Carpenter isn't getting cut. He's a plug but he's Gallant's guy and he kills penalties. Reaves is also safe for the same reasons, even if he doesnt play everyday.

The decision will come down to Hunt/Jimmy and as long Hobey Vesey doesnt look completely shot, it will be him because of his PK ability and size. Rydahl is an easy first call-up due to his apparent willingness to spend time in the AHL if necessary.

Reaves, Carpenter, Hunt and Vesey

NYR brass targeted Blais. They drafted guys that while more skilled, play a similarly styled heavier game

They extend him long before they trade him or let him walk as a UFA
This season will tell. IF Blais can stay healthy he’s likely going to prove a lot of posters here wrong. Saw it in the Blues run, saw flashes last year. That’s a big if, but you can hardly blame Blais for that Subban cheap shit nonsense last year.
Perceptions of Blais are heavily influenced by the fact that he was half of the Buch trade return, the only part that we can judge.

Reaves is not being cut. Listening to Gallant’s presser’s to date he has already affirmed that Ryan will be an everyday player and is an integral part of the team.

Didn't Gallant literally say that he doesn't know if Reaves is going to play every game?

He did. Both he and Reaves have acknowledged the possibility that he's not an everyday player.

Reaves was an effective sheriff last year, but now that the expectations are higher and the kids are another year experienced, it's time for the team as a whole to police the ice. Daddy isnt going to fight their battles forever.

carpenter is playing I think if for no other reason than he is a noted fo guy and he can pk. hunt or vesey will be 13 forward to start.

My guess is that Vesey gets signed to a 1 year 1 way deal at league minimum and they try to sneak him past waivers a couple of days before the season starts with the other big waiver drops of other teams.

Really great interview with Othmann, I like this kid. He is showing a lot of confidence, he speaks really well and just seems to be at ease. You can just see him blossoming. I don't think this interview would be this easy for him if he felt over his head in camp at this point.

I'd prefer Reaves not be an everyday player, especially at his age. I don't think he's the best hockey option for most games.

But I think that most of us realize there is more to a lineup than strictly icing the best players. There's a human element, and Reaves seems like he's taken on the role of Team Dad.

How many cups has he won?

I just don't like the idea of players being on the team because they're a coach's guy. But it's a reality. Wouldn't it be better if the players fighting for a spot make the team because they earned it instead of because of who they know.

Guys like Carpenter arent blocking young players from making the lineup. No one wants Othmann or Cuylle to be here if they arent going to be in the top 9. Theres also no reason to rush or force them into the lineup, especially when we have plenty of other young players already here battling for ice time.

Cuylle & Robertson specifically will benefit greatly from a couple months in Hartford imo. Like Schneider last year when he came in and solidified the D with his skillset.

Sadly that is how a lot of people get their jobs in this generation
