To the posters saying that jets fans are over valuing trouba....

As a jets fan myself...

If trouba were on another team and willing to come here and extend long term, the only assets that we have that would be off the table in a trade for that to happen would be scheif, Morrisey, and *maybe* Laine. Any other asset (Conner, Ehlers, even a high first round pick if we had one) would be in play in some sort of combo.

I'd even think of doing high first, veselainen (our top f prospect) AND niku ( d pour toprospect) to have trouba here long term.

I know I don't speak for all jets fans, but it might give you guys some insight into why we can't understand why Detroit fans wound't give up #6 and velano or Philly fans not wanting to give up #11 and frost/sanheim

If you have to give up a couple of prime pieces (especially futures) to get a top pairing RHD for 7 years with size, a mean streak, who can play the pp and pk and put up 40-50 pts a year, you do it.

Of course all this depends on a contract being in place prior to a trade

Yes, I think this is a more realistic trade return. Given Trouba's likely salary, teams aren't going to want to get ****ed twice, once by the Jets and again by Trouba's agent. Just once will do.

Perhaps make it a B+ prospect, whatever that means. Not Morgan Frost level but a guy with serious upside. The Jets could really use Gudas if both Myers and Trouba are gone. And a likely mid-first round pick is good value.
Gudas is a UFA as soon as Trouba is. What's the advantage for the Jets?

Keeping Trouba as an own rental is one of the worst takes ive ever seen.
Not when you have a contending team. Also, it would free up a bunch of cap space for the Jets for 2020 when there's a bumper crop of UFA defensemen.

Cap space to sign other players.
Gaining additional assets they wont get when Trouba walks for free.

Conversely, I suppose you could use him as an own rental a la Panarin and Bob and hope it works out.

Trouba is a rental.

1 year ago, Karlsson was traded with a year left for a bottom pairing defenseman, a youngish 3rd line center, 2 B prospects, a 1st and a 2nd.

Why would any GM pay more for Trouba than what the best defenseman in the league went for just 1 year earlier? Trouba isn't even in Karlsson's league, and Jets fans expect more. A 1st++, is a much more realistic return on what to expect, looking at trade history.

Because that team will likely want Trouba to extend there, the most likely candidates to move their 1st and more would be: Tampa, Florida, or Detroit. Outside shots to the Rangers, Boston, Philly, LA.

Ottawa wasn’t a contender when they traded Karlsson. Different optics. Jets really have no reason to trade him unless the trade makes them a better team now. Their window is open, trading him now will close it going into next year. And with their other UFA d man in Meyers, they really can’t afford to move him unless it is a major reshuffle and MGT wants to take a few steps back.

Unless the jets are out of it going into February, they will just keep him. And he will likely not be traded as a sign and trade.

(Why would he want the team he is going to, to give up large assets)? That concept doesn’t. Are any sense. Can they sign him after the trade, sure, but..... why give up the extra assets,

I completely agree. He'll either stay with the team or be traded as a rental. A sign and trade is the least likely chance.

Gudas is a UFA as soon as Trouba is. What's the advantage for the Jets?

They can get a return for Trouba now if they feel compelled to shake up the room now.

Or maybe they really like a particular prospect on offer.

Or maybe they really need the $$ because of the big extensions.

Another consideration is that Gudas can be resigned at a rate appropriate for a second pair D playing behind Buff. Ultimately that's the kind of role the Jets will need covered if both Myers and Trouba go. They don't need Trouba, but they need some second pair RD. The Jets have some great D prospects - Samberg, Niku, Stanley. Last I checked they are all LD.

#5 - Gudas hasn't been trying to get out of town for the last so many years.

Gudas may be a possible piece the Jets would take. It would all depend on what's added to him to make it enticing to the Jets for an extended Trouba.

But why is the buying team for Trouba who is on HIS list to re-sign magically paying this extra extension value?
It's not the buying GM's fault Trouba wants to leave WPG. Chevy will only have a small amount of teams to deal with if an extension is in place. At a lower rental price, you'd assume his list would be bigger.

McDonagh situation is similar no?
I'd assume his list was only 4-6 teams long and then how many GM's are going to throw in grade A assets to outbid one another? Some are offering up 6th++ to 13th++ in here or other Trouba threads and that's a fair bit more than what McDonagh returned who was what, 27 iirc when he was traded and had comparable value.

It's like selling a 2012 Ferrari with a one year lease left on it but you want brand new value back just because you have 4-5 buyers?
So brand new = rookie? Or?

How is McDonagh a comparable? He was traded on February 26th (at which time, he was 28, not 27) we're talking about 4x more games, a better player, playing a more valuable position (rhd vs lhd) for longer minutes, in more situations who is 3 years younger.

They both have brown hair, though.

Edit, I forgot to mention that Trouba scored 50 this season and his "comparable" never has.

No interest in Vesey. He's a winger and is going UFA. He'd need to be replaced by a better prospect. Maybe someone like Miller.

So Jets fans are basically saying you are stacked at wing right ?

Rangers are rebuilding so you won’t get atip prospect from them maybe elsewhere

Trouba is RFA so not sure on his actual value although if he goes elsewhere I’d expect a long extension as part of the deal

Probably not gonna happen but what about a 3 team

Kreider to Buffalo w extension
Trouba to NYR w extension
Sabres 1st , DeAngelo, Thompson to Jets

I’m sure later picks involved somewhere to balance it out

Longer minutes? Go look at Mcdonagh's forst couple years, he was averaging 22-24mins a game and averaged 30-40pts most of the time.

Didnt say it was exact same value but he would be one of the closest comparables. I dont have time to argue a 6-7pt difference.

And that goes to my point of the offers above being fair value for the gap between Mcdonagh and Trouba.

The same reason the NYR did just that to get the rights to Adam Fox. Everyone knew Fox was heading to NYC in a year. The Rangers ponied up to get him a year earlier.

Wouldn’t surprise to see a trade and sign with Trouba.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet but while Niku shoots left he prefers playing on the right side and refers to himself as a RD. Many Jets fans see him as a future top 4 RD. He has offense to burn he just doesn't have the defensive chops at this point in his career. Next season and maybe longer he will need to be sheltered on the bottom pairing IMO. Saying that a short term solution to the right side makes sense, but not as the whole return for Trouba.

The last time I heard a guy so hyped up we wound up with Wade Redden. I don't see a lot of Winnipeg games. Is he that good?

Trouba to NYR
1st rd pick..(20th overall) K Miller , Zib or The other young Swede Center to Jets
Maybe Zibanejad straight up OR 1st rd pick, (20th overall), K Miller and Lias Andersson/Chytl. Very doubtful Ranges would trade their breakout #1 C though.

Zibanejad is worth a lot more than Trouba with 1 year before ufa. Trouba is pretty much a rental at this point and zibanejad has 3 years left on a great contract.

Ya no chance on zibanejad+

What about a deal around WPG's first and Miller?

I might do the 20OA and Andersson or Buch.
NYR in no way are trading Zib, Chytil or Miller.
Zib is a #1C, he isn't going 1 for 1 for Trouba,
that is just f***ery.
