you are right. Who would you consider B assets on the Flyers?
A assets would be Farabee, Frost and Myers from our prospects list and of course #11. The next tier would be guys like Ratcliffe, Allison, O'Brien, Rubstov, Vorobyev, Laczynski, etc... if we are talking F. On D, it would be Hagg, Morin, Ginning, Hogberg, Zamula, etc... For goalies, they have Ersson, Sandstrom, Ustimenko but goalies and values vary and 2 of those guys just have fantastic years so are likely valued high. Ersson could be viewed as an A asset by mgt, who knows.

Fwiw, Fletch when talking about the prospects, thru Ratcliffe into that A tier even though I personally think he is below.

If Detroit loads both Mike Green and Filip Hronek for Trouba, then the spot falls on him.

Red ings quite obviously is the leading destination for Trouba.

They have

- American City to play for
- Assets to give Jets prefer (Green, Hronek, Athanasiou, draft picks)
- No cap problems like contenders
- Reasonable long-term contract to give (~7.3M ballpark)
- His home State to play in front of family like Ryan Suter liked
- 1st PP spot, which he never did got at Winnipeg behind Big Buff
- A Roster core which will fit on his age and prime (Larkin, AA, Mantha, Bertuzzi)

Any other team won't check those all boxes.

In Florida he would be behind Yandle and Ekblad, in Tampa, no chance to fit on cap etc. etc.

It all depends on the assets that GM's are willing to shell out. Most of the teams in play can check multiple boxes off (5 or more). The contract will be closer to 8.5M, next to 0 chance he signs at 7.3M.

Jets have two needs only, 2C and top 4 RHD (assuming Trouba is traded & Myers is booted out the door). People shouldn’t focus too much on just RHD as far as a return for Trouba. I mean in a perfect world we get Trouba clone back but that won’t happen. So if I had a choice of 2C or top 4 RHD roster player/prospect, I would ideally like top 4 RHD roster player/prospect. But if the only offers are bottom pairing RHD then by all means offer 2C roster player/prospect. So it’s not just about fit, it’s also about value.

I actually agree.

I agree that for the Jets it should be more about value than positional needs. Given their cap situation and number of free agents, they won't be reluctant to move pieces around. They have a lot of young talent that they can move to fill important needs. So, for example, if they can get a terrific young scoring winger for Trouba, they would be in the position to move a high value young player like Connor or perhaps Roslovic to fill a gap on D or at C. They could also consider moving out Trouba for a purely picks/prospects haul and use Trouba's cap space to sign a C in free agency.

I expect the Jets will make some major moves this off-season to restructure their roster for the short and long term and a Trouba trade will be just the first move in that process.

Weegar does have #4D potential in him, lots of people will look at his 7th round draft selection and age (25) but if you check his stats, he's progressed every year from AHL to his 2nd year in the NHL. He was our 2nd best defenseman in our own end behind Ekblad this year.
Hits a lot, blocks shots, can fight and very solid at 200lbs. He obviously won't replace Trouba's offense but I believe he has 25-30pts in him if given some decent PP time. His Q and AHL numbers shown he excels as a PPQB. He's just blocked here with Yandle and Ekblad.

Had a bump in minutes from his first year (14:34) to (16:58) this year. No reason Tallon/Q don't give this guy more PK/PP time and uptick on 2nd pairing if we can't afford a veteran D. Probably sees closer to 20 mins a game this year.
He'd be super cheap at $1.1 to 1.4 million on a 1-2 yr deal.

He may not be a Myers type prospect but Weegar is producing decent offense and looking for a top 4 role NOW.

Long term expect 7.5-8.5 million.

The only negative for the Wings, is that they're a bottom 5 team now and won't be a playoff team for few years.......A good chunk of Trouba's prime. So if Trouba can accept that negative then he could end up as a Wing this summer or a year from now.

Stop that stone-aged thinking.
